ugh....new HVAC for the studio....there go all the reserves.... If you don't mind sharing, what unit(s) did you go for? Legacy system was gas furnace and AC, advice was to go with same for various reasons which made sense. Connecting to existing ductwork, not ideal but what I can (sorta) afford to do currently.

Man, that is the worst, Doug. So sorry to hear... Not a sexy purchase. But an important one. ESPECIALLY in North Carolina. ESPECIALLY in the swampy summer (which now lasts nearly 6 months...).

I think he spent way more than $10K

I’m kind of intrigued, KT at this point is a split personality company, they still offer some of the classic gear, some slightly more Behringer stuff but above Uli’s name sake ( the purple colored stuff) and the clones. Where this sits nobody knows. Exactly! The proof is really in the listening! It may be good. Result is, made my 44 sound muffled and cloudy. Whether it is an impedance or hardware issue, it's not workable with that mic. On the other hand, I threw it on my REDD at the mic's lowest gain just to experiment and was pleasantly surprised that it actually sounded really good. Keeps a really nice, open tone, while taking a bit of the edge off my vocals. Not what I intended the KT for, but I'm keeping it for that application.

I'm staring down the barrel of $10-14k on a rental, and $30k+ on our main house (dual units). Just put $2k in repairs for the studio mini split last year due to lightning. HVAC life just isn't fair sometimes.

I just got a pair of FETheads, and realize how nice the peace of mind is for not accidentally torching a ribbon mic. One thing I need to figure out is it almost adds too much gain! 10 Db would be nice, but 22-25 feels a bit much at times.

After my 3rd 30 day demo I broke down and bought MDWDRC2, did their BF special and added the EQ for $50. More than I wanted to spend but it does things I haven't figured out how to do with other tools and makes my life easier.

When that price gets real and comes down to earth, I’m gonna demo those things. 😑

Earlier this year I rescued a Dolby A rack at a price that was very friendly. Previous owner just needed it out of the home I guess. I was on a John Williams kick and wanted one to match with the A80 for history’s sake... Opened it up and found the Sound City badge.. my heart skipped a beat. Since the other thread mentioned Dolby A and Fleetwod Mac, figured I should share .. Now if I could figure out how to embed an image.. ibb.co/ZTwzhJtibb.co/r6LFhjN

Traded an amp for a Fender JMJ Mustang Bass. Love the thicker neck compared to my late 70’s one (which lived a hard life). Nice one to have around the studio

I went for the Focusrite 230 blue. My friend now tells me he can sell me 2x AML 54F50 for 1900€. He's really, REALLY, after all my money, this friend. This is a good price for two brand new AMLs. Damn. Not again...

Black Knight pinball machine. Not audio but certainly between takes related.
Childhood memories fully resurfaced. The 80's were definitely the greatest decade although we didn't know it then.

Fortunately, there’s a great antidote to that - the fact that I (and probably most of us here) need zero additional plug-in compressors

Agreed, except that the MDW compressor does seem to be one of the most different compressor plugins out there. I don't know, I haven't even demoed it yet, bc I can't quite justify the purchase if I really love it.

I have ordered a pair of Chandler Microphone Cassettes- one in stock, the other back-ordered (bah!). It is one sexxxy piece! Besides its obvious use as a preamp, I'll be using them as an insert during mix. The compressor is accessed separately, which opens up the possibilities.
I am addicted to Chandler Limited gear!

Nice one to have around the studio I have one of those for my studio and I love it. Get endless compliments and more than one bass player has tried to buy it from me. Flat wound strings plus short scale neck equals a bass so easy to play even a guitar player can do it.
