Beta 57 was a better mic than a Mexican 57 on almost anything, the 58 though always got edgy, the higher output was nice, but it was the mic that gave Neodymium a bad rap. Thanks Eric. I did a little reading. I have not used the beta57 since the 90s. Apparently, once can still find these but they made need new foam. I wish I knew more about changing foam as I would also like to have some of the Senn 409s from the 80s and refoam them. For 409s you can trim some headphone foam to shape and it works fine.

A new Soyuz 017 FET mic. They raised the price a few hundred, but they now include a shock mount that's built like a... ahem... Russian tank. Plus they include a 20db pad and ship in a really nice larger wood box. Looks like the same shock mount that came with mine three years ago, but not with the bigger box, pad, and the non-shock mount. Would definitely like that box housing everything, if I ever put it away (so far always on the stand).

I recently ordered a second ECM-519 directly from Empress Effects -- bought one earlier this year.
Their confirmation email is hysterical:
This email is to confirm your recent order. We are confident this purchase is going to give you that last puzzle piece you need for your journey to stage lights and lear jets and fortune and fame. We look forward to seeing our pedals onstage in a flash of pyrotechnics as you preform elaborate jump-kicks in leopard skin tights. Your beautiful mullet flowing in the blowback of a smoke machine as you nail that saxophone solo, I can see it now.....
Gotta love them Canadians!

Breville Barista Express from the wife for Christmas. Loving this thing. Only question is do I set it up in my mixing room or do I leave it in the kitchen?
Champagne problems. Actually, espresso problems.

And finally (this is my last planned post), I purchased this StreamDeck a few weeks ago. Best thing since sliced bread if you spend a lot of time at the computer. It's basically a panel of hot keys. You can purchase profiles for it if you want, but it only takes a tiny bit of programming ability to set it up just the way you want. Each button can send a single keyboard shortcut (or series of shortcuts) to the app you're running. And each button is a little display that you can assign as you like. There are thousands of free icons available on the Elgato site or you can make your own. You can set up a profile for any app you like and the profile will change when you give focus to the app. There are also less-expensive models with fewer buttons. For example, one pic shows what I set up for Safari. Along the bottom are a few websites I can launch. At the top are navigation and control of the Safari sidebar. The second pic is for Sibelius. Each button goes to a submenu with tools organized how I like them. I'm still tuning this one. Haven't set up one for ProTools yet. If you're like me, you may not be able to remember all of the keyboard shortcuts that you'll use in a big program. Or you may create your own shortcuts (they're hard to remember too). So you end up mousing around until you find it. I'm finding that the StreamDeck is a huge time saver that I can extend as I go. It's not a vintage mic or preamp, but it's really making life easier for me.

I was thinking I really want an above average analog Parametric, preferably with recall for various tasks both live and in the studio, I would like some manual control a fairly nice graphic interface. So I made a lowball offer on a Varicurve, it was excepted.

I'm on a plugin bender - I blame holiday sales:
- Lindell Audio ChannelX - Lindell Audio 354E - BrainWorks Townhouse Buss Compressor
Maybe 3 is not a bender, but it feels like one.

Bummer.

Just got in the Trident HiLo 500 Filters as well as the Chambord BF-500 Filters V2.
At first I felt foolishly GASsy for getting both, but after having them for a few days I find they are remarkably different and are non-redundant.
The Trident HiLo is a really sweet full featured filterset. The variable resonance, wide frequency sweep and the dynamic tracking make it a surprisingly deep tool. It will take me a while to fully appreciate it. The interactivity of the resonance and tracking is fascinating, and the tracking seems sensitive to gain staging so there are a lot of aspects to experiment with.
The Chambord is relatively simple in comparison but really sounds great! It's so gentle when set to 6db/octave. Those Butterworth filters are indeed buttery smoooth. It almost didn't sound like it's filtering until I get really deep into the freq range of the filter. I'm getting tons of use from it. Instead of hijacking a HPF from some other device (VacBax, Electra 500) I just run through the Chambord. I have a couple of King Tubby Big Knobs (Audio Merge, Westfinga) but those HPFs are pretty specialized and crazy steep so not great for general purpose. And the Chambord was only $189 USD (!!). I should have gotten two. Now they are out of stock and the preorder price looks over. Still well worth it at $228 imo.

Well I need to get the chips for the 320 upgrade…
And apparently, 82 guitars is not enough and I’ve ordered parts for another Tele build… one I’ve been wanting to do fir a while.
A beauitful swamp ash blank from Woodtech routing, a rock maple neck from Redfish, and a bridge/double tele pickup assembly from Rio Grande pickups.
Gonna do a red wood dye and gunstock oil finish on the body. Not sure about neck and/or middle pickups.
Doing a 4-way switch for the dual tele pup… allowing either pickup or both in series or parallel for a bunch of twang/tonal options.
I’ll be back with updates - in the Guitar/bass/keys/drums/flugalhorn subforum.

I got a matched pair of sE Electronics sE8 (SDC's) recently but only got to try them this past week. Sounded nice on an acoustic guitar (singer songwriter demos with the Chandler TG-L on vocal duty). They seem pretty neutral, not too overly hyped anywhere, which is what I wanted. I'm sure there is plenty better out there, but probably not at this price point.
