Pair of Neumann KH420’s. Not too many of these in the wild so took a chance. Was on ATC 20’s which I really like except the low end was far too lacking especially after move to my bigger space and I didn’t want to put DSP in the path to align subs. ATC 150’s were the planned upgrade but alas the price tag was far too steep. Given I was on Neumann KH120’s before the ATC’s the 420’s are familiar just more of everything. Deeper low end and at volume which is great for tracking. They get loud. Like stupid loud but still sound balanced.

I picked up a XQP 531 De-Esser for $200. Great piece! Super smooth, "X" setting seems to be working best for me. Really transparent, I think it'll get a lot of use. I know a lot of people just edit out ess's in a DAW but I think for tracking or on a heavily compressed vocal this will be just as good, I'm sure I'll find other uses for it too. Otherwise just some stuff for fixing up a drum set...hardware and heads and shit. That's a crazy price! Those definitely stand apart from digital de-essers with that musical optical subduing. The oid promo video they have for that is good times too! Cool guys IMO. Try it on a harsh guitar in the high mids or a pokey squeaky bass at the lowest frequency setting (W) maybe? Nice score.

Got to do some ATMOS mixing on these with the matching subs and it was very enjoyable. Congrats, that's a big purchase but a wise one for sure!

A ancient windows 95 laptop to control a BSS Omnidrive install with no front panel controls. I feel like I’m rebuying every old computer I ever owned for abandoned software. If only virtual machine and USB to serial adapters got along. This sounds way too painful for me. But you go, guy!

SNIP . . . getting a curious ringing sound in my head from the AC15! That's likely a microphonic preamp tube. AC15s are known for it. EL84, bouncy filaments!

Just ordered a pair of the Kali IN-8 V2 powered 3-ways. I've been looking for a 3-way that would work for a 7.1.2 lay-out in my space and heard good things about this model in particular. I figured I'd try a pair as stereo alt monitors to see if they translate for me before considering 7 more.

That's likely a microphonic preamp tube. AC15s are known for it. EL84, bouncy filaments! EL84s are definitely not the most robust power tube ever made but they hold up better than preamp tubes in a lot of AC15s and AC30s. DRZ amps (Mike Zaite) has switched from EL84/6BQ5 to NOS 6N14N power tubes. To make any Vox amp better, use the best NOS 12Ax7a preamp choobs you can find. I like 5751s for v1 and v2 positions as well. Especially when I want a cleaner tone with more headroom, or using pedals in front of one of them (I only have 5) p.s. Edit . . . I referred to 12Ax7s but there is a family of 12A_7 tubes. In order of their degree of gain, the most common are 12AX7 5751 12AT7 12AY7 12AU7 and 12AW7. I've messed around with many combinations over the years to get different tone and gain combinations out of my Voxes, and found using a 12AT7 best for phase inverter, 12AX7 for v1 5751 for v2 and 12AX7s for the rest of the triple preamp and top-boost circuit, with 12AU7s working best for both tremolo and reverb circuits. But YMMV.

Just snagged a Pope Audio BAX 2020r (stereo rack version). Really beautiful sounding unit. Was it used religiously? Chris

Man the difference a little holy water makes, those are sure prettier than any of the AKG D190’s or D1000/1200 I owned and the Pope and his predecessors can be seen pretty religiously. Besides a couple of producers who found them to be their sonic heaven they were great for talking priests out of using an unnecessary wireless “ but this is what the pope uses”.

Man the difference a little holy water makes, I had to make some in a recent emergency. Seems a REAL Vampire had moved into our neighborhood. Late at night, without an available cleric (that means like a Priest-But not Judas Priest Eric)... I had no alternative but to use some tap water. And boil the hell out of it. But when I put it in the neighborhood "Welcpme Casket" and finally met him we quickly became Blood Brothers. Chris P.S. Vlad greatly prefers the BIG RED Beesneez Badge BTW. It's bittersweet though. Reminds him of his Family home's RED front door, in Transylvania. And having a good Bloody Mary with good 'ol Uncle Lycan.

Today my order of two Lewitt LCT-840's came in from Sweetwater. I've already wired one up for some testing but haven't done anything except check signal. Sounds like a microphone so far! Can't wait to do some tests.
However... there's nothing quite as satisfying as looking up the prices on something you bought on sale after you've finally gotten it. They were blowing this out as the they are being discontinued but there are still some out there. And yep, they're back up to $1k - $1.2k depending on which retailer (or out of stock). So $599 each sounds pretty darn good!
And, as with all Lewitt's the build quality seems fantastic and it's way less ugly in person than it is in pictures. And, I'm ashamed to say, I kind of like the tube window with the "toob glow" illumination. Haha. Don't mock me!
