All I know is Shannon took a clone I built and put it directly against a very well respected person's 251 and we went passed the sound of the vintage 251. Vintage mics are inflated in price, the worst thing is to be buying one right now. Very interesting, can anyone school me on that CV4 mod that goes into U67 territory? I had a CV3 here also, and I liked both of them, but they just fell a little short of my standards.

Thanks ericn, I don't want to bother Shannon just to talk about something I can't hear. I was wondering if anyone had any recordings of these modded mics, as well as chains used. Thanks.

I understand, I have heard his tweeked 67 handy work in the Korby and some day I'll have him do one for my Lawson if he can BUT if anybody can steer you to somebody who can tell you how it sounds it Shannon, as well as what and how close he can get you its Shannon! In fact as soon as I get home I have to call him for the guy who I just bought brake parts for the X5 cause he wants to know about a mic but don't want to piss the man off so I'll call him talk shit and find out!

Yes, I totally agree. I have spoken with Shannon regarding certain designs. I just don't want to waste his time right now until I figure out what my next step in the locker is. I have two older 414's that need that magic touch also.

The cd John Moreland High on Tulsa Heat they used my Shannon cv4 (one of the first mods ) with a RTZ pre on vocals You can hear song samples on I tunes Was recorded in his living room Also thought I would add that my studio partner just had his cv4 modded a couple months ago and Shannon's new mod is different sounding. That being said we like both gives us two flavors both nice

That's one reason I recommended the Soyuz 0-17 and the Blackspade UM-18R, they sound like they sound, and are not clones, but they're world class, and you very well might chose them over many vintage mics if you had the chance to do your own shootouts.

I really need a good tube mic... I tracked today with a "clone" it worked but DAMN so did I !!!! to get it to work... I'm almost ready to hunt down a vintage mic, there is nothing new that excites me, I'm so NOT sure about all these clones, I NEED a great mic for tracking. I need a homerun, I have NO time to waist on lots and lots of trial and error and tweeking and blow a session. Currently made outstanding tube mics: Sony C800G Brauner VMA, VMX & VM1 Manley Ref C & Gold Bock 251 & 407

Dont be afraid of hitting up shannon. When i got my cv4 done we ended up chatting a few times over skype about motocross as we both love the sport, tho he actually used to race. He's super friendly and really humble

When I got my Bock 151, it just sounded amazing on vocals and acoustic guitar. So much that you can't do anything to the source to make it sound better. One of my favorites. It has this beautiful silky top but with some nice full solid low mids, and huge midrange. Kills on vocals and Acoustic guitar. I couldn't hold on to my Mikteks because of this mic, I couldn't use them after using the Bock. Good luck finding a used one, I have tried to get another, no luck. I'm not in the market for it now, but by far one of my favs. I haven't heard the new ones yet, but I will be listening in the future. I will be talking to Shannon a lot in the future also. Thanks a lot guys for introducing me to Shannon...now I will be broke forever! Will work for microphones. I hold John Kennedy entirely responsible. You sir are building an amazing mic collection for my daughter, to put it in a better light...lol

This almost seems like a commercial, but considering the source, I'd take it seriously:

0-17 is a tube mic, using a U67 style, ( but proprietary) capsule. The 0-19 is FET, and probably aimed at the U87 in the marketplace. It is certainly a contender, and has a $1500 lower list price.

I suspect Ms. Massey got that mic as part of her product endorsement. That's not to take away that she may like it, but its a commercial.

My wife loves the way her voice sounds with the Soyuz 017 which is really great for me. Now any gear I buy I convince her that it's not really for me it's for her. Hope that works with the matched pair of Chandler RS124s that are being delivered tomorrow.

I happen to know that Soyuz does not give out mics for free for product endorsements. I might have assumed that myself from the video.

Hi all, Don't forget about Dany B's M7 or even (shameless plug) My Hk 47.. I prefer them both over the other M7 47 options out there. My personal u47 just killed a tfunk 47 in a shoot out.. It was built around Danys dual tube boards and cinemag transformer with my hk47 variant. Eric I 2nd this--- I was at the above mentioned shootout, and the tfunk u47 sounded like a cheap chinese mic in comparison. No hyperbole, it wasn't even close.

I happen to know that Soyuz does not give out mics for free for product endorsements. I might have assumed that myself from the video. Martin, I have heard that tune many times, and often they don't "give them away " The distributor, or maybe an exclusive dealer, or the Endorser gets paid a fee or sometimes they simply get very very nice transportation, acomadations, and a very nice per deime. Often it's a "Short Term Demo" that never needs to be returned. Some simply just give it away. You can call me cynical, but you don't know how many times I had worked my ass off trying to sell a product, that "was never given away to endorsers" only to find that "big name" suddenly had one and I would hear how they never tried to screw me, but nobody looks a gift horse in the mouth. I don't blame them and man since I was the guy who put the endorser on the Companies radar, well let's say the smart ones learned to take care of me and my people. Not saying Sylvia doesn't buy her gear, but she is the flavor of the day and I have seen how the game is played, and yes I have been a compensated endorser and will state so any time I discuss their products.
