I know this has been discussed a bunch, but was just gonna say that I used my Upton for mono acoustic on the last demo I did and was really blown away with the results. I've just never really bothered because in the past my ldc's were kindve "squelchy" on acoustic. Don't know if that makes any sense. Loved having more bottom.

SDC can be forgiving and easy on acustic, LDC can need more effort, but if it was easy it wouldn't be any fun! Family motto

For picking and arpeggiated parts, I totally agree. Where did you place it - right out front? Any pattern preferences?
I do enjoy my MicRehab'd CV4 either backed off from the bridge out front, or OTS in that same plane. That said, my favourite is still running it MS in figure 8 and mixing in with the Gefell, both a bit inside of the 12th fret.

SDC (84) off 12th fret, LDC (87) over the R shoulder pointing down towards sound hole. Best of both worlds!!!!
Esp. if you have a Martin, and I think you do.....

Yeah, a D-28 Authentic...which I just put two nice dents in above the sound hole. Awesome. That's the way I've been stereo miking. 84 on the 12th and Upton shoulder looking down...sounds great. But for mono, I'm not sure I wouldn't go with the Upton...

my um25c [251 circuit with an odd duck tube] is absolutely sublime on acoustic guitar. It has a CT-12 capsule in it. I do love the CK12 style sound there.

I have this wonderful memory of an a Guild as old and big as I a pair of gefell um7xx and a Demeter pre sounding as big and glorious as the real thing.

Neumann U77 is my pick for a LDC acoustic mic. Solid, focussed and incredibly detailed without any glassy high end.

These days Chroma's or a Silver Bullet if it's an 84/87, but I've used VP26's and Neves, and D&R's and pretty much anything I could get my hands on. Technique is cool and not really preamp dependent.

Thanks Bill. When you say Neve's, 1073? 1084?

1073 clones. AML's. But mostly, I record Acoustics MONO. Recording SO much more mono these days. I'll use an 84/ 53 or (preferable) 86 off the 12th fret somewhere. Most of the things I do are not so open as to warrant a nice stereo acoustic. But the technique rocks if you've got some space in the production.

The clones are dead nuts?

The clones are dead nuts? Does it really matter? LOL They are regarded by many as being the closest thing to a vintage 1073. I like em. I don't worry about "how close" much. Either they work (and they do) or they don't - and they get sold. (They didn't get sold)

I'll also give a big up to the Stam 1073 with the Sowters. But as far as acoustics, I keep going back to the CAPI VP28 L's for the little extra sparkle.

( I know you got yours pretty quickly before others who had pre ordered ) I am eager to see how the new product releases stick to their delivery date. If Stam can improve on waits and delays and also keep his word to me I would have nonoroblem investing into more of his products 😀😎

And as far as I know I didn't get any preferential treatment. Didn't he post he had stock?

Have used LDC on acoustics with lots of luck in the recent past. M149 (toob mic but my fav) , U87, TLM107, but most recently just did a track with stereo Royer SF12 along with a KM84 (picked up from a decent fellow)up the middle....real nice but almost too big sounding for this particular track so may just end up using only the KM84 track. High class problem to have....

You've got to try a ribbon sometime, too, lots of fun on acoustic guitar.

I've tried the Samar stuff (great mics) on acoustic but I've never liked it better than condensers. Maybe for a really vibey track.
