I REALLY wasn't "aiming"...I was actually reacting here to some posts about someone else elsewhere. I simply didn't want to see this go down that road...I am sorry for any implication that you weren't an empathetic person...please don't take it personally. I likely shouldn't have said anything...since I was really rubbed really raw by the other situation. It was nothing more than an attempt to head off this thread going that way.
Don't make JK change my title to "resident pisser offer of people unintentionally"...cause he will...and he might not be incorrect in doing so, but the post was really meant to simply remind EVERYONE that we're little boutique shops are not Harmon or Senheisser Corporation...for better AND worse. Not intended to be personal indictment.

JK, I had seen that video you posted before. That 251 is amazing. Anyway, looks like Heartfelt has made a decision but I'll chime in here and give a nod to Shannon's work. This CV-4 he did for me honestly stacks up pretty tall with heavy hitters. And for under 2k it's the best thing going period IMO. I tracked some vocals tonight with both the U-67 and the CV-4 stacked for identical takes to compare. Obviously the 67 is better but damn, not THAT much better. I still hear a bit of harshness in the CV-4 BUT only after flipping back and forth between the two several times. And I honestly (after years of trying to figure it out) only tonight put a fine point on what the difference is between a 8k mic and a 2k. That slight bit of zing doesn't sound bad, it simply masks clarity a bit. I mean, if you wasn't soloing tracks and A/Bing, youd never know what your missing. But it's still there. To try to put a parable to it, it's like the difference between throwing up a pop filter in front of any mic and whispering into it. Then taking it away and whispering again. The veil is removed. You can hear it clearer when the filter is gone. That's what it's like and that's we hear on records. How many times I've asked myself, how in the world do they get that vocal so damn clear??, well, they simply throw up a very high end mic through a high end amplifier and hit record.
Said all that to say this, for budget minded folk like most of us are, can't do much better than sinsay's mic, I cannot lie.

I agree, Cowboy. I actually pulled out some 6khz with my Helios and the thing sounds damn near perfect. I could have Shannon pull some of that out, but I'm nervous to futz with it. What's that short story about the guy that had the beautiful woman but killed her by trying to make her prettier with some potion?

I don't know whether I'm wearing rosy colored glasses, or because Shannon's latest mod was more rolled off for my CV4, but I'm not hearing any particular harshness that isn't coming from my own voice when I sing into it. I hear a really balanced - but CLEANISH yet, warm sound. I do have a recording of my voice into a 67, I'll have to match them up. What I'd love to hear is the Miktek CV4 "SRE" (Shannon Rhoades Edition as I now call it) up against a really good U47. That would be cool. In fact, I'm wondering whether Shannon may be able to mod something like this for me in the future - being the Wiz that he is: micandmod.com/en/tube-microphones/34-microphone-m-47-premium.htmlHmmmm... "The Wiz That He Iz." Good name for something...

Halfstar I think ur is more rolled off than theirs. You said u want more lean towards traits of a 47 . There is a lol more of a bite on theirs so everyone is basically right lol I think john kenn heard yours as well before it left USA and he was quick to notice where I went towards what we spoke of in email. It becomes a real fine line between kewl and not-kewl in that area of lets see if we can balance these ball beArings on top of each other while wearing rollerblades and having to piss real bad knowing someone is already occupied the smelly public bathroom and still have a set of balls at the end of the day. U know what I mean.... Lol U looking at a total DIY u47 ?

"The Wiz That He Iz." Good name for something... Yep - I heard yours before it went out and it was definitely more rolled off than mine. But I think that's a good thing. I think he's dialing it in more and more every one he does. Put it this way - it's an entirely new capsule with a "process" he's doing that is taking away the harshness of the Chi-com capsule. Then, from that point, tuning it is just a matter of taste. What side of the spectrum do you want it on? Mine is a little brighter on top, but it's not "harsh"...I tend to take some of that top out when I record, but like I've said, I've been hesitant to have him tweak anymore because I can get it exactly where I want it right now. Why mess with success. That said, I might volunteer for guinea pig duty for the common good of the people

I wonder where mine sat on that scale of brightness. Sinsay/John, any thoughts? you both heard it before you sent it up to NYC.

All said and done, what I'm saying is, I personally am stoked with the sound - I LOVE the rolled off-ness. I got just what I wanted. I've got two CV4's - one modded and the other un-modded. I'm treating the un-modded one like the ugly sister now lol - even though it's still a killer mic. I think I'll need to send her to Nashville in the future for some cosmetic enhancement from Shannon, so she can look more like her modded sister

But, I love singing into it now, I did a Randy Newman-esk song the other day and sang into it with all I had as a guide vocal. Just great! DIY U47? Well, I'm thinking about getting something already put together and sending it to you - so you can smirk at it and say: "Ha! I can make this baby REALLY sing..." But for right now - I'll stick with my Miktek CV4 SRE thank you very much. =)

Maybe it's a rite of passage for all muso's to go through a Randy Newman stage... for whatever reason, lol. By the way, I just wanna say a quick cheers, I've been following your Miktek escapades for quite some time and it's been super, super helpful. P.S. It may be a wee bit off topic, but did you ever try the Little Blondie SDC mics by any chance? There's new cardioid versions of them out with lower self noise. They're really good - and cheap. Very detailed and really, really smooth in the top end. I'm gonna see if I can't make some clips today...

So...I was over at Shannon's today and saw the Beesneez...I have to say, that was some shoddy soldering in there...and it looks like the inside of a Sterling mic. I didn't hear it, but hmmm...
