How much GR are you applying? It's a really cool idea you've going but it feels like the accents the guitar are giving to the vocal are being flattened a little too much. Maybe a slower attack might help bring it out.
Reminds me of this time I went with some local Seikhs for one of their masses. The music was performed by a very shy looking 15 year old girl with a little cheap keyboard, a few female singers and the guy we knew, Gurmak, on the Tabla. Absolutely fantastic music, so beautiful and so many variations in tonality and rhythm for what was largely vocal music. The food was good too!

I tend to hit hard, with a lot of dynamics, more like Keith Richard or Pete Townsend, when I need to be a bit more steady, like Dwight Yoakam or Tom Petty. I'll be getting an 1176/Urei style compressor in a few months (best Colbert voice) NOOOooooo! I've been working as hard as i can designing my studio to have the largest dynamic range possible, i believe you should play as you feel...period, if you want a little more steady, back the mic off farther. Also agree with jcouto, a la3a would be better for clarity, or may i suggest getting a aphex 651 with the J Williams mod, they are amazing and insanely transparent IMV, and cheap in comparison.

Tasty.
When using mid-side to record an acoustic guitar, is there a preferred type of mic, should they be the same, different, makes no difference?

Cardiod in the mid and figure 8 for the sides. They don't have to be the same.

Tasty. When using mid-side to record an acoustic guitar, is there a preferred type of mic, should they be the same, different, makes no difference? i may have said this earlier, but i like a ribbon(always figure 8) on the side, it rolls the highs off(like a sound in the distance) and gives a depth of field, i also like my C12, K2 or 4033 M depending. I recommend a faster/color free pre on the ribbon, must have a lot of clean gain to work well ime.

I think I'd like that setup Tony. When I've used two mics, I tried an SDC in the neck position and didn't like it. The sound was too thin., and a ribbon is definitely not thin. I have one of those devices to boost the gain on ribbon mics, just no ribbon yet. I won't be able to look at ribbons until after I get the Thiersch capsule upgrade done .
