Mny expectation is that before the end of the month, I'll be ordering another Heiserman 47 body and have the M7 headbasket on it. How likely is that? Only 110% Well...if you need a pair, you need a pair - another body. Only....they aren't really a pair are they? Might as well just order another body, and two more mics so that you have 2 complete pairs. You know that's the only thing that will really make you happy... There's nobody saying that's not going to happen! ;-)

if you ever need to buy something, ask drbill, he will convince you it's the most urgent possibility. he's got me wanting to buy KM84! don't know if it's possible but I'm actually thinking about it. I think that's my end-game drum overhead sound. the mega drum shootout is very telling, great contenders

I think that's my end-game drum overhead sound. the mega drum shootout is very telling, great contenders haha! Well, that one is a no brainer. Did you listen to the OH mics on my drum mic shootout? The KM84's are represented along with a bunch of other mics. The big difference with them as compared to the 184's - which I know you like - is that the 184's are more suited for distance mic-ing, and the 84's just have a glorious, glowing top end roundness that can pull way into the room as you back them off. They are equally adept at mic-ing close, or more distant. I wouldn't call the 84's top end "soft", but it's not as hard sounding as the 184's. I'd use the 184's if I had them, but if I had both, I'd reach for the 84's 9 yes out of 10. I just don't do a lot of distance mic-ing. So..... Go buy them now. Yes, I said "them". Everyone needs at least a pair.... PS - I took my pair (when I only had a pair) over to a fellow GS drum enthusiasts studio. He had a really small, and difficult room. He'd been struggling with Beyer's, Oktava's and the like. Mostly SDC's. We put up the 84's and the fight was gone. He still thanks me when we run to each other.... So, consider yourself enabled.

Building a Bo Hansen DI right now, with an OEP transformer. This project has been on the back burner for years, glad to move it up to now. It's a good time to do these sorts of things. Just waiting for the paint to cure before I can assemble it.

Finally grabbed a second TNC ACMP-84. It’s definitely seen some use, but it works great. Looking forward to sending both units to Revive Audio for an upgrade; circuit fix, upgraded caps, and replacing the Chinese transformers with actual Carnhills. Not sure when it will happen, but hopefully soon. I was happy to see that the unit actually has all three transformers like a real 1084 when I opened it up the other day. I’m looking forward to hear what the premium caps and Carnhills do for this unit. Frequency response wise it’s pretty similar to one of the channels on my Dan Alexander without the mojo. Channel one of my Dan Alexander has more of an AMS Neve 1073 feel. Channel two has more of a BAE type response. Both have original Neve transformers. They just sound a little different.

Curious what you end up having to say about this. Maybe make some before clips now that you can replicate later? Running mixes through the line inputs, for example, would be easy to recreate. I have the TNC 73s and for me, the biggest weakness is that the EQ sounds a bit “meh” compared to the good stuff. A little dab works well though, it’s larger boosts that don’t seem to run with the big dogs.

I just had the lids off my ACMP84s and Stam 1073EQs this weekend doing the power transformer twist (it's a catchy little number and it goes like this!)
Plugin Alliance is my pusherman, was resisting the Maag EQ4 for $30 all day yesterday since I couldn't combine it with my loyalty coupon and I'm a spoiled little prince. Today it's $50 for any plugin and the loyalty coupon works, so thank you for the Lindell 80 Series daddy...
I'll have to shoot it out with the ACMPs and Stams next.

Both units have power transformer induced hum, but by unbolting the power transformer and twisting it (as much as the leads will allow) while listening, you can minimize the pick-up by the inductors. There's a video on here somewhere of inducing hum on the Heritage version by setting the Warm version on top of it. Oh, and I didn't resist anything, I got my Maag EQ fix too.

First let me say that @johnkenn tried really, really hard last week to help me get some nice monitors but the Covid blues got us and none of his contacts had anything I was interested in. He went above and beyond trying to help. If you ever need anything, don’t hesitate asking him to help. So as I began searching again, I read where some of you guys had tried and really liked Pelonis 42s and then when I read up on the 4288s, they seemed like they checked a lot of the boxes for me. I ordered and have on the way the Last new pair of those in existence. I am very excited about that. I also kinda brought this 1960 Hummingbird reissue home today too. I like shopping local and the guys at Tone Shop Guitars here in Dallas had this baby and I had played it before the lockdown. It was delivered curbside today. it wants to load sideways. Attachments:

Yeah if you're a left handed guitar player!
Beautiful guitar, that's one of my dream guitars. I "get by" with a disfigured Epiphone Hummingbird Pro, it's enough to hip me to the Hummingbird thing.
Played that damn thing for a while until I got my D28. The Hummingbird Pro's headstock was cracked off and I had to reglue it 3 or 4 times. Absolutely hideous repair. Fingers crossed, it will hold up this time. Funny thing is the rest of the guitar is in perfect shape. I bought it in destroyed shape for $100. Probably won't do that any more.

It's been a wild and frustrating ride getting this up and running, but restoration was completed last week (excellent job by Matt@Doctor Bass Inc in LA) and I just finished building the custom cabinet. Ampex AG440B 1/4" 2 track: Attachments:

Traded a set of drums for a matched pair of Samar VL37 microphones. Used a MF65 recently and loved it...amazing rejection when recording vocals and acoustic guitars...hoping these really do sound the same.
