Deadly. Oh for a time machine to go back and snap up all gear when it is at its lowest (price) point! (implied use of the irritating term price-point, to piss off those bemused by it) When I think about it I kinda feel sick. I have a feeling the truth is somewhere in the middle. You hear stories about 670's in the trash etc. yeah I'm sure that's happened but I also think some people like to exaggerate. I found a pair of Macintosh MC50 mono blocks and a beat up Ampeg Reverberocket in the trash about 5 years ago.

This just arrived from Sweetwater: Saved a couple hundred on a demo. To pay for it, I have to sell this: ...or at least that's what I told my wife. Honey, you smell great, but not as great as a 50-year old amp!

I know of a major market station putting a dozen RCA OP-6 in the dumpster within the last 10 years.

I've often said that's my dream...walking into some garage sale in a little town and picking up a mint U47 or 251...for like $200

Virtually guaranteed that the employee that made the decision to place them in the dumpster went back to pick them up after-hours.

I've often said that's my dream...walking into some garage sale in a little town and picking up a mint U47 or 251...for like $200 My fantasy as well. I've driven all around the country (for various reasons) and I can never resist going into any flea market or yard sale I see, though I rarely ever find anything good, let alone U47s. But the dream lives on. I sat in my truck one day, outside a thrift shop here in Seattle, and for whatever reason became totally convinced that I was about to walk in and find a U67. Like maybe the universe was telling me to just embrace my dormant psychic powers and if I just TRULY believed, it would be so. It was not so. Instead of a U67 I found old clothes, knicknacks and Englebert Humperdinck records, the usual stuff.

The internet has screwed us.

OTOH, I'd have none of my cool gear without the internet. There's not really much of anything around here in the first place.

I'll post some other things later, but I've been wanting this for a while, and finally grabbed one. It's a little different than a real 12 string, but eminently close. In fact, it's tunes itself better than we can tune a 12 string ourselves. Live, I can now easily get the basic 12 string sound I had on a track of mine without actually having to bring a 12 string electric to a gig for just one or two songs. If I was a big star, sure, I'd use a real 12 string, but this actually has its own integrity, and I plan to use it when tracking at some point. </attachment> Attachments:

Some drums, of course. A 1960 Ludwig COB Super Ludwig, 60's Ludwig Supraphonic, Slingerland Blue Sparkle Artist snare, Gretsch Round Badge Silver Sparkle 20" bass drum, Ludwig Signet Gigabeat kit (these are really great drums that didn't really take off in the market...I paid $300 for the kit and I'd recommend it highly)...probably something else I'm forgetting.
I did actually buy some stuff for the studio as well. I got an awesome Teisco Nomad 61 combo organ and a Sound City Piano, which is a funky little transistor electric piano. Both need a little work (organ D keys don't work, piano needs tuned) but it shouldn't be too much trouble. I also grabbed a Summit TLA-100 which I've been liking for just a couple dB of gain reduction when tracking, an Electro-Voice RE-15, and a Shure 545S

It's been an expensive year so far. The U47 FET, Ampeg B15n and the Trinnov STC2 system currently living in my studio, means I've spent 2017's and a bit of 2018's allowance for anything studio related. Very happy, though!

Some people say you can get addicted to buying gear and spending money. Not me though, I don't have a problem, I really don't.... I can stop any time I want to.
