Hi all, thanks for the very kind words about the EQP5! I can say without pride that I'm thrilled with how it came out, because the sonics are all Joel's work (and Pulse Tech's back in the day, to be fair). And as DIY'er I'm really excited to see folks like Joel modifying our design and making it their own.
I will pass this question along to Joel and see if he can chime in.

I'm looking at these pretty hard right now. Also DIY Rec also just announced an optical limiter for the 500 series and are taking user feedback while they finish up the design.
I just got a Lindell PEX-500, just one, so I am using it on tracks and it sounds fantastic! It has a few more options than the DIYREC PEQ5 in terms of frequencies. I find it very useful and very toneful. It has transformers on input and output, along with a 2520 style op amp. I find it leaves plugins well behind.
This stuff is getting me excited. I've always loved ITB Pultec plugins, but the hardware is just much more gratifying. Also at these price points, it's hard to argue too much.

Not that I think any one here need to watch this, but maybe some one wants to any ways Hey hoborec, welcome to RGO! That was a great video, I wonder how many hours went into soldering plus video editing :-D I think this will help a lot of people. Very minor critique: light grey caps are probably polystyrene, not mica, small trim pot is potentiometer, possibly wired as variable resistor. Looking forward to the next video. Please do post it here!

Please do post it here! Hey thanks! The video editing took longer than the soldering hehe. Yeah, I thought it was weird with the polystyrene caps. I've built stuff with these before, but it said Mica Cap in the component guide from DIYRE so I just read that from there. And about the trimpot/variable resistor, thanks I actually didn't know this. I thought it was always the same thing. It says VR on the PCB so possibly wired that way I guess.

Yeah I would assume VR on the pcb means what you said also.

Just use that 1612 or 1642 with Brad's opamp and the EA2503 and they're very good eq's. I've not found anything that can even touch them without getting into the thousands per channel. I mean they're hardwired into my mixbuss that I use on every mix. Not a lot of gear gets that type of trust from me, that's my living. Also they sound best with the Q almost to the max. Kind of like the treble and bass in a car, very wide Q. Doesn't take much to pull mud, give some sub and give some presence.

anybody got a link to an easy purchase path to the brown dog adapters and the burr browns as a combo? I do love my eqp5's already! I thought the vintage kit bypassed the opamp chips in the non-vintage circuit?

I was wondering if you could let me know what output transformers would suit. I've got some 2503L but would like to know if any other options would suit.
cheers.

I've had the EP5s for a while now. I love them. I built them stock and with Peterson's Vintage kit with Brads Rogue5 amps. I like the idea of using the 2503L though! Will do that on my next pair.

Just want to bump this. Doing a fun pop mix nothing great and not for a client just messing around. But have these on the MB as always. Dialed them up a couple weeks ago where I liked them. Well today I took them in and out...jaw droppingly different. These freaking EQs are the best 400 dollar audio gear I've ever bought. I can not believe how amazing they are at stretching the spectrum in a beautiful way.
Im going to buy two more they are that good. Right now I think.

These are on sale! Can get two with 20% off! I just bought two. Going to put some L2503s in these then hopefully some ADA4898 opamps at some point. Just can't find them right now. Should be cool to try. I'll to the tranny first though.

Been itching to build some more stuff and another pair of 500 series EQs would suit me well.

They are SO good. Hit so far above their price point its insane. I will post a sample tomorrow for you that floored me and made me get two more haha I want one pair for drums and one for just the bus. Which one will live where Im not sure yet as I haven't heard them with the different output transformers. Will find out though! Right now is a great time to get them. I paid 400 for a pair. Thats crazy. That's with no opamp granted as I have 4 spare Rouge5s left over from LTLO. Bought a bunch when they were $19 bucks. Wish I'd bought more..damn you brad! They are nice opamps. I also bought every opamp kit from Jeff as Id like to do a comparison with these EQs with different Opamps.

I'm in a building mood and have some down time before school starts up again. Edit: is DIYre's RED25 opamp any good? They have those in stock for $19/ea.

I don't have any personal experience with the RED25 or any of Whistle Rock Audios DOAs. Im sure they aren't bad though. I sort of wish Id just gotten two on my order..maybe I'll email Peterson just to tag them on while Im there. Can't hurt to hear them. These are also hands down the EASIEST build I've ever done. Super simple. VERY well laid out. PCB is labeled great. Takes no time to build them. Peterson does a great job at that I think. Making it very easy for a newby and fun and fast for the experienced.

Man I very much do not like what the "Audio" clips on the EQP5 page do but it sounds like it's just way over boosted in the highs. I trust you guys more than random clips anyway
