Hey jsteiger I know Clint has these - did he return the EQ's or the pres? Have you seen the Kush Electra? Now THAT seems interesting...

I always feel reluctant to suggest the Electra on the other fourm...simply because I contributed to the design. But the truth is that the Electra kicks ass on the 2-bus....and vocals, drums, bass, guitars, you name it. I use it as my main EQ's for everything in my studio. It does exactly what I want a console style EQ to do. Brad

There was a nice review of the Electra over on GS and the gent compared it to the Hammer. It's worth searching for.
Greg and I worked hard to make that thing available at a working man's price point so that folks could have like 4, 6, 8 of them like we do. Don't let the $550 price point deceive you...it's big money sound.

Ha. Actually that would probably help sell more of them. Then the guys that only have $600 to spend would know what their best option is. Brad

I was not. That was another gent, who I believe is an active member of groupdiy.com. The Clariphonic is definitely cool. I really dug it on guitar bus. Greg sent me over a couple PCB's from early prototypes. I need to wire them up so I can get some Clariphonic action happening at my studio.

BTW - don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but Jeff's LC53A (Love Child) is awesome. I'm trying one out right now...Haven't had a chance to use it on anything other than bass, but it was fan-freaking-tastic on bass. Cranking at 100Hz and 3khz, then using the Missing Link to roll off -6@40HZ...redonkulous...I'm doing some pre-production later tonight (to re-track with real players) - definitely gonna run some acoustics through it...Maybe I can post a sample...

Brad That drum video sold me on the Electra...Saving up for one...the sweepable gain is awesome for vox...Brad, see if you can get Greg over here! Will do! By the way, the low shelf is so silly easy for making stuff un-big, or de-bloating tracks where you stuck the mic in the soundhole of the guitar, or the singer was jammed up on the mic. You can crank some super phat low end in combination with the low-mid band and HPF. I find myself using the low shelf a lot in cut mode. It really was a feature created to address my own crappy engineering. Ha. Greg is more of a "all knobs to the right" kind of EQ user. I tend to do more subtractive EQ'ing and then boosting in the high end. It's a testament to the versatility of the unit that two guys with radically different EQ'ing styles can call it their perfect EQ. Brad

Hey all I have a pair of electras and a pair of Maag EQ 4 and both are stellar. The Maags have fixed points everywhere except the air band in top and the electras are sweepable on all the bands. I use both in one way or another on every mix I do and both have become indispensable. If I had to mix without either of them I'd be so bummed.
Great products both.
With my Electra on vocals I often find the high band cranked all the way up...buried. It's just sweet up there.

Hi Noah!
Where do you typically find yourself pointing the frequency knob on the high shelf of the Electra when doing vocals? That high shelf is the antidote to dark, dull, or boring sound IMHO. Even if you just leave it at its lowest or near lowest frequency setting its pretty hard to go wrong.
One of these days I swear I'm going to make some custom Electra faceplates just so I have frequency labels. Ha.

Wonder if anybody has Electras here in Nashville to try out. I know VK said they had them in stock, but not in Nashville.

One of these days I swear I'm going to make some custom Electra faceplates just so I have frequency labels. Ha. Brad Hey Brad! I agree it's pretty sweet all the way through the bands. Freq labels wouldn't kill me but I kinda like being forced to work by ear only. It feels like ear training like you might do for harmony singing or something. Dork alert!!! The way I seem to be using the top shelf is I go to the top of the band and crank the gain a hundred percent then I start to bring the freq point down until it starts to get harsh and then I'll start backing off the gain and tweaking the freq point up and down until I fall in to a sweet spot. It's usually past halfway, probably more like 3 quarters and above but I'm adding a lot of gain. Then I work the mids with the next band. I'd guess I'm somewhere between 8 and 12k. Still working on the ear training!! It's kinda the way I've always tweaked EQ but I seem to be able to get the freq point lower and the gain higher with the Electra than I can with 1. Any plug at all or 2. Other hardware. I've been doing mostly pop lately and the vocal has to be BRIGHT and clear but it can't be harsh or sibilant and the battle is never ending. I gotta say the Electra excels here. So much so that I've only used it on a couple other sources (once on the master bus). It is parked on vocal channels. I have a pair and I'll get more. My assistant just finally bugged kush so much that we got some recall sheets too. He was sick of drawing em. They weren't up on line. If any body needs em hit me with your email and I'll pass em on.

Also happy to hear from many users that the Electra is so good on vocals
