AKG C414 B ULS matched pair Lucid 88192 ADDA (waiting for it) Had a pair of b-ULS for awhile. Great mics. Let us know how you like that 88192. I've heard some great recordings come off of those. I always kinda want to grab one. i finally got patchbay and setup completed, wow this Lucid is great! It doesn't add/substracts anything to signal. Now I hear reverb tails clearer, eq and even compression is easier, of course it's cruel if there's somehing wrong in your mix. I'll get a second Lucid if I ever find one for 16 channels of crystal clear ADDA

Just received this. Sounds great, but . . . Hpf switch creates massive distortion when activated to either 75 or 150. Listed as 'all switches tested' so asking for a partial/full refund... Ebay...

it's deciding to work sometimes... it really is finicky though. i guess it's not a big big deal. to the sellers credit it does go in and out. seems to react better to the api than the neve phantom. probably just coincidence. this mic did not like being shipped is my guess.
it's nylon. i am having shannon put original brass caps in them. second one is otw. im confident he can address the weird hpf issue on this one.
thanks eric btw for the recommendation of shannon. i think you were the first person to mention that i send my 269 to him, and im glad i did. super nice guy. got to spend some time with him and really enjoyed it.

Just bought a pair of Sennheiser HD 600 headphones.
FWIW: I like them better for checking mixes than the Focal Spirit Pro's I bought last year. When I go from my Adam A7X's to the Sennheiser's, I don't feel like I'm stepping into a different mix.

You can get a nice synergy like that sometimes; I use Grado PS 500s and Amphion one 15s - good combo. Cheers, Ross

Glad you found yours too.

Just got a couple 500 series Kush Electras... and I'm so smitten, I just ordered another pair. These things sound so amazing
Also recently added a Behringer Deepmind 12 Synth and Korg Minilogue - having a blast with these both... serious bang for the buck!

I just got this National Resolectric a week ago from Artisan Guitars in Franklin, TN. I bought one from them a few years ago and made the mistake of selling it. Happy to have one back. They are really versatile.

cOrtland switches on 414's are notoriously problematic. It just needs a good cleaning. Open the mic, spray the switch with some contact cleaner ( you'll probaly have to unscrew it to do so) and move it back and forth until it works properly. Dirty switches and bad capacitors cause 90% of the problems associated with 414's.

I've been trying to figure out what has been bothering me about my electric guitar recordings. On a whim, and after checking out some clips, I grabbed a Sennheiser e609. I really dig it. I pretty much always combine a Warbler MKID, in voice position 3, with a dynamic. I'd been using a 57 for ages and I am liking the 609 better. Less nasal peak, less cloudiness. Just sounds kinda right to me.

A 2007 Kia Sorento to replace my truck after the motor in it had a catastrophic failure two weeks ago. Still, on the scale of things, a 'first world problem' and the stock stereo is at least bearable.

The second pair of Kush Electras have arrived... Happy as a pig in mud about these things! Good Dr. ! electra and capi ( bt50) and or the new chroma is what I am thinking about. can you comment on the sonic differences ? what are you most appreciating about what the electra bring to your rig: other than being groovy brown ?

Good Dr. ! electra and capi ( bt50) and or the new chroma is what I am thinking about. can you comment on the sonic differences ? what are you most appreciating about what the electra bring to your rig: other than being groovy brown ? kcatthedog - i have not tried the Chroma, although it looks way cool - a preamp wth a variety of analog processing options - what a cool concept! I have used my API 550's a lot and I have plenty of EQ's that have a "sound" or "vibe" to them. The API's (which are similar but not identical to the BT50) are great for adding some vibe and "forward-sounding" punch to things. They are very musical but they do color things and add some attitude and vibe. That is often a good thing - but... you cannot get real precise with them because of the stepped pots. Sometimes I wish I could get in between settings. They also are fairly broad. You cannot get surgical with them. They often are perfect for a lead vocal that needs to come forward in a mix, and they do sound great on most anything. When pushed too far, the 550 can get too bright or edgy sometimes. It is not a soft sound. It definitely imparts character. The Electras offer much more control over the sound. They are not harsh in any way. They are perhaps the best shaping EQ I've ever used. They impart a very slight vibe but are very natural sounding. And the top end is as sweet and musical as I've ever worked with. Never harsh, and they don't introduce phase like many character pieces do. They also sound great on the mixbuss - I could even see myself using them in mastering which is something I wouldn't do with any of my other 500 series EQ's. The control they offer is incredible. Even though they are not parametric, they offer a control that to me, is much more musical than a parametric. I prefer them by quite a margin to the speck and great river eq32. The great river sounds great, but the controls were a total workflow killer for me. And recall was near impossible because a tiny movement of each knob made such a difference. Electra has been very easy to recall here and I really can't say any negatives about it other than I want more. It sounds musical and fantastic on everything. It's the perfect all around 500 series EQ for me. Having the 550's, the AML Neves and the Electras covers most ground I ever need. And I have a pair of Avedis E27's which are beautiful sounding also. With that said, I'd be sad if I have to give up the Electras or the API. They both get used a lot.

Built myself a couple of funky mixin' cubes. MCM 5" full range drivers. Same plywood that my desk top is made of, so it will match. They sound really good, different but comparable to the Avantone I used to use. I was not OK with the idea of brand name cube speakers being more expensive than my main monitors, so I had to build my own. I learned a lot about woodworking in the process, which is why the second one looks a lot cleaner than the first one. I suppose this basically completes my monitor selection, so now I can worry about other things, like rack gear and more DIY microphones.

Thx DrSax, I appreciate your frankness, what you wrote really supports what I had been inferring from reading about these different Eq's.
I am still flirting/trying to figure out a way to get 8 eq's for tracking and for mixing but even 2 electra would be a good start. I had wondered about using them on the mix bus too !
