Picked up a nice blue sparkle Ludwig Jazz Festival snare at a good price, and after 5 years of looking a 14x14 Slingerland Oyster Pink Pearl Stage Band floor tom to go with the rest of my kit. Also a cheap Heil PR40 which I think will probably live on the bottom rotor of a Leslie cabinet. And a made a somewhat lowball offer on a Summit Audio EQP-200A and it was expected so I guess I bought that as well 😆. I don’t have any Pultec style EQs in the studio so excited to hear it…two rack space stereo unit is definitely more convenient than 6 racks spaces for two monos…

I don't know that there's any substitute for the real thing if you've got the space.

I’ve tried so many things…right now I have a pair of AT4033’s up there because our M3 (or the Leslie itself?) is surprisingly darker than most and doesn’t get screaming loud so they can handle it. I’ve got a RE20 on the bottom rotor now but sometimes I’ll use that for a bass amp or even a banjo and I like having the Leslie permanently hooked up so it’s always ready to go, and the PR40 seemed like a good one to try…it was only $100.

I love everything through a Leslie and I’ll never forget Booker T using 2 either side of the stage. It was so far out. I use a 47 fet for the bass and an SM69 tube or a pair of Bock 251’s up top.
Talking of mics I just splashed out on a pair of the wonderful BU67 MK2 and a pair of the BC12a tube. I’ve wanted them for ages but it all came together when Funky Junk have started representing them in London. They are my favourite capsules and it’s great to have such a great company that serve their customers well without turning to China for easy profits and cheaper quality like many who have no shame. In fact it would appear their prices are reducing. Can’t wait to use these beauties on drums and you name it. I’ve wanted a C12a pair for over heads for ages. I now have a 67 battalion to match my U47 regiment.

C12's are some of my favorite OH mics, but they are unobtanium, and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Have not had a chance to use the "A's" on OH. But generally, I prefer the non-A version on most things. Ben is certainly hitting it out of the park these days....

C12a's can be dark but I repaired a pair years ago from Olympic studios that sounded every bit as good as C12's.

I haven’t heard his regular C12 but if they are anything like the 12a then they will be great for voice, bsss and drums etc. I have vintage 414’s and the capsules are so good that putting them in Flea 12’s are like the real thing. 1 limited Flea has got all the original pattern box etc. they are lovely mics. I prefer them to 251’s in the bass. mics classic C12 with the new logo will be so cool.

Being in a room with a Leslie is so cool. Did people ever do quadraphonic or surround recordings of them? Stereo sounds nice but misses some magic. Can’t wait to use these beauties on drums and you name it. I’ve wanted a C12a pair for over heads for ages. I now have a 67 battalion to match my U47 regiment. That's a heavy-hitter collection of tube mics. C12A on overheads is an awesome setup. Have you tried the Stam 87T on toms? Wonder how they'd do as overheads or room mics too.

These speakers are incredible. Seems like they've worked out a lot of the kinks from the early days.
I know a lot has been said criticizing the DSP/ergonomics of the latency, the ostentatious prose around the materials, but a lot of resources have gone into designing these, and they live up to the hype. My take on some of the marketing and the founder is that they're just nerds who are learning how to sell. But they're not trying to fool anybody - they've made something worthwhile. Seriously considering ditching my SCM25As, that's how impressed I've been. If I didn't live in New York, I might think twice given the DSP aspect and some of the early hiccups, but it's not a long cab ride to these guys.
Those look interestisng. Wonder how they compare to the D&D 8c?

1. IGS RB500ME -- stereo Rubber Bands. Pretty cool. I like it so far. 2. Audioscape V3A. Boy, this thing is well made, heavy as lead, and sounds terrific...certainly a mo-betterizer! It's my first AS purchase.

I'm super happy to have a Stamchild 660 finally arrive and already a big fan of it and the added DC Threshold. Keep up the great work Josh!

Coffee spill yesterday. Caused a short inside the Budget PC laptop. At least the replacement one I bought last night, is a 14" screen. Up from 11.6". Will be tracking on Audacity and Multitrackstudio Lite for a bit. To get that 4 Track-ish experience! Adding N-Track 9 on it (already paid/on the last laptop), can wait. I'm sure I'll load the couple of UA/Relab Plugs soon. Along with some cool Freebies. Chris

I recieved my Audioscape Opto today.
Whoah - I'm definately late to the Audioscape party but - wow!
It sounds bl**dy fantastic.
I had a UA LA2A reissue here once for a weekend demo and for my personal tastes found it too vanilla compared to a vintage unit and thought oh well maybe I'll stick with plugins for that sound and track with my other tube comps.
But this Audioscape Opto compressor has that vintage vibe down just the way I like it and hear it in my head - a fikkin' bargain in my book.
Well down Audioscape - I'm genuinly very impressed.
Quiet unit too - very impressive noise specs.

Recently I got a O.P.R 251 standard with his ck12 capsule and mod switch, very lovely I ended up putting a payment down on a second so I could have a matched pair (serial no 0001 & 0002)

Just got a Friedman Mic No Mo and I'm pretty blown away. It's basically just a DI that goes between a guitar amp and its speaker with some sort of passive/analog speaker emulation. I'm guessing the speaker emulation is just EQ filters since there's no modeling or anything. The box is surprisingly heavy so I imagine there's some decent transformer in there as well.
Regardless... it sounds like like a miked up amp. I'll post samples later but it's pretty shocking.
You can tell the difference between the direct signal and the miked signal. But it's a difference so small it's equivalent to swapping mikes out. Plus I was comparing it to an m88 which is not exactly what a random dive bar is gonna throw on your amplifier.
No idea how this thing works but I'll tell ya... it does.

Stam 87 tube mics with the mod. I just tested yesterday. Wow is all I can say. And Omni on them was also great. Josh Stam hit it out of the park with these. Amazing build quality.
And Electrodyne 500 eqs from Peter Montessi. Stunning. So simple to use. Great on hand drums by the way. I love them.

I'm OK with it - it looks very cool racked above my Retro STA Level, Thermionic Phoenix MP and Swift Tube EQ .... 12 RU of Tube Magic (Actually I have spaces between them as they get pretty warm!) But yeah, I know what you're saying after checking inside (they're beautifully built) I can see it would fit 2 RU without any issues.

This is why I always felt a pair of JW modded ADL 1000’s was a better buy than 2 UA’s. The 2 extra rack spaces and ironically the ADL’s with the very old school hang the tubes and iron off the back design ran cooler.

Ordered a pair of Tegeler's, a Creme bus comp/master EQ and a Magnetismus 2 transient shaper/VCA comp, looking forward to adding them to the multi-bus blend set-up. 2nd unit arrived this week, finally had time to remove it from it's custom crate and power it up. Have to mix 3 more shows this weekend, then maybe I can get a breath to wire them into some inserts to test on some mixes:

But it's an awesome deal for sure! I kind of want someone to talk me into it. Haha.

Well if a picture of the clasps on the included shipping crate don't push you over the edge, I don't know what more... I already use two different stereo VCA bus comps across my subgroups and am a pretty likely candidate for a 'more stereo VCA comps than you'll know what to do with' offer. Having every control on a switch for recall pushed me over the edge, as I've got VCA automation on my subgroups and keep it analog after stemming out. The second bus comp I added to the blend was a dione, should be cool comparing their action.
