Always wanted to have a dedicated metal guitar. I grabbed a guitar from the 2nd hand shop now, a Jackson JS30RR, really, really cheap (150€ mint condition, the original streets price was also really cheap), but it is a great beasty metal axe. Already had a lot of fun the last 2 days with it. A bit weak in the clean sounds but really cool on hi-gain sounds. I had another cheap Jackson before, but this thing is just a steal, there is not much below 1000 bucks that has such a good price/perfomance ratio. Kind of endless sustain due to strings-thru-body construction. It roars and squeaks in the best sense and just makes a lot of fun using for the really heavy stuff. Surely would prefer this one over the cheaper Gibsons or ESPs for the hardrock/metal stuff (and these would be already in a clearly higher price segment). Very happy i bought this one without hesitating.

Nice! My session tomorrow got cancelled, so a buddy and I are thinking about having a little drum shoot out in the studio. Right now I have several kits and it would be fun to hear them all under mic. I have a lot of 22/13/16 sets at the moment so I'm thinking it will be a 50's WFL, 60's Ludwig, 60's Slingerland, early 70's Rogers, early 70's Ludwig and a DW. Probably throw a 20" bass drum and that 24" in the equation to.

That would be supremely educational for me to hear those different kits in the same mic-up configuration.

Maybe I'll make some samples...if they sound good! We both need to do some "product demo" type things, and it's a good excuse to set them up and take some nice pictures since some will be for sale soon. Mostly educational. Shoot out some microphones and preamps. Nerdy stuff

Well, the evening wasn't the productive, because we soon realized that neither of us are really drummers. We did experiment with some Roswell Pro Audio microphones. Wasn't a big fan of the K47, it had a weird harsh resonance that didn't really sound great no matter where you placed it, but the Aurora was nice, natural representation of the kit. Definitely worth checking out if you need a neutral sounding utility microphone.
I'll do a drum shoot out for real in the near future, when I can borrow a real drummer.

Just received a pair of ezp1a pultecs and 2254a's from AML!! I've still gotta put them together, but I'm pretty excited to try these out. The kits look absurdly easy to assemble, with virtually no wiring, pre cut and bent leads, and mostly PCB mount parts. They shipped from the UK yesterday and the package arrived today.... kudos to FedEx for that. Although I did have to fill out a form from homeland security since the value was over $2,500....

I just bought a second Comp-3a, a second Great River Harrison 32c, a second CL 7720 with the ZenPro mods (thanks RicFoxx!), an Orban 622b and the cleanest vintage 441 I've ever seen.

Umm...drums of course. Sold 4 drum kits this weekend and I need some new projects. Snagged a 1963 Ludwig Club Date in silver sparkle. 22x14 bass and 9x13 tom with a matching Jazz Festival snare. I've got a 12x15 tom I'm going to add legs to to complete that kit. I'll probably sell it off and keep the Jazz Festival. Or sell them as a kit. I also picked up a transition badge tenor tom I'm going to rewrap in gold sparkle because I'm never going to find an actual gold sparkle one...been looking for year. Finally a champagne sparkle Slingerland Artist Model solid shell snare (this one I'm going to keep) and a "project" Ludwig 22x14 bass drum I'm mostly going to use for parts but might hold on to.
Oh yeah! I did get a Beyer M88

I've got the Pioneer silver sparkle snare drum from that Club Date kit. Pretty cool drum. My only wooden snare at the moment, and my oldest drum.

I talked to Harrison about the controller that was rumored to be. They said with all the controllers out there it wasn't worth their time and effort to make one. So they really implemented the X-Touch controller into their programs. I just ordered an X-Touch controller for my Harrison Mixbus and 32C programs. I got tired of mousing around.
Also installing the Behringer 16 channel Personal headphone system into both control rooms and live rooms. It'll give the musicians the ability to mix their own headphone mixes with volume, panning, E.Q. limiting and recall on all channels.

If the X-Touch is anywhere near as good as it is with Logic, you'll be happy. I was thinking about trying Mixbus - possibly as a virtual summing mixer, and if Mixbus is happy with the X-Touch, that might be added incentive. Please let us know how it works out. Maybe add it to the X-Touch review thread here.
