Just for fun I give GS sometimes a try. Two days ago someone attacked me because I said I love the 1073 special for Jazz and Blues Guitar. My example was SRV Strat-Stile playing. Within seconds I was the idiot because SRV was always(?) tracking on MCI consoles. That lead me to a G-search. Texas Flood was tracked on an MCI and mixed on a ... NEVE. If those people where as accurate about their arrangements, as they are about gear - the world would be full of great sound. I did learn one thing on GS. If the sound sucks its in 99,9% of the cases not the gear. I say, get in touch with the universe and write music you like.... its way more important. As much I love asking gear questions I will never forget who is the number one. If it sucks its my fault - something is wrong with arrangement. For me the hardest thing to do is to critic your own work. Sometimes I think everything I do is great, but I fast have to tell myself that I am not a genius writer. Yeah its good to have a place like this one. I can live with critic if its not going to insult someone. That most often happens on GS. I too think we have many members here which are beyond the 40 that makes a big difference. I think that dude is missing the point...the least amazing part of an SRV album is by far the engineering...

After awhile over at GS I had to preface everything I said with 'IMO'. People were getting super defensive (and offensive) regarding the most trivial matters such as gear and workflow at that it became intolerable. Or people became intolerant. I learned a lot there don't get me wrong.
But I definitely feel more 'at home' here. I think its for a few reasons; I'm a punk rocker anarchist at heart but appreciate the beauty of engineering marvels like Neve consoles and Lamborghinis. I've been around enough to know not to take myself too seriously and that my opinion isn't a proven fact (its hardly even considerable). Everyone here seems pretty mature (considering most of us have been involved in music for a bit) Everyone seems honest about their experiences (that's a biggie) I don't feel like we are all judging one another nor having some pissing contest (well not most of us anyway) I can say 'fuck' and I wont get punished.

Yes, he may missed that SRV was so passionate about playing guitar that he sounds good with any gear. I will never forget when I recognized, the first time, that he and the band could do a slight fall in tempo without watching each other. I had the chance to speak to Tommy S. about 10 years ago. He was super friendly. I was able to feel this guy still misses a friend - every day. After the short conversation I felt sorry for him. Last year came a few SRV interviews up on YT which I had not seen before. Unbelievable which aura SRV had, always smiling friendly very positive... happy about staying sober. From time to time I still pull out a SRV CD - and I smile.

How many times can one read a "Best 2-bus Compressor", "Best 500 Series Preamp", "Best EQ" or "Best...." anything thread? The only good use of that place is to bust myths or help some kid imo.

Obtuse is a prerequisite for Mod status at GS. I almost never look there, except to check in on the long in the tooth Apollo thread. Cowboycoalminer set an unprecedented non-judgemental helpful tone that seeded Realgear right from the start.
I've connected with more talented, gracious and helpful professionals here than any place I can think of.
It occurs to me, that when you're really good at something, you don't need to thump your chest about it, and there's very little of that going on here.

I have always found others chests far more interesting then my own, even if mine is probably the most shall we say unique?

But...alas...let's stop picking on poor GS here. I'm just glad to have a place that's more conducive to conversation.

I just want to thank John Kenn for being an all around stand up dude. There is no comparison to the free-for-all pissing contest and fudge factory that is gearslutz. RGO is so seriously talented that I actually feel self-conscious when I post here because the quality of the members is so high. The tone that has been set here is very honest and personable, and I appreciate any and all connections I have made. Who knew that the internet could be a decent place.

Here you go What's the best electrical provider?
I live in Texas and we have deregulated electricity, private companies Compete to provide our electricity! Audio as we know it is a manipulation of Electricity , so who's power is the best !!
