This baby is in mint and I was getting ready to sell it a few years back, however when I saw that no one would even give me a lousy $500 for it. I decided to keep it. It was going for $50,000 new back in the early 90's, but we all know how that goes.

It was going for $50,000 new back in the early 90's, but we all know how that goes. Live sound consoles can often be picked up for cheap compared to studio consoles. The catch is they are often beat up from years on the road but no doubt some good examples can be found. Since digital consoles have become the standard for live sound live analog consoles are almost being given away. Someone I know over here scored a D&R Octagon for $Zero a few years ago. It came from a publicly funded TV station and after being decommissioned was offered to a community radio station who accepted it without first seeing it. After the delivery driver dropped it off in a back alleyway at the rear entrance of the radio station it quickly became obvious it was far too big and 'too complicated' for the station to cope with so they decided not to take it on. However the delivery driver had already unloaded the console and driven off. A phone call was then made to a guy who they knew ran a recording studio and he was asked if he wanted a mixing console that was sitting outside in the back alley. They said you'd better come and get it now before it either rains or it gets trashed. How do I know this story? We have his old console that he replaced with the D&R! 😉 Here's an actual photo of the free D&R in his studio.

Wiz or motu users.
I have been reading more about the motu 8a. It certainly looks like a very good way to add 8 AD/DA ( sabre) i/o on 1/4 inch trs and cost effective: cheaper than any other option. Plays nice with my trs patchbay, use any sample rate, adds another headphone out.
I am currently running a tbolt system and the 8a can run tbolt.
Wiz you referenced hanging the 8a off my symphony mkii or the other way around ? This just means connecting them using adat right but then running a tbolt system at what ever sample rate I want.
Does logic recognize an aggregate interface or how does logic see the 2 interfaces as common ?
thx !

Either use a word clock cable and clock off the Apogee or you can clock through ADAT. But you'll need to clock the 2 together. Keep in mind that using two separate converters produce 8 channels of firing time on one, and 8 channels of firing time out of the other. In other words, they wont fire the same time across 16 channels so you should think about that when you mix. It does make a difference believe it or not. I dealt with that for many years. With that rig you have now, I'd recommend biting the bullet and putting another 16x16 analog card in the Symphony and being done with it both now and forever. Wish I'd done it years ago. The difference can be heard.

I hear you Herbie, still buying with canuck bucks though so the 16x16 apogee hurts ! The mkii 8x8 only accepts 8 channels over adat so if yo want 24 in total: Houston we have a problem

was just chatting with apogee cs and confirmed that the mki 16x16 plays nice with my mkii chassis, I made a joke about leaving my apollo behind and taking the black when I bought my mkii and the apogee CS person in seconds posted this : )
