I cannot get into the B-ULS's. Bought one brand new back in the day, added another cause I thought I should have a pair. Bad decision. Don't see what you guys hear in em.
After having them for a couple of decades and NEVER using em I sold em both. They always came up short in comparison to a dozen other mics. Don't miss em one bit. Wouldn't mind having an EB with brass capsule, but the B-ULS's....meh

Holy shit, ericn, that is perhaps the UGLIEST mic I have ever seen. I mean, FUGLY. I swear on the beloved ghost of Shipley, Shure was on to something. Make it sound awesome and make it ugly enough to scare off rodents and skeeters!

Like I said it's a Buick ( think 74 laSaber or my moms old 454 74 Estate Wagon Only GM production Chassie longer was the Old Caddy Excutive/ Diplomatic Limo) It also has one other great feature, a look that says no fucking way do you want to steal me ! But I kind of like the rugged polished Grocery Store Gooseneck PA Mic ( those were the PE--- mics if anyone tries to sell you a vintage highend Shure Unidyne PE--- laugh in their face)!

Nothing much has changed in terms of its functions. I think they've updated the faceplate and the PSU is now free volt. Same price as the previous version and I got mine from the Front End audio. Had to wait for 2 months to get the updated unit dangerousmusic.com/product/liaison/

Hope to get it before weekend so I have time to solder patchbay connections. They are coming ridiculously cheap. The only flaw I read about is clock but I'll try it slave and master with my RME FF800 and RME ADI 8 I had a friend who used one for years. His stuff always sounded great through that thing. If you don't mind me asking, what did you get yours for? Seems like a great way to add some quality I/O on the relatively cheap. I'll use them for my mixing setup: 8 channels DA from Lucid and 8 from RME to Studer mixer and various analog outboard: DIYRE Colour assorted modules, AML 2254, custom VCA comp, custom 2520+1731+2503 Stereo Pultec and back again to stereo AD through Lucid 88192

Of course EB's are great but their price is too hyped. ULS don't come up often. XLS/TLII sounds just like plastic, I mean cheap plastic (no pun intended for XLS and TLII lovers). I mainly use ULS on classical and folk instruments spots (harp, violin, mandolin, balalaika...) in excellent sounding concert halls so no need for close-miking.

That is a cool look, though, like their Compressor and some of their other stuff. Awesome piece of gear!

I got an Eventide Eclipse second-hand at half retail price. I am using it initially to run widening/doubling on vocal tracks back into the box. Once I program a few de-tune/doubles that I like it will only take 2-3 runs through the song to add them to the session and I'll be able to then merge them into the mix to taste.
I had been using the de-tuning trick ITB, where you copy a vocal track and de-tune +/- 3%, 6%, 9% panned left and right but I found it created a phase-y sound.
So far very happy and I guess I will have it on hand to use some of the weird and wonderful presets some day on tracks if inspiration hits :-)

It's a copy of a copy. A copy of the Jan Ray from Vemuram which is a copy of the Timmy from Paul Cochrane. I call it the Fortune Teller. I can see why this circuit is so popular. It's totally different to any overdrive or boost that I have. Lots of volume boost available, and a wide range of touch sensitive gain. I would not pay $375 for this sound, but I think the Timmy is priced fairly. Lovepedal also copied this circuit in their Amp 11. I need to sleep off the solder fumes (whoops) but it's a fun pedal.

1930's Collins Radio program amp. 3 stage tube amp with gain control and push-pull output stage, work as a high gain mic pre. 4 transformers in path, in fact a transformer between every tube.
