I don't have any personal experience with the RED25 or any of Whistle Rock Audios DOAs. Im sure they aren't bad though. I sort of wish Id just gotten two on my order..maybe I'll email Peterson just to tag them on while Im there. Can't hurt to hear them. These are also hands down the EASIEST build I've ever done. Super simple. VERY well laid out. PCB is labeled great. Takes no time to build them. Peterson does a great job at that I think. Making it very easy for a newby and fun and fast for the experienced. Man I very much do not like what the "Audio" clips on the EQP5 page do but it sounds like it's just way over boosted in the highs. I trust you guys more than random clips anyway I will post a clip tomorrow of a basic mix from the Mix Group I never really finished. But popping this EQ in and out is..jaw dropping. Those clips are not the best haha

No idea. Thats a new transformer I know very little about. Im not sure what more Nickel does honestly. Can't be bad though! Would be tempted to try it some day. Id probably add a set to a SumBus when I get around to that.

ragan Here is a little demo. DISCLAIMER: I did mix INTO this EQ. As is I dialed it up some and did the mix vs mixing some and then slapping it on after the fact. That said I did end up changing it after mixing more. All I am doing on this is live printing the mix and using the bypass on the EQs. I won't bother telling you when I bypass them as its pretty freaking obvious. I do have some other plugins on the master bus HOWEVER the EQs are the LAST thing in the chain. Other than a limiter doing light limiting. Hope this helps. I think its pretty staggering the difference. File is a 24b/96k file. HDX being used. Avid IO converters. drive.google.com/file/d/1K7iTpm1wkzToUbQdAq54d1rkmmFotwK7/view?usp=sharingAlso I did not record this. I don't intend to release anything. Its just a free multitrack from the mix group to mix for fun. The vocals were already very pitch corrected..

Yeah there's definitely a difference above and beyond just the (dramatic) EQ difference. Seems to enlarge the overall image somewhat. Think I'm gonna have to do it.

So I'm gonna build a pair. Blackdawg jeromemason indiehouse Is consensus that I MUST get something more cool and exotic than the RED25 they sell with the kit? I'm down to experiment but also just wanna get the things built and start using them.

I'm down to experiment but also just wanna get the things built and start using them. I don't think so. I changed my order so i'll have two of those as well to try out. Im using Brads Rouge5 in that sample above. The good news is that the opamps are super easy to swap and change whenever you want to try something or have the time. I really like Brads a lot but they are out of stock sadly..plus now back to there $30 price tag..damn. Still for 30 bucks well worth it. Im going to try the RED25s cause why not.

All I did was use the ED A 2503's from Capi and I believe I have SL1731's in them. I also trimmed the Q pot to the max it could go. I wanted something that acted like a car stereo EQ, where when you boost you can hear it boost and when you cut you can hear it cut. They pretty much just stay static now though...... Almost every mix benefits from where I have them set and it allows me to work much quicker, also you don't get a bunch of phase shifts stacking up by boosting every track, the broad lift across the buss is much more efficient. Also the transformers and opamps in them really impart heavily so choose what you put in there very wisely. You definitely want premium shelf opamps and transformers on these EQ's. Other than that, mine are pretty much stock.

Im looking forward to the 2503L transformers. And shooting out about 7 different opamps.

Yeah I forgot to mention the input IC which is just a differential, doesn't actually do any gain, but, it does make a massive difference in how these sound. You can use any one of the two you listed on an SOIC to DIP8 board and rip the jrc558 or whatever is in there out. A lot of guys will say that because it's not making gain it doesn't matter, but trust me, it does. Hot swap them and you'll hear it really quick.

I think I used LTL's Rogue Five's, which are pretty good and like $20 or something.

You don't need to do any head racking on this, it's even got the right wire colors on the silk pads for the 2503's. Those transformers just give the EQ's a nice mid push and since you've got loads of sub and sheen in your hand to dial in, that mid push really compliments these nicely.

Have you guys ever had communication issues with DIYRE? I ordered the pair of EQP5s on Tuesday and haven't heard a thing since. I emailed twice in the last few days asking for the status of the order and no response. When I placed the order I had them sent to my in-laws where I am for a few days. I was gonna build them here. But if they haven't shipped yet I need to change the address. I don't think I've ever ordered an allegedly "in stock" item and then heard nothing for 5 days?
Is this par for the course for them or should I suspect something is up?

However it is the holiday now so I suspect you won't hear anything until the 26th at the earliest. I received my order order on Friday but not the modified one which has a different tracking number haha hopefully he didn't send me 4 kits. I think it's just due to the holiday season being very busy as it usually is.

They got back to me and said something happened with my order where it was marked shipped but hadn’t (obviously) actually shipped. So while I may not be able to build these anymore right now, I did get a response. May still be able to squeak them in before school starts back up. We’ll see.

Got my second pair built. Has 2503L transformers in them. Stock opamp for now. Be cool to AB the transformers together.
Then I'll swap the IC opamps.
Also built the RED25 opamps. Easy build will compare them with the following: Rouge5, gar918, gar2520, gar1731, garam10.
I have to build those but intend to build a comparison session to hear them all. Should be fun.

Got em the other day, just in time to grab a boat over to my folks for my second batch of holiday celebration.
Stuffed one of the PCBs while hanging out with the fam this afternoon.
Anyone else have the inductor legs not remotely able to fit through the hole on the PCB?

Anyone else have the inductor legs not remotely able to fit through the hole on the PCB? Which ones? I've done 4 with 0 issues There's just the one inductor, right? In both my kits, the inductor legs are way too big for the holes in the PCB. It's weird though, the legs fit easily through the holes in the circle that the inductor covers up, and the inductor comes with one leg bent all the way like you'd do if you were going to vertically orient it like that, but the bent leg isn't long enough to get through the PCB and also the build guide doesn't have you putting it there. The holes the build guide has you using are the small ones that don't fit. Something is up. Any insight? Attachment Deleted
