Bummer... I got my stedman N90 in from reverb after Eric wrote about it... the element (or something) is loose inside the grill and causing a horrible noise. Completely unusuable. Package didn't look damaged either, so I'm guessing they just got it and sold it without testing it. That absolutely sucks!

Traded a Guild 12 string for a J45 Standard…excited to have a slope shoulder. I think I’ll get a bone saddle made (Tusq or whatever it is just doesn’t sound right to me on the B and E string ever) otherwise happy with it! And as nice as the Guild was I don’t need 3 acoustic 12 strings 😆 I upgraded my J45 with a bone nut, bone saddle and bone pins. I also threw a set of vintage style tuners. They were hard to find, but made a HUGE difference in terms of feel. Changed the balance of the guitar, not so neck heavy. I’m thinking similar things…bone nut and saddle and some Gotoh Vintage 3 on a plate style tuners…probably the “Deluxe” with the 1/18 turn ratio. I don’t gig so I’ll probably take the electronics out because they pretty bad 😆

I am talking about the 19” version. The difference is tubes. 500series comes without. I have the 500 series -- I forgot them even made the with-tube rack version. The rack version doesn't seem to come-up used. Ok, was able to hook it up today. It really sounds great... plays well together in front of my vari mu mastering comp. I was doing some a/b with uad plugs and its much smoother in character and fatter in a way. really like the low frequency seperate frequency for boost and cut, makes a big difference. Attachments:

Been on a bit of a 500 series spree, a pair LTL Chromas with both Royal Blues and Hitmakers, a Singular Audio Tubedrve and a Bereich03 Densitry. Oh aye and a pair of Capi Bt50s with ca-0252.

Feels great and in this climate it hardly ever goes out of tune. And the gold doesn't tarnish.
I would not use any 3 on a plate tuners that I've ever seen - not reliable.

I personally don't like the added weight to neck (feel the same way about the Grover's on my Les Paul Classic)...but if tuning is a problem I can always change it back

I'm guessing a male "Apollo". Over a female "Grace". (From the Blue collar) So... If the Room better treated yet? It has to be! Instant corner Bass Trap. (Or salmon?) Chris

In the end I didn't bought the second hand Dynax2 from Al.so.
Few people know, I learned about it by calling Oliver Bolling directly a few days ago, but there is actually a Dynax3 available and it's somewhat cheaper than many Dynax2 for sale out there. The transformerless version at least is cheaper. It's Olivier Bolling's favourite. Lots of new features, a new mean "sorgin" ("witch" in french dialect) mode etc.
It's sold direct and in small quantities, contact Oliver at Audiotechpro.fr
--------------------
I'm about to buy a Focusrite blue 230. Anybody think it's a bad idea ? Any reason I shouldn't do it ? No demos online, I've just read a few good things about it (it's not well known I think, it's a semi-stepped Red3 with trannies IN/OUT).

Blue 230 was billed as a broadcast compressor, but the timing was wrong, air-chains started to go digital all in one boxes for about the same money and you could free up rack space for station automation. They became a cult favorite of mastering guys. Probably the least colorful Focurite.

Ok interesting, thanks Eric ! It was so very expensive too...! 5K at the time. I read that the 230 equipped with IN & OUT proprietary transformers have a little something going on sonically, but something different from what the very bright Red3 late revisions offers. According to a few forum posts, a 230 with IN/OUT transformers is basically a coveted Red3 mk1 with some stepped knobs. And blue. The transformerless versions of the 230/330/Red3 are said to be a bit boring in comparison. Also it's said that you want to have the proprietary Focusrite VCA in your unit, not the THAT vca chip. The one I can buy ticks all the good boxes, in term of transformer and VCA... Not cheap, but not overly expensive.
