I was feeling a little lazy the other day and left up the Gefell UMT70S instead of switching out to the Beyer mc930 or the old AT 4051b that I have been using for mono tracking of my Roy Noble Cedar top dreadnaught. I went through a Daking pre with just the needle ticking off 4 or 5 dB max through a Warm WA76, the Gefell in omni about two feet away and was extremely happy where the guitar sat in the mix.

How long did it take to get the Stam pre... ( I know you got yours pretty quickly before others who had pre ordered ) I am eager to see how the new product releases stick to their delivery date. If Stam can improve on waits and delays and also keep his word to me I would have nonoroblem investing into more of his products 😀😎 I ordered mine a looong time ago. And as far as I know I didn't get any preferential treatment. Didn't he post he had stock? You may be very right and I could be mistaken... I thought there were a couple ppl here on RGO who had waited a long time for their preamp... if i am wrong I will delete my posts... not trying to cause any negativity... No I am definitely correct Forgotten G waited almost two years for his preamp and you got yours in two months .... realgearonline.com/thread/6322/stam-1073mpa

It was in development for that long, I think. I ordered when there was a hard release date. Either way, check with Stam...he should be able to answer those questions better than me.

I like a 414 in fig-8, top of the mic pointed at the 12th fret so it's in the null, then a cardioid SDC angled in right next to it. Original intent was to M/S decode, but I just kept using the 414 and riding the SDC lower and lower. I suppose I just prefer the tone of the floor and ceiling to the guitars I'm recording... but it keeps working in the mix...

Always wise to consider the source, room, mic relationships, not to mention the player's response to the feedback of the environment.
General microphone characteristics aside, a mic may yield great results in one setting and fail miserably in another.

Back in the day I liked to use the U47 where the neck meets the guitar and a 414 eb down by the bridge or a C451 SDC as we didn't have any KM84's. If you double the acoustic guitar part then I would pan the doubled track opposite from the first track and it sounded huge. Cheers, Dave

Neumann U77 (circa 1968) here in a studio promo shot I took a few years ago. Same externally as a U67. Not only good an acoustic guitar but a stellar vocal mic especially for intimate female vox with the right pre.
