I need to get a non-music job to afford to buy shit that makes music that doesn't pay enough to buy stuff that makes music.

Awesome, I'd like a sound report on that C12 once you've heard it a bit. That mic with a Campbell CT12 is one I've been thinking about making for a while now. DIY C12 is now finished. This shot was taken just prior to wiring the capsule. Modified power supply is partially visible. Everything went together without a hitch contstruction wise however the vintage Mullard 12AT7 turned out to be excessively noisy in this application so I swapped it for a new JJ ECC81 which I had lying around and although the JJ tube is quieter it is also brighter than the Mullard. It's alive! I can't really give a sound report yet until I properly sort the tube out although in it's current form it is brighter in the top end than the Bock 251 and doesn't have the extreme low end extension of the Bock either which is not surprising when you see the size of the transformer fitted to the Bock. I am about to order a pair of NOS early 1950's Military GE 6072's and also a pair of Mullard ECC81's from Bowie as I also have a pair of Sound Skulptor MP566 500 Series tube micpre's that need some decent tubes. MODS: If you feel the need you can move this to the DIY section.

Just received a pair of Jensen JT-16-A microphone transformers and a pair of JT-MB-CA transformers. The JT-MB-CA's are a 1:1 transformer which I want to try on the input of a couple of SCA C84's (Millenia clones). The C84's are quite forensic and I'm experimenting with some transformers to see whether I can take a little bit of edge off them. I picked up some NOS Jensen JT-11-BMQ output tranformers about two weeks ago so I guess I'm going through a Jensen transformer phase ATM.

hell yeah! I think a DSL100H is my next amp to buy. I traded my Mark II for this. Never really jived with the Mark. It felt too tweaky for me. This sounds rock right outta the gate. Now I have Mesa, Marshall, Fender, and Orange covered. Pretty pumped.

251 Hugeness!!! Shannon is the man!!! I also want to give Randy a huge shout out for the hospitality and studio goodness! If you get a chance, you have to go check out Randy's place. He has a sweet studio with all the toys, and he knows how to use them!
Thanks Shannon and Randy, I will be coming down again hopefully sooner than later.

I know they have a lot of different styles, different players seem to like more or less than others. Your amp list reads something like a "whose who" of rock amps, and that is awesome.

The Mark II sounded boxy and felt like a prototype the way the controls all interacted with each other. Trying to set the amp from switching from a clean that I liked to a dirty that I liked was nearly impossible. Get one tone right, switch channel, sound screwy. Everything I have now is pretty straight ahead.

and for shits and giggles picked up a couple of cabinets this week. An Ampeg SVT can for $300 and a 90s Marshall 1960a for $500 Not the greatest deals ever, but still pretty darned good. And in addition to the second Samar VL37, the AEA R84, and the Seymour Duncan Convertible 100 amp head... I also went ahead and picked up 2 Marshall Mark 2 heads from 1976-1977.

Looking forward to getting this all hooked up today, Switchcraft 9625. Maybe it will keep me from bumping my head underneath my recording desk every time I want to route something differently.
