Just looking for some comments.
My main mic (project studio) is down.
I have one track to finish vocals on for a project. I have a week off, surrounding Christmas and my due date is Feb 22. I must have CD's in hand. I have looked at rentals but every option will be a few hundred and with that, I might as well purchase and have something for my money.
Here are the options I am considering: Miktek C1 or C7 (Only the patterns differ) This would give me something different - along the lines of a U87 - from my Beesneez James which is U47-ish. A cool thing about this mic is the voltage switch, adding an additional flavor.
Miktek CV4 This is essential what I have now, in terms of style.
CharterOak E700 This FET mic is so stinking flat, I love it.
Lauten Atlantis This is want I am lusting after. I like the 3 flavors available. The neutral is what I really enjoy, the forward is more 251-ish and the gentle is like the Charter Oak.
Advanced Audio CM47 (SE?) It got a helluva review from Tape OP compared to a wunder.
If I get the CV4 or CM47, I will be looking to sell the BN James. No need for duplicates. I'm sure I will lose some value in the James if I sell it. With any of the FET's, I'd likely keep both.
Any thoughts? I am leaning towards a MikTek C1 or C7 for something different.
PS. Is there a Mic tech in Nashville who excels in service? I'd like to find an alternate service provider away from Beesneez for future issues.

My 2 cents, if you live in nashville, get the CV4 and get Shannon at mic rehab to mod it for you, every track i've heard with his last mod sounds killer.

@heartfelt are you in Nashville? Didn't know that! Anyway - check out the CV4 Mod thread if you haven't...Also, I spoke and sang a little through the CV3 the other day at Shannon's house and was really impressed. Seemed like it might have even sounded a little better than the CV4 stock...of course, this was just initial impression and I didn't have a stock one to compare it to. I think the Miktek stuff is the best value to quality going right now for mics. Shannon has also modded a C7 that and it sounded really, really great. Honestly, I've been thinking about just buying something like a Blue Bluebird or Baby Bottle and having Shannon mod it. The capsule is absolutely the biggest change in the sound...and Shannon's mod is the bomb.

I'm in Houston but understanding the culture in Nashville and that some of you are there, I knew there would be someone available. Shannon, I plan to call you Monday and chat. Thanks for the post. I checked out your Facebook page and saw some of what you work on. Impressive. What was the talk here about MR and Australia? I wasn't paying close attention (no need at the time of reading) but I seem to remember something about that. Are you still in Nashville? It looks like MikTek is a good place to start whether stock or modded. Those are all good Mics but You can't go wrong with the Miktek. Bang for the buck it's there. I was with them from day one till July of this year. Yes I am in Nashville, my personal no#i will message or hell most people on here have it 615-944-2378 if I do not answer please leave message and I will get back to you. Thank u sinsay Shan

I have been impressed with the same press. Even James Lugo loves it.

I'm not limited to those above pretty much any mic!!! Hey Shan, could you also mod the new C1's? They're like the cheaper C7's. I was going to try a stereo pair for piano. Oh bugger it, seriously, I'm gonna have to send everything to you first!

What's up with Ben? Don't know him at all for what it's worth.

What's up with Ben? Don't know him at all for what it's worth. He is somewhat reclusive, preferring to divide his time between his work and his family and does not do a whole lot on these old electron boxes with the email and whatnot from what I understand. But everyone who knows him praises him to the highest heavens for being such a good and caring man who values his customers. The only other comment made is when dealing with him, have a lot of patience. I think his missus handles most communications.

I don't know the guy at all (and never used his mics), but I think I read somewhere that his child was really, really sick and they had traveled to somewhere in the States for treatment. Maybe that has something to do with him being a little less attentive to the business. I've wondered how the child was doing - I think they had some sort of donation over at the REC forums...I would definitely put that up here if anyone knows anything about it.

You know...a lot of us know another "mic guy" who is going through a rough patch personally, and business rep is suffering in this Internet age of "customer is always right" extreme of the ability to get online an bitch. That not to minimize the reality that someone may need to find another tech for time sensitive work...but, I feel like it becomes a little short sighted when people don't get that most "boutique" companies, mic or preamp or otherwise are SMALL families of folks--easily rocked by all manner of illness.
I don't know EXACTLY what's going on with either individual...but, let's at least strive for a little empathy.
If we're talking about repair...any decent mic tech should be able to handle the work.

Nothing wrong with my stating the desire to cut ties. Others here have criticized vendors in a much more negative way. I have no plans to publicly bash anyone.
I'm the most empathetic guy you'd meet. I understand some of their circumstances but there are things that can't be justified. This is not just a "they don't answer" situation. I've endured that since becoming an owner (3yr+)and throughout that time continued to support BN publicly BECAUSE I have empathy, enjoyed and appreciated the products.
Popmann, I don't appreciate your rude remarks about me regarding something you DONT have any knowledge of. Talk about short-sighted. I walked through my present issues with reputable people in the chain of communication who also couldn't make sense of what happened.
Ward, I wish that were true. I too, once believed that.
John, they are in Ohio, presently. You are correct. She has heart issues. I can't imagine what it is like - I have two babies (my photo is my son, two years ago). Regardless of business, I sincerely wish them the best and have prayed for Phelicity. I am far from non-empathetic.

Didn't mean to imply that at all. There are definitely proper ways to handle business regardless of the situation.

The Popster has to piss at least one person off per week. Otherwise, I would be disappointed.

No, you didn't John. That last statement wasn't aimed at anyone. Sorry it came across that way.
Nah, no anger here.
