It’s freaking fantastic. My Heiserman is in the shop, so can’t do any vocals yet. Did some passes with the Daria mic and it was pretty awesome. Acoustics sound amazing. I wasn’t particularly impressed with the 500 series. But this one is completely different. Running on 32v, it’s just more headroom, more everything. It’s almost like direct wire. Thanks for the update! Assuming you've got the two-channel chassis and psu then? That setup looks balls. Kinda like the TwinFlicks I'm super drawn to authentic attempts like this in hardware land. Edit: would love to hear the follow-up with your Heiserman when you get there. Yeah I’ll probably do a thread.

I find that the black bristle brush you put shoe polish on your shoes works just as well for dusting cleaning gear. Also does a nice job on fretboards of guitars as well. Cheap to get from local supermarket.

I picked up an Eastman MDO305 octave mandolin. Yep, I'm one of those guys who has become a bit bored with typical guitar sounds. This finishes off my mandolin family of instruments: Mandolin, Mandola, Octave Mandolin, Irish Bouzouki, Mandocello. I suppose I could get a bass mandolin but then I'd have to find space to keep it. The MDO305 is not a great instrument and is the least expensive instrument in my mandolin family by a large margin. Still, it's something fun to mess with and write a few songs for it.

If anyone wants the PA SSL 9000J Console plugin for $25 use these two codes:
SSL-9000J-4999 2022-03-25QRL973IZ62X4F
expires tomorrow (the first code only)
I think it's a very good channel strip, kind of "natural" sounding, pleasant.

Do you use multiple (different kinds of) channel strips in your work? Yes indeed. I typically won't mix a bunch of them together on one track. But on different tracks (songs) I'll choose one (of many) to work with. I guess I don't stick to one thing. I've got all these great plugins and I sort of use whims, treat them like a grab bag, see what works. I vaguely treat them like a console in the sense that once chosen, I'll use the same one across various instruments the mix. I like that. That's the fun part.

I think someone else already mentioned it maybe, but just in case - the free upgrade to the Black Rooster VLA-2A MkII is surprisingly good. I always thought the original was OK, but it never totally wowed me. The MkII is a big step up. I really like the 3 different timings. Have you compared it to Tim P’s 2A?

Snare arrived and it’s a stunner! 7x14 Buddy Rich model. Single ply shell in amazing condition. It might be a keeper.

Incoming parts for a strat project. Found a great looking black strat body with white binding that came from a morello strat. Plan on putting a brushed gold pickguard and a roasted maple/rosewood neck from Warmoth on it. Pickup will probably be a set of Dimarzio areas I already have. It's routed for a Floyd so a little different but I like Floyds. Everybody needs at least one guitar with a Floyd.

Purchased a shiny new Paiste Signature Traditional 17" thin crash this week. I emphasize new because for the last decade or so I've only purchased older used Zildjians. But I needed something with a bit more shimmer and sunshine for some upcoming gigs and this fits the need perfectly. It feels great under stick - dark undertones with heavenly highs. And even though it's a thin it has great headroom and doesn't splat out when hit hard like so many thinner cymbals. No stray frequencies like the 2002 series either --a really well crafted cymbal.

I bought into the current Waves B2G2 promotion, CR8 sampler, CLA Epic, CLA MixDown and Brauer Motion for $10 each. Then I e-mailed Wes Audio to get on the new Dione Ukraine edition list, wasn't in the market for another bus comp but I'm buying that.

TurboTax Home & Business 2021. Used to use TurboTax Deluxe...(and Turbo Tax free) on my iMac. This year you have to be at least on OSX Catalina or above. I am still on Mojave 10.14.6 - so no go.
I used 'FreeTaxUSA' yesterday (one of the suggested free tax programs recommended by the IRS. It worked.
I will wait for the sound of ' IRS Agents' busting my door down... (Aside from the usual, "Your Warranty has expired" nonsense I get on the phone.)

Got a pair of Fat Heads. I’ve always liked them. Had one years ago, sold it, regretted it. Bought another single and have liked it, but I wanted a pair. I’ve recently started tracking live drums again and am using the pair for Blumlein FOK. I’ll probably sell the single I got before the pair. I hardly used it and don’t need more than the pair. I wanted the case and the bar and mounts and whatnot that come with the pair.
Or maybe I’ll keep all three. I just really dig these mics.
