Guys would you pay 500 euros more to get a 21 stepped Elma make up gain switch on a Al.So Dynax 2 compressor ?
I can get a Dynax2 with dual unstepped make-up gain for 2,2k. or a Dynax2 with stereo Elma 21 step make-up gain for 2,7k. (1dB steps for most of the switch range, and 2dB for the last two positions)
I've been torturing myself for two days straight on the matter. I like the steps, but 500 euros is a lot. The workflow will be much better with steps.
Argh

Just got 2 more LTL Mr. Focus with the BF sale, with Hitmaker/SF modules. Also ordered the new Aubergine colour modules from diyre and a couple of the super filter mk2. My goal of loading the Cranborne R8 with Mr. Focus is almost done! Can't wait Nice!! I've got a CAPI 11 space rack full of MrFocus modules - each with their own set of compression / saturation characteristics. Really great!

AKG D224. Never owned one, but used them in the past. What a cool microphone.

Lee, Congratulations, D224’s are a very special mic and would probably be on everyone’s radar if it wasn’t so effin impossible to find a nice one in good working order. A fair amount of people think it sucks because their sample doesn’t work! The bad news, your probably going to want another and will find out how many bad ones are out there.

Yeah, I took a real chance on this one, from Poland. It could have been a disaster but the first thing I did with it was use it on a kick drum, then a snare bottom and it was a punchy little thing. I hear the bass side often goes bad and they're impossible to fix or get parts for. When you just talk into it, you think it's broken cause the tonal balance is weird, but I think it's just peculiar sounding that way. As soon as I put in in front of actual music it works great. EDIT: I think the low end of this mic is derived from little holes down towards where the XLR gets plugged in. Strange design.

I acquired three more 24x48x4 Rockwool batts and some wood. And made three more bass traps. Made three previously, hung from the ceiling, and had bought enough cloth for six—these three are going on the wall. The clouds were needed after changing to a mic that required more distance when singing. And their addition was an immediately profound improvement. This time the need isn't so apparent, but I'm curious to hear how much I'll notice, and see how it affects the room measurements. Same design as the clouds, the only difference that I put picture hangers on those and hung them from eyebolts via stainless wire. These will be mounted with L-brackets (3x5), to stand them off the wall. Yeah, not the place to discuss sound treatment, but a cheap way to improve the sound of the rest of the gear.

View AttachmentGot the itch eh? I could take that two ways, I'm not sure which way you mean it You know, I was sweating away on the third one last night, starting late and night wanting to get to bed too late, before I thought that proper handling would include a mask (and maybe long sleeves), but I knew I was handling things pretty carefully. But when I was a teen, I came across an old long board, and pulled off the fiberglass and used the core to make my first surfboard. I think I basically filed the perimeter, then pulled the top and bottom off as sheets. Oh yeah, I had the itch (my forearms) for a week or two. No problems with the Rockwool though. I'm fortunate to have a room without parallel walls or floor/ceiling, and lots of junk like big bookcases and keyboards at various angles, so it's not bad in general. But when I went from AKG C414B-ULS and SM7B and eating my mics to Soyuz 017 FET and needing 6-7" minimum, the reverb time became more apparent, especially at higher gain when singing quieter. Just adding the clouds alone was a dramatic improvement. So if you mean the itch to make my room sound better, indeed, I'm a believer. And not that I saved a lot by making them myself, I was just able to make them how I wanted and I'm assured of exactly how robust they are.

Drum roll please... just picked up a current model Martin D-28. Plays and sounds exactly like what a D-28 should in my opinion. Story time. _____ When I was first learning to play guitar I was using my mom's nylon string to pick a few chords. But I couldn't get it to sound like the records I was trying to copy (mostly Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly, type stuff... yeah I didn't have a lot of friends!). So my mom says "that's because they're playing steel string guitars." "OK, I need one of those." So my mom gets me one I can borrow from a friend of hers. I play the stuff I know and it really does sound more like the records. In fact, pretty much JUST like the records except for my lack of skill. I do that for a few months and save up a few hundred bucks, time to buy myself my own "steel string" guitar. We return the borrowed guitar and my mom is driving me around doing some guitar shopping. Everything I try sounds terrible. Maybe $400 isn't enough to get a decent guitar (this is 1993 money so maybe like $700 today?). We go to a shop and I'm talking to the guy at the shop and just kind of feeling like giving up. The guy goes... "Well, what have you been playing on? Maybe we can find something like that in your price range." "Oh, umm... I think it's called a D-28 or something?" "A Martin D-28?" "Yeah, that's it! Have you heard of it?" "You've been learning to play guitar on a borrowed Martin D-28?" "Yeah, it's my mom's friend's guitar." "Well, that must be some friend. Anyway, that's the greatest guitar ever made, you're not going to find anything like it. You're gonna need to lower your expectations." ____ And so I did. For thirty years! Until... today!!! The wait is over folks. I finally got my guitar. I love this story.

Klark Teknik Mic Booster CM-1
Before all the tomatos fly, this is just my low-investment way to evaluate if I want to go the Cloudlifter (or other primo brand) or AEA preamp route for my 44A. Figure that's worth $35.
And an AEA R44 Series and RCA 44 Bag to replace the ziplock bag currently covering it on the stand.

I’m kind of intrigued, KT at this point is a split personality company, they still offer some of the classic gear, some slightly more Behringer stuff but above Uli’s name sake ( the purple colored stuff) and the clones. Where this sits nobody knows.

I meant their 1176 version. (I'm better off generally not to Print anything Effects-wise)
Personally dreaming of an Audioscape Opto eventually... Chris P.S. Enjoying the Mark Ronson "Sampling" episode of the BBC Maestro classes tonight.

The Vet said the dog was delighted. Chris P.S. Had a Vet who was also a Vet. And drove a 'Vette.

Bummer... I got my stedman N90 in from reverb after Eric wrote about it... the element (or something) is loose inside the grill and causing a horrible noise. Completely unusuable. Package didn't look damaged either, so I'm guessing they just got it and sold it without testing it.

Traded a Guild 12 string for a J45 Standard…excited to have a slope shoulder. I think I’ll get a bone saddle made (Tusq or whatever it is just doesn’t sound right to me on the B and E string ever) otherwise happy with it! And as nice as the Guild was I don’t need 3 acoustic 12 strings 😆

They were hard to find, but made a HUGE difference in terms of feel. Changed the balance of the guitar, not so neck heavy.
