I put it up at $1999...and somebody is asking about it...Hell, for what I do, I could really probably just buy an AC15, Princeton, SM57 and a pedal and call it a day...and still have $1000 left...HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Certainly wouldn't be as convenient...but it would probably pay for a Sta-Level...

Hahaha, you surely have a soft spot for a STA Level

I always took you for a realist. Ditch the expensive pod and get a real amp.

I have before - honestly, nothing sounds as good as the kemper - except an amp.

I think I'm kind of answering my own question here, but the Kemper is just SO easy to get good sounds with. Yes, I could get equal if not better sounds from an amp and a 57, but the convenience, quality and versatility might be worth the extra $1000. (Actually, I paid $1600 for it, but now they are going $2000)

Honestly, I've never profiled anything...but that would be really interesting to find out.

I checked out a vid of a guy modeling a Mesa Triple Rec. It sounded ok. He was switching back and forth between the profile and the amp and I thought the amp sounded more alive and less closed off. Could be a million things contributing, but this vid didn't make me want a Kemper over a real amp.

I definitely have success with the Kemper for what I do. I never really felt like I could get there with any of the software or pod stuff. But then again, I don't know if I would cut a featured guitar album with the thing.

John, you need to get into DIY. You can build an amazing Champ for 500 bucks (Http://triodeelectronics.com/5f1kit.html) Then buy another cab and you can get a lot done with killer tone. It won't do anything high gain but tone for days in that little amp. Then pick up a zvex box that rocks or some other high gain pedal. Also the new AC15 blow. Be very careful putting money towards one of those. They had nice ones in the early 2000's and late 90's. Those sound great.
I've thought about the Kemper but only for high gain amps. I don't want to own a bunch of that stuff. Let the guitars player buy that expensive stuff.

I actually dig the new AC15C1's. Cheap and I think they sound pretty good. Obviously, if rather have a 3rd Power British Dream or Divided By 13 or Matchless, but don't really need something that big, loud and expensive. Actually, I think I've ruled out selling the Kemper. Just too easy to get good tones. I'd miss it.

Good decision, I think the Kemper has a place in a studio, even though I don't have one. As far as plugins go, I dig Rockrack and S-Gear. I also use a 1970s AC30, 2 Marshalls (1979 JMP 2203 and a 2005 DSL50) and a cheap Fender combo. Would love to try the Kemper also, but I guess I need a Urei 1176 first.

That's what it looks like from where I am : ) Although not every guitar player can record at lower volumes, small amps are very useful in the studio. Oh, and you might find the 57 (specially the newer Mexican made ones) are not what works for you. I never had much luck with them on guitar cabinets/amps. A ribbon and a condenser at the same distance from the speakers gives a great control over girth and detail. Sometimes a room mic really helps to approximate the sensation you have in the live room.

For demo's I've been just using the Poulin plugins. They're really good too. Space is limited in my space but I'd love to get to the point where I have a small collection of lunchbox heads to mix and match in conjunction with the Kemper.

+1 for the LePoulin and Nick Crow Lab plugins. Also, i like the AcmeBarGig and TSE plugs very much.
To my ears they sound alright, and can hold up against anything money can buy. For hi-gain, i consider those great emulations just as good as the real things, and for lower gain - well, at least good enough for me and very convenient. But i am not a guitarist. Nevertheless, i know guitarists that are enthusiastic about them as well... (Btw. here around everyone seems to like the Kemper. What do you think about the Fractal Audio Axe Fx? I even know at least one pro acoustic gitarist who really digs it, and he really is one of the best around in germany...)

Hey JK,
My buddy bought an AC15 C1 today, VERY nice little amp, I made some profiles of the top boost setting, I'd be willing to share, I'm not sure what kind of gain structure or micing you go for though.
Keep your Kemper man. That thing is nuts.

Just curious, John, have you tried an Axe FX II? It seems a little more versatile than a Kemper, but maybe it doesn't sound as good. Of course, for less money I could probably build myself a DiY JCM800 and call it a day for what I do.

He lives in Nashville....any day of the week there are 30 great guitar amps for sale on Craigslist for reasonable prices. I've seen blackface ProReverbs for $600 and Silverface Supers for about the same...there's a Fralin VVT on there now with a killer "western" tolex--I have the regular white one--it's a kind of "best of Fender but small and gigable"--single 15" speaker...best reverb ever. But, there's Divided By 13s and I saw a British Dream come up the other day. Someone selling a Holland Bassman clone for $1k--which is silly....hell I bought the hot rodded version with the tube reverb tank in the back last year for $600 or something.
There's no shortage of great amps for relatively short money here.

I have been playing with a Supro 1642T profile that has been blowing me away lately...Don't think it's going anywhere. Now way I could have this much versatility at this price...By the time I got a decent sound out of the single amp I would buy to replace it, I would have had to buy a Royer 121 and a 57...

Bought an AC15C1 for live use today. $475 on the used market. Such a sweet amp. Will I record it? If time permits I guess, I profiled the exact same amp a few days ago and the profile I made sounds really good.
