addendum -- the most interesting stuff is the "birds ear view." Totally observing the situation as it happens, in it, and afterwards in the audio files. "How things really work," based on sound only. Utterly fascinating and its the stuff of podcast and phone conversation, not forum posting. I can only just type about it here. The tone in peoples' voices, the timing of food, breaks, etc. Jokes, insults, etc. Who's confident, who's not. How they get loud, how they pull back, who catches what mistakes, what sounds good to one person, two people, etc, the psychology of it all, the personalities, and so on. Having edited a good amount of audio and video stuff for documentaries, I totally know what you’re talking about. For non-fiction work, there’s an entire universe in those moments. Frequently, whether or not those moments get captured and how they are placed into an edit will make or break a documentary. In fictional movies, some writers/directors excel at capturing and elevating these moments. I get a lot of juice from John Cassavetes, Elaine May, Jim Jarmusch, Robert Altman, PT Anderson, Steven Soderbergh, and the Coen Brothers’ films whose stories flourish in the moments where nothing is going on but everything is changing within and between the characters.

I ordered a Beyerdynamic M160 from Thomann. The price at the recent Euro-US exchange rate was too tempting to pass up. Added a Hofa 2D QRD diffuser to the order.
I also grabbed the SSL LMC+ plugin from Sweetwater at $20. It’s being sold at a lower price than the intro price ($30). I really enjoyed smashing drums with the original free plugin.

Been watching this Soundwide cabal develop between iZotope (the poor capitalization company), Native Instruments (the poor spelling company) and Plugin Alliance. The PA loyalty voucher spend thresholds went up but I decided to use my $50 June voucher on bx_masterdesk True Peak ($10), TOMO LISA ($16) and the Soundwide Intro Bundle ($25), which included the bx_subsynth, bx_stereomaker, bx_digital V3 and bx_console N AAX DSP plugins, as well as bx_delay 2500, Guitar Rig 6 LE, Massive, Vocal Synth 2, Trash 2, Nimbus, R4 and the Elements bundles. I was mainly after the PA AAX DSP stuff so hadn't even registered the NI and iZotope products, but when I got around to registering Vocal Synth 2 yesterday, iZotope sent me a voucher to pick two more PA plug-ins from a selection, so I went with the bx_panEQ and bx_refinement AAX DSP plugs. Then PA sent a welcome back e-mail to a second account I don't make purchases from for $25 off a $29 minimum spend, which turns out to work for anybody: WELCOME-BACK-25-OFF I grabbed ADPTR SCULPT ($6) with it, enjoy!

Don't hate the player, hate the game. Haha. Nice play.

Yeah, surprisingly good turn out this year! They split it between Studio A and B but didn't clearly mark off that it was in multiple rooms and I had a few people text me after they left saying "I didn't see you there!" only to realize more booths were in the other studio.

Seems they should have had a sign or something. Buster's good people. He bought my 3M in December. I know Neal Cappellino had a booth. Anyone else cool there?

Chuck Ainlay, Vance Powell, Ray Kennedy, Jamie Lidell, Russ Long...probably lots of other people I didn't see. I mean, I was there and I think I'm pretty cool.

There was part of me that wanted to drive down, just for the hang. That sounded fun.

Re-acquired would be more accurate but I got my (third) SSL Big Six back.. Don't start, it saved me about $10K, I finally figured out how to make it work in my setup (with a compromise or two), I love the sound of it and I've got more important things to buy. Anybody want an MOTU 16A?
Picked up an Acme Opticom, an acoustic bass and another Neumann U67 because I couldn't be bothered to wait for the Bock. Re-issue this time..

I got a Source Audio True Spring. It's a stereo reverb and a stereo pan/tremolo. Incredible! Kind of functions as a clean boost too. Took me months to "find" this before pulling the trigger. Flint? nope. Wampler whateverlidoo? Nope. and so on, on down the list. This one does all the things.

I'm currently awaiting delivery of an Audioscape Opto Comp. Maybe best piece of gear I own at any price. This has changed the way I mix and record. Had no idea how great a good opto could sound!

I took a chance on a damaged WesAudio ngBusComp and nursed it back to health. It sounds positively incredible. The dialable THD, Wet/Dry, Sidechain settings, and optional driveable Carnhills give this a TON of flavors in addition to the dual-mono, stereo, and m/s modes. Being able to control all of it with a plugin feels futuristic, and it was so simple to set up. I'm extremely impressed by the overall presentation. Only con: 3RU of space. Recommended!

One LED is still a little squirrely, but for the price, who cares?! Have you gotten to use Sculpt yet? I keep meaning to demo it.
