I didn't particularly get that from Erik - @erikpapp ? I don't know. The blurb on their website said that it was focusing on the U47 or something like that. Maybe they're not doing that anymore and that explains why they his those pages. Not sure.

Sorry for off topic, but donr - have you noticed that the high strings G,B,E don't seem to be as loud as the the lower ones? Hey donr - did you guys in Blue Oyster Cult have particular mics you were fond of? John, didn't want to derail the flow of this thread, but now that it's quiet, the AT-200 I have is balanced across the strings like you would expect a regular guitar would be. I don't know what's under the hood with the electronics, but maybe it's tweakable. When we did the early BOC records I wasn't paying much attention to the mics we used. Most vocals were U87's, dynamics on guitar amps, 57's and 421's. I think some earlier recordings at CBS we used some EV dynamics too. Maybe some AKG 414's. I don't remember tube Neumanns in the day. If they had them, they weren't using them for our sessions. No outboard mic pre's, everything went through the board. CBS had their own custom consoles. Record Plant had an early API board, MCI machines. Our first record was recorded at a jingle studio, the Warehouse, on the first Scully 8 trk in NYC. At the Record Plant, we mic'd guitars with a dynamic and sometimes a Beyer 160 close, then a U87 a few feet back and blended to one track. By the time we did the last overdubs, there'd be a couple or more parts on the same track, sometimes multed to different faders on the board for mixing purpose. Agents Of Fortune was our first 24 trk record.

Interesting stuff. Cool and no doubt the wave of the future as 10,000 people want vintage U47's and C12's and there are only a handful of good ones left in existence and they cost as much as a nice car.....
But unfortunately, in my experience, long term, with use over months and years, the trickery of digital plugins and manipulation cannot match the actual "real life" of analog products. Yes, it can get close, yes it can approximate, but at this point in time, there's no substitute for the "real" thing. My opinion.....

That's just it My wallet so wants it to work, but I'm sure over time the warts will shine through! The thing is though the research into this type of modeling might help In getting that last bit out of the clones!

With the current state of songwriting, I won't be buying any $15k U47s. So this might have to do.

I think 1200 is a good price. I'get a silver Apollo next week, I think I'll give this a shot as well via Indiegogo. But I am wondering about the UAD plugin - I guess UA offers a new software version when the Sphere starts to ship? Or maybe it will be part of the next update when UA got something new and Sphere buyers just have to wait until that happens?
