A ukelele, a sitar and a taiko drum.. ...and the bartender says, "which one of you is the lady?"

An Unfairchild and the accessory box. Amazing but there is a learning curve that I'm spending the holiday weekend on. Sounds incredible though. I've been itching to try the StamChild mkII. I'm wary of reissues/reimaginings but the Stam-SL bus comp clone with the Blackmer VCA recreations is nothing short of amazing. I spent a lot of years with an old E-series under my elbows, still with original 202c's for automation and dynamics. Maybe it's a twinge of nostalgia, but those early 80's 4K desks just have a certain 'something' to 'em that my ears like better than their transformer-be-gone preamps and THAT 21XX VCA's. Or just the pursuit of 8" floppy disks. Only issue is that my wife equates rack space with price. I could buy a $2000 500 series piece that wouldn't get so much as a second look, but she'll sense 6U of tubes, bakelite dials, and VU's before it's off the UPS truck. Still... I definitely could use a little 670 in my life.

I definitely could use a little 670 in my life. I was looking at the Stam as well as I know his stuff is great (use the SA4000 MKII as well). indiehouse has an SA670 up for grabs here. VK had a demo deal on the Unfairchild that was less than any used units out there and the UNFa-1 takes it to another level so had to jump. Lol on the rack space! I totally get that as well as the visual impact on your spouse's perception of studio cost benefit ratio. Haha. My RE-301 moved from the rack top to the floor at the moment because I don't have room. Awesome on the 4K experience. Obviously a lot of well-known dudes agree with you there. And still use them. I eventually want to end up in console land, maybe in the Wunderbar realm but for now, my room is sorta dependent on my more minimalist mastering type setup, reflection and monitor placement wise.

Bought an Avid S1 and a Samsung tablet…making some changes to my workflow and hopefully they will make it faster/more creative.
Thinking about ditching my Lynx Aurora 32 (n) and PMC IB2 and getting a Matrix studio and a (somewhat) simple Atmos set up for home. I’m starting to feel the burn of leaving money on the table and if I’m going to have to change the way I work and deliver projects I might have to go fully/mostly in the box when it comes time to mix.
After this year I don’t think I want to “fight it” anymore.

After this year I don’t think I want to “fight it” anymore. Why not implement a hybrid system like I'm doing that's designed for total recall of settings "just in case". Best of both worlds. A bit convoluted at the beginning, but yielding real world rewards that plugs can't touch. If you're running HDX it's pretty easy. The biggest downside for me is more I/o and the heat it creates.

Just bought a Contax Zeiss 28-85mm push-pull zoom lens from Japan. It’ll take a week or so to get here. I’ve got several Contax Zeiss lenses already, including two other zooms. They are outstanding. Literally my favorite zooms I have ever seen. The one I just bought was just under $200, and the last one was $130! And I’m talking world class image output. Seems I like my lenses like I like my microphones: German. Cool! I'm guessing you shoot medium format digitally? It's sad that the German engineering quality mythos doesn't carry over to cars. Otherwise, having mostly German stuff would be nice.

I might get there at some point, but I moved all my outboard to the tracking studio where it gets a lot more use. So I’m splitting my time between there and home. If I’m mixing at the tracking studio I keep it pretty hybrid with hardware inserts, but projects that are “send me a mix and I’ll get back to eventually email you notes” situations just keeping it in the box is a lot easier/faster. I might eventually sneak a few things back to house. But I’m excited to get into working with S1/SoundFlow/BounceFactory at home for a bit and expanded from there

I mean everything you say makes me want one lol. Don’t care if it sounds like the Fairchild…I mean I really don’t know if the Drip unit I use sounds “authentic” or whatever…I just want it to sound good. DM me a mix if you want and I'll run it through for you. Hearing is really believing. Tegeler didn't give me a super friendly media rate when I kept mine, I'm singing their praises for free. Shoot, by now I think they do owe me a freebie, I've seen a lot of outbound traffic from our site to both VK and their own website. DM Sent

Classic vibe 60’s Tele baritone and a Vintera V neck for a tele build. I’ve had this giant neck on a tele I built for years and keep really wanting to get along with it but my hands have been saying no for years so I finally gave up and got a different one to try out. It’s a great sounding guitar with TV Jones pickups in it so I’m excited to have it in better playing shape.

Beyer MC-834 NCPV Condenser Microphone Thanks to Eric for finding and advice! Those are great. It was one of the mics my old boss wouldn't sell me when I bought him out.

I’m betting he is going to want a second! I always wanted another when I had them. I really should just buy a pair. The only thing that I didn’t like at the time with the 834 and 740, was the way it kind of felt like their was a gate that would cut the last bit of decay, but lately I keep finding myself in situations where it would solve a lot of problems with noise and a bunch of vocalist who are overly breathy. With a good Neve 10 series it can be magic, Ken is lucky because I had told a couple of really noises pikers about it who passed because it flys under the radar. I also told him about a Milab / Pearl 96 that someone must have grabbed just before he messaged me. I keep saying with the insane inflation we are seeing on the well known stuff there is a bunch of stuff flying under the radar. You have to be willing to take a chance.
