Roswell K67x (with Deep Purple custom finish!) and a Vox AC15. Now, if only I could figure a way to get the sound out of the amp and into the mic... Purdy! I'm no expert, wait, yes I am... Yer gonna need to put that mic closer to the amp. [/Chrismode] Yeah, I kinda couldn't NOT get the purple 67. I mean, that's my star sign! Getting great results from the Roswell and getting a curious ringing sound in my head from the AC15!

SNIP . . . getting a curious ringing sound in my head from the AC15! That's likely a microphonic preamp tube. AC15s are known for it.

I picked up a Lynx Aurora (n) from a forum member here. It's a bit of an upgrade from my first gen Lynx Aurora. I'm a huge fan of Lynx. Great drivers and support. I was a Prism fanboy through and through but this lynx (n) is noticeably better sonically. The open air and width is unlike anything I’ve heard yet. 4 units for 1 was a no brainer.

I think my amp is innocent here, the ringing is all on (in) me...

I've been on the hunt for $50 or less omni dynamic microphones for talk back in the studio. Found an Audio-Technica AT8004 and a Shure SM63...any other I should be on the look out for? I need about 4 more...

It’s different than a 635A, but still in the dynamic omni family. It’s only $90 new, so it should fall in the $50 range.

Like most Omni dynamics the 635 was designed as a handle Newsie interview mic, unlike the 635 it’s more mid forward designed to reject noise. The Shure is lighter as the housing is made from a really hard plastic. Every manufacturer has a handheld Omni dynamic ENG mic all will work fine for TB, the question is, is it worth a bit more for a 635a or RE50 for a flat very musical mic you will find other uses for? There is an old long handle Beyer that’s pretty musical but I can’t remember the model #.

I got in a Fredenstein Bento 8 chassis. I finally built a DIYRE EQP5 I had laying around and couldn’t wait any longer for a chassis. It’s been on sale for $360, and I wanted to start going down the 500 series rabbit hole at this time.

Watch for awesome deals from Kush around Thanksgiving/Christmas.

There is an old long handle Beyer that’s pretty musical but I can’t remember the model #. I particularly liked the EV 636 and VP64 for guitar amps when I didn’t want proximity effect. The 635A is fun for shoving near the sound hole of an acoustic guitar with no proximity effect. Never tried using it as a crotch mic for drums, but see it referenced for that use. They used to be in the $50 range, even with forum hype, and may still come up at that price occasionally.

I have read up on some good sales on the 500 series over the years in my recent research. I didn’t even realize what the Kush 500 series pricing was like. I thought the normal price would be in the $800-1000 range like most single space 500 modules.

I’ve got a couple 635’s but occasionally use them, but I’d like to have some permanently set up talk back mics ready to go…but I put an offer in on a pair of VP64’s. Should tied us over until maybe making the upgrade to a Hearback Pro system, which have talk back built in…expensive and as much as I’d like an analog cue like a Mytek it’s not practical. 6 “more me’s” in the original Hearback often aren’t enough…wish people worked with a shared cue but again, not the reality for most musicians these days.

Picked up a Fredric Effects Utility Perkolator MKII…distortion circuit I’ve always been interested in but never tried. Also a Peluso 251 shock mount for my Upton 251, and a couple cheap omni dynamic mics to use for talk back.

A ancient windows 95 laptop to control a BSS Omnidrive install with no front panel controls. I feel like I’m rebuying every old computer I ever owned for abandoned software. If only virtual machine and USB to serial adapters got along.
