Well, folks. I've been saving up for new mains for a good long while. I've been rocking the same monitors for 20 years, which is crazy to me, especially given that they are the lowly Event PS6. What can I say, I know what they sound like. But I didn't want to upgrade until I was able to afford a significant upgrade. I didn't want a sideways move, or a different mediocre perspective on a mix. I considered many, many different options over the past 5 yrs especially, but finances were uber tight for several years while our son was so sick (as many of you know). I was especially drawn to trying the Dynaudio LYD48 due to positive reports from several people, especially including ragan , whose latest album I am a big fan of (both sonically and artistically). But LYD48s have been thin on the ground for a few months, and I was beginning to get concerned Dynaudio might be dropping them or something. So I sprung for these: They just arrived yesterday afternoon. I haven't unboxed them yet. But I will very soon. Excited.

If you don't have the time, invite prene1 over. He loves to unbox stuff, and you'll have a memorable video to boot!

For me and my room they are terrific. The bass extension is incredible - to the point where I am having to deal with a room mode at 24 hz that I never even touched with my old monitors - which had 8” woofers but never even got near it. I think you will be quite happy.

Grabbed an RNC. Been years since I sold mine off. I don’t know if it’s nostalgia or just that they’re cool but I love these things. Particularly on drums, which is where this one will live (room mics).

I may have misunderstood. I thought these were called Hammond B-3's because you were supposed to own 3 of them. Oh well, we welcome Hammond B-3 #3 to the family. It is a 1964 living room beauty and comes with an all original 122 Leslie speaker complete with the original Jenson P15LL woofer and V21 upper driver.

Remind me to never ask for any well wishes from you. Sheesh. 😉

I'm going to get a least one more, maybe two. I've got color everywhere, I could actually use some straightforward compression. I really love mine and I love that it I don't need to find rack space for it.

Damn it. Bought a Looptrotter SA2RATE 2 off Reverb. Seller took my lowball offer. I’ll be pretty surprised if this makes the cut

Ordered a Cascade Blumlein bars to use with the VL37A's. Hope you have a great time with that. While Blumlein is not a normal choice I would make, Mark Fouxman loaned me his original prototype for the dual-capsule version of the VL37 (the VL373) a couple of years back. I don't know that you could get a better Blumlein recording with any other mics. The extended frequency response gets the details a lot of other ribbons miss, while the overall sound is still sweet and unforced.

I don't use it a whole lot but the bar looks pretty sturdy and will come in useful for other things too. I remember there was a Samar Blumlein mount in the pipeline but we might not see that anytime soon. The VL37A's are great mics though!

I picked up a XQP 531 De-Esser for $200. Great piece! Super smooth, "X" setting seems to be working best for me. Really transparent, I think it'll get a lot of use. I know a lot of people just edit out ess's in a DAW but I think for tracking or on a heavily compressed vocal this will be just as good, I'm sure I'll find other uses for it too. Otherwise just some stuff for fixing up a drum set...hardware and heads and shit. I have the 531a after I sold the originals. Frankly, I think the original is just as good if not better as the original has the X setting. It will be difficult to find a better de-esser!

An injury is messing with my sleep schedule, so I decided to fight back with Softube's Modular. No better way to keep a late-night brain occupied than controlled voltage --- and no quicker way to fall back asleep like reading synth manuals.

Soyuz 017 Tube incoming. Sweetwater had a nice deal on the V2.
Really looking forward to getting this in, my experience with the 013 FET's have been great.

I picked up a TC Electronic Clarity M Stereo analyzer. Very well conceived, and therefore versatile. I'm pleased. I love good metering. I'm impressed with its construction as well. Solid unit.

I just received a Beesneez Lulu FET from their end of the year sale. I’m looking forward to checking it out on acoustic guitar when I get the chance.

While the mid dome isn’t quite in the league of ATC since they shifted from the Dynaudio mid to the Chinese copy they have gotten much better.
