I got a Zeppelin Design Labs Cortado contact mic today. It JUST got here, but I'll use it this week, I think. Does it come from over the hills. And far way? Chris Imported directly from Kashmir?

POM Fairchild SN:61 NOS original transformers I want to read more aboutt this acquisition and the applications of said acquisition please! The POM is going to live in a tracking and mixing facility down the bottom of the earth
It's main best friends will be a REDD17 console, some coils, RCA's, Thermonic Culture, some Hyland Dynamics and other tube comps, etc.
That's the tube entre.
Main meal starts with a 10 channel 1970's Electrodyne's side car, plus a large bunch of outboard pre's / comps / Studer tape machines etc. Its a crazy marriage of gear with a custom 16 channel 8 bus class A console, and a Peublo 32 channel mix bus pulling it all together for OTB hybrid mixing - and totally setup with digital I/O
Not the best set up for a lazy engineer... Opens in about 16 weeks

Needed a cheap guitar so I bought a cheap guitar. Have to say I'm really impressed — plays and records just as well as any mid-level guitar I've used.
15th fret on the high E is a little wacky, but apart from that, these are a friggin' steal. $180 from GC. Needed a Tele for an overdub session 15 years ago, drove around town playing everything on the wall, ended buying one of those $179 Squiers. Still the studio Tele today... Bought some new PA plugs, Lindell SBC, NEOLD U17, ADA Flanger & Schoeps Mono Upmix for $55, then got the freebie PSP oldTimer from Avid and RO-Gold Plate from Black Rooster: blackroosteraudio.com/en/landing/ro-gold?product=ro-gold&subflag=organic

NICE! JMHO: Not much wrong with that! A few upgrades: Pickups. If you're recording, find noiseless ones that sound like old 50s Broadcaster ones. Pots. CTS 375s are your friends! Caps. a high quality 0.47µFarad is great for traditional 1k and up roll-off. I prefer a 0.33µF for a more hollow sound. Bridge. a Calaham 3 barrel with compensated saddles is more "tone-y" Tuning machines. Locking ones from Sperzel Hipshot or Fender. And yes, you're going to put 3x the initial cost into upgrades, but it will be worth it. In my humble estimation.

I reviewed the Tegeler VTC not too long ago and could not bear to part with it. Honestly, I had to edit that article once or twice beyond the usual because it sounded like a love story. ( Woo-hoo I made their press release page!) In years of doing reviews, I've become at least somewhat better at not falling in love with the toys I get sent. The VTC just sounds so musical to my ears. To be sure, one man's trash / another man's treasure - but there's just a certain something about the way that circuit behaves when you dig into it a little harder with longer attack and release times, I might only have the needles swimming around -2 to -3db, but the way the tubes and transformers make HFE sound glossy and polished, it's become an absolute go-to. I usually start a mix "Brauer-style" with it patched in. I sometimes use it in combination with a more aggressive limiter ahead of it (TC Master X remains a favorite for making mixes leap). Absolutely beautiful piece of gear. Just read your review, 👍. I’ve been wondering about Tegeler gear for a while. I regularly track at a studio with a Drip Fairchild, which makes everything sound better, and since then have been lusting after a vari-mu for various bus duties. I’ll have to check out the VTC when my wallet can afford one.

I regularly track at a studio with a Drip Fairchild, which makes everything sound better, and since then have been lusting after a vari-mu for various bus duties. I’ll have to check out the VTC when my wallet can afford one. VintageKing will demo one to you if you're in the US, globally Tegeler will as well. I stopped short of saying (in the review) that the $2200 VTC is the same as a real-deal (or cloned) Fairchild 670, that would be sacrilege. What they share in common is more (to my ears) how the triode tubes behave as a gain control element. But I would most definitely put it up against the Manley or DW Fearn and call it a fair fight - that's pretty high praise especially when you consider the difference in price. It's best to judge a piece of kit on its own merits, not how it compares to others. Kinda like how there are two dozen different VCA-based bus compressors out there that are inspired by the SSL G 384 (but more based on the Gyraf). It's one thing to sit there and bench test one against another and find the dissimilarities. It's another to rack it up and say, "is this a worthwhile addition to my setup?" or "is this a viable tool for improving my work?" Because the second is more forgiving, optics-wise. Without knowing your clientele or what you want out of purchasing an expensive piece of hardware, I can only say that everything I fed that Tegeler seemed to benefit. You can just sweeten a little, or you can play whack-a-mole with your transients. It's really 'cushy' - and they could certainly charge $1000 more without it being overpriced for the quality it delivers.

Don’t care if it sounds like the Fairchild…I mean I really don’t know if the Drip unit I use sounds “authentic” or whatever…I just want it to sound good. It’s good to hear that Tegeler is the real deal and at just over 2k sounds like a great price!

DM me a mix if you want and I'll run it through for you. Hearing is really believing. Tegeler didn't give me a super friendly media rate when I kept mine, I'm singing their praises for free. Shoot, by now I think they do owe me a freebie, I've seen a lot of outbound traffic from our site to both VK and their own website.

Needed a Tele for an overdub session 15 years ago, drove around town playing everything on the wall, ended buying one of those $179 Squiers. Still the studio Tele today... Yep, I'm still kind of blown away several days later. It obviously can't touch a nice Suhr or vintage Tele/LP/whatever, but compared to all of the $500 - $1000 guitars I've owned/played, this is honestly just as good. NICE! JMHO: Not much wrong with that! A few upgrades: Pickups. If you're recording, find noiseless ones that sound like old 50s Broadcaster ones. Pots. CTS 375s are your friends! Honestly, my first impulse after buying was to throw a single coil sized P90 in there. But I've been doing some recording with it, and man... it's just shocking how good it sounds stock. This is a great list to have on hand though. I'll probably get around to everything on there at some point!

BTW, I am thinking about demo-ing this other Tegeler unit.... the Schwerkraftmaschine. Street price USD is mid-3k, but when you see everything this does, to say nothing of how they've woven proven analog tech with very modernist appointments (not many pieces of rack gear have servo-driven knob motors or an LCD "VU" display), that price starts to seem a lot more palpable. Here's a demo video - though I'd really have to hear it outside of YouTube audio file compression to make any sort of quality call. Point I'm driving at is, for a little over $1000 more you're going to have a multi-band version of the VTC plus much, much, much more. And, of course, you get to jokingly say "gesundheit" every time someone tries to say the name of this thing.

Just had a library refresh.
I bought Spitfire Audio Abbey Road Iconic Strings (professional) and their Chamber Strings .... my first Spitfire Audio libraries and it's a big WOW from me - really amazing stuff!!
I bought AudioSamples VHorns Brass Section - also a WOW!
Softube Model 84 and u-he Repro 5 and they're a definite "f*ck how do they do that" these VI's sound within a hair of the hardware.
Finally I bought Compu 78 from Loot Audio which is a cheap little CR-78 emulation for Kontakt and blinking great for $20! Instant "In the Air Tonight" (just add in a Repro 5 pad and you're there :-)
So that's it for a long while, budget well and truly blown!!

I picked up one of Matt's extra Stam 1073MPA preamps. I was short two preamps for tracking all 24 channels simultaneously with my Lynx Aurora. This should cover the neo-Neve thing fine. I already have plenty of channels of Hardy, Daking, API and Midas.

An Unfairchild and the accessory box. Amazing but there is a learning curve that I'm spending the holiday weekend on.
Sounds incredible though.

Just bought a Contax Zeiss 28-85mm push-pull zoom lens from Japan. It’ll take a week or so to get here. I’ve got several Contax Zeiss lenses already, including two other zooms. They are outstanding. Literally my favorite zooms I have ever seen. The one I just bought was just under $200, and the last one was $130! And I’m talking world class image output.
Seems I like my lenses like I like my microphones: German.

Yeah I’m just hoping maybe a b-stock some day and not one of the rebranded Panasonics! Did I ever tell the tail of my father losing a Leica over the side of the boat years before I was born.
