Here you go What's the best electrical provider? I live in Texas and we have deregulated electricity, private companies Compete to provide our electricity! Audio as we know it is a manipulation of Electricity , so who's power is the best !! Oh I once heard HiFi freaks talking about dirty and clean AC. They bought insane expensive filter boxes....

Before you say USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION!! I did and couldn't find any topics that answered my question that weren't at least a DAY old - also my question is TOTALLY different than the other threads I found - LOL I do EDM/Rap and am thinking of buying an SM7b and wanted to know if the GAP-73 would be a good match to power it? My situation is a bit unique because my mic cable is red and not black like most people I've seen (including the one at my buddies studio) If it matters I have a Behringer U-Control as a sound card and waves plugz - would it help to try different tubes? This guy wins the interwebs today.

But But I have ordered 4 sm7b's for my new mega hit record... If we don't have any best of threads how will I know what else to buy. Yep. Shure has found a new market: Hipsters and bearded lumbersexuals dying to look 'with it'. and the SM7b is the biggest phallic symbol there is for these newly bearded wannabes.

To be fair it was pretty cool to log on in the early 2000's and talk shop / trade info etc.. It became it's own enemy by the end sadly..
I only discovered this place a couple of months ago (i don't log on to the net much these days)..
Anyway, who want to start a digital vs analog thread ?

I'm sorry guys but contrary to GS lore, the sm7 sucks and the Avalon 737sp is quite good. And I'm being serious. This is.....IMO of coarse. As always, YMMV Edit,, Sm7 is pretty good on guitar cabs. Only use I've ever found for it other than scratch vocals that you pitch later. And this only because it's easy and quick to throw up.

My guess he fell a little short of the goal seeing how Garth Brooks only sold less than a paltry 200k trying to self publish his last record. The kid could sing but he sure had some personality issues.

I remember see that it did. The record sucked top to bottom and in every aspect. Sadly a few of my friends worked on it. I was really hoping for more from him.

He might have Dan. The last Iooked it was around 200. It's been a long time since I looked. I bought that record. Disappointing.

The reason it works on scratch vocals is because it has the pickup pattern and reach of a tennis ball directly in front of the moving coil element. And it sounds familiar - like an SM58.

It's a mic not a magic wand it works when it works, the problem isn't the mic it's that everybody thinks they are MJ!

The good thing about the SM7 is it will sit in a mix and that is great for guys novice AE's (like myself...haha) but when you solo it against a good vocal mic you get this look on your face like you just throw up a lil in your mouth.

I think the SM7 is good for loud or screamy bright singers, it can take it smoothly. I also really like the voiceover sound it gives. I think it's one of the best dynamic mics for vocals, but it turns out I don't really prefer dynamic mics for vocals next to my fancy tube mics.
I threw up in my mouth a little too and sold mine last year. It's very utilitartian, but for my personal purposes, it was not essential. If I was tracking bands every day I probably would have kept it around.

I have a re20 and like it for some of stuff the sm7 can do. I have used the sm7 a number of times at other studios. Usually for scratch vocals while tracking a band or maybe for a geek mic on a drum kit. I have never thought it was awesome enough to buy. But I know it has been used on so many great vocals. SOme of the Eric Church stuff I like was a SM7, my friend Mark Heimermann who has produced some of the biggest Christian albums ever, loves sm7's on a lot of pop female vocals. I know Eric Valentine use them on some vocals and of course the classic one everyone pulls out, Michael Jackson used one sometimes.
One record a while back I used a few different vocal mics on a singer. She was great. A few tracks I used a very very normal sm57, others I used my great MK47 and another I used a ribbon. No one ever noticed a difference. A great singer sounds great on any mic you put them on, it really is true. That was when I realized it kind of doesn't matter. Just record it well with whatever you use. If they are great, it will turn out great. I think that is why the sm7 is so famous. I am sure I could get a lot of killer vocals with it.
If anyone has one to sell sub 300 bucks hit me up.

I think I sold mine for about $250. It should be pretty easy to snag an SM7B under $300. Not sure about the SM7A. I would guess they made some small revisions, I bet google could answer the question.

The only early one that I know anyone covets is the SM5, bunch of radio guys swear by them, for $250 I would take a chance, if you don't like it sell it as the "Vintage SM7 "on GS for $500 , everybody there knows the old one is always worth more

I prefer the MD441 and on budget the M201, but i agree they are by far not as much of a phallus symbol. Too edgy or too small.
And while we are at GS attitude i instantly thought of a joke that might fit.
There is a saying that men who drive Porsche have small penises. But this is absolutely not true. Me, for example. I don't drive a Porsche!
