This is when you have to dig deep, John, because faith is the key to just about everything. Don't give up! You will get the perfect puppy for your family; I know you will!!

Honestly take a week go to the shelter without a specific pup in mind. Somebody there will just mate with your daughter, been there. The 2 dogs in this place picked us more than we picked them ! Beagles are cute, but talk about a breed that will run , they get on a scent and will follow there nose for 10 miles! Keep the faith!

Not for nothin, but there are hundreds of dogs in shelters that need adoption. you might consider a dog older than a puppy, if they pick you first.

An update...
When we first went to adopt this little dog, she was named Faith. My daughter wanted to name her Molly, so we went with Molly Faith. During this process, it hasn't been lost on us that her name was Faith - but as you can see in this thread - it has been hard. There have been lots of twists and turns. So - yesterday we found this beautiful little akc registered Beagle - 11 weeks old - that needed re-homing. We ended up driving about 45 minutes to meet the girl and her boyfriend. She was given this dog, Lilly by her boyfriend, but they were both 18 and just couldn't handle it as she was about to go to school. Really mature decision by her actually. So, we get there check Lilly out - love her - and we are going through wih the transaction. I said, "I know it's tough, but you're welcome to come see her anytime..." Etc. she looks at me and says, "thank you so much - my name is Faith btw..."
I nearly broke down into a fetal position. Seriously. I can't deny that was a sign from the big JC. I think he was telling me, "It was YOU that didn't put her on the leash...it was YOU that lost her...but guess, what, I've been here all along..."

Now keep that pup on a leash or fenced in! We send emails to our dogs old foster parents, in fact before we left Madison for TX we took Stevie to MN so his foster mom could see how he had improved!

EDIT: poorly worded late-night post came off a little depressing sounding.
I was just attempting to express that losing a puppy is really hard, from experience, and the naming coincidences can be cosmic indeed. You can really learn a lot from dogs, that's part of why I love them so much. I would post a pic of my two pups if I had one handy. We have one giant black dog, and a tiny little white dog, they make quite a comedic pair.

I have a theory that a dog comes with gifts. My little Charlie was surrendered to a shelter when he was 9 months old. His hair was tangled and overgrown, and he had a lump on his back where he'd obviously been beaten, probably with a stick. He was completely untrained, frightened and would try to bite if you touched him too quickly. We got a trainer and worked with him every day. After a couple of months and a little grooming, we were on his morning walk when someone said to me, "oh you have a Begay Cocker" ! I thought, a what cocker?
Turned out Charle is a rare tri-color cocker bred from AKC Best in Show champions. One of the breeders is named Gay Ernst, hence Begay Cockers. Mrs. Ernst is 76 now, still living on Long Island and active with other breeders. Not only was Charlie descended from champions, he's possibly the most beautiful example of the breed I've ever seen. How anyone could hurt that puppy is beyond me.
I thought getting Charlie was my penance for not being the best doggie daddy I could be for my Doberman Patton, who I got when I was 16. When I was in my 20's, I was recording and traveling a lot, so all too often, I had to leave him him with my parents. I tried to take as good care of him as I could, but I was still being selfish and put myself and my interests first. I'd even get angry when he barked when I was recording. I also loved that dog so much I still had dreams with him in them 20 years later.
But I was wrong, I had an epiphany just two days ago, Charlie was here to teach me to forgive my father for all that I felt he didn't give me. Charlie needed veterinary care, shots, medicine, training, exercise, food, and he's had some injuries too. I also have a dog trainer to walk and watch him when I have to go somewhere for more than 4 or 5 hours. I calculated it costs around $6,000 a year, all together to take proper care of him.
I never understood how hard it must have been for my father to have a kid like me. Between 6 and 10 years old I had four horrific injuries and actually died once after not breathing for ten minutes. They shot adrenaline into my heart, nothing happened, and they'd left the room to tell my mother I was dead when I woke up. The pressure, pain and worry my dad felt must have been tremendous, but as a kid, all you see is what you want if you don't have it.
So Charlie's helping me see just how much my dad had to do just to take care of me and my sister, and I'm grateful to both of them.
Charlie "Barker" Butler :-)

I fear some hipster might be raising your puppy. You may get her back someday with piercings and an affinity for craft beer.

Fantastic. She is every bit as beautiful as the the super sweet love that she will be getting from her new family. Cheers to the coming years, and may they be filled with sloppy doggy kisses and happy doggy days.
