Doug: i too love the handwritten approach, the only problem is when you want to write on a black colured panel. I cannot find a white coloured sharpie.

Mmmm, yeah. Not sure the best answer there. I used gold or silver ink pens, though they can be unpredictable.

Now that just brings a smile to my face. Cyril Jones (one of the engineers who worked on the Olympic Helios) almost had me convinced to grab one of his not so cheap lustraphone replicas during my research into the helios. I just couldn't justify it. So I figured id do sowter like the remakes and I just love great rivers but in the end it was after David at Cinemag who after analyzing the 22113 circuit then gave me some advice that I chose the cinemags. That guy is really cool. I'm gonna try Sowter with the next one though.

A wider view of the console: Its an a*p*i* fader channel with 6 auxes and 4 groups ( switchable 8 to 8 groups provided that you ha 8 group master channels). master section is 2 stereo groups with stereo insert post summing but pre fader, one master bus with insert post summing but pre fader. it can be expanded to 16 channels. it has 6 aux sends. in the control room you have a master attenuator, fpm/afl non destructive solo, mono, dim, alt speaker, 2track in1, 2track in2, basic oscillator, talkback, 4 mono aux returns and 2 stereo aux returns. pretty basic but useful. i consider it a good console for tracking. Paolo Paging jsteigerThat's fantastic, man!

Is there a double tall 500 series module anywhere? First time I've ever seen one. Very clever.

Thank you guys! i am still working on the last touches but the console is almost finished. i am thinking about doing a kit of it for other diy'ers to build their own. the double tall 500 module is very useful because you can have both a mic input and a line input on two separate connections on the back so you can flip between mic and machine return during tracking or use the entire channel as a daw insert in an hybrid setup.

My Take, has the best of everything (at least for my wants and needs) Helios, Neve, Api, & Shadow Hills, Retro, (and quite a bit more not shown in this pic. This is one of two remote rigs I have now built. Each rig consist of 6 cases. One rig is almost always out somewhere on long term session rentals, and the other rig, when it's not rented and still here, I will occasionally use it as a summing / mixing setup when I have ongoing recording projects in the studio. This way I don't have to breakdown my studio's console while doing basics, I just mix thru the second rig and not have to repatch or touch anything on the console. Attachments:

Fwiw I had used nobtwiddlers pics (kind of my dream studio) which come up in google searches of 'helios' to get my front panel correct. That and many moons ago my band was gonna go to his studio to record our album because despite my self-confidence I wanted his expertise. He of course knew none of this. For a little while there we were based out of Saratoga Springs. I became a better engineer (had a good teacher) and my band moved to Burlington VT (opening a small studio) and even there his studio was highly respected and a go to for more than a few bands (friends of ours) So my hat goes off to you sir.

Pahstah (Pastor?) I don't mean this in any kind of offensive way, but am I hearing cross-talk between the channels or is that leakage between drums, bass and guitars? Just curious!

Pahstah (Pastor?) I don't mean this in any kind of offensive way, but am I hearing cross-talk between the channels or is that leakage between drums, bass and guitars? Just curious! Hi Ward, my name is Paolo, my surname is Stabellini, so pahstah is a mashup of the first letters, not so clever i know but you know when i find muself in front of such a challenge as choosing the nickname my brain got no clue whatsoever.... I know...my english is unreadable...sorry for that. anyway, i believe that the crosstalk you hear is the bleeding between the tracks. The song has been tracked live during a gearfest from Fab Dupont: but i must stress the fact that i' e conceived tris console with tracking in mind. I wanted something that allowed me to track with great pres plus faders to attenuate the signal before convertors, and make it so that players could hear themselves in realtime.

Thank you Rocinante, i'm well aware of the various threads in the Groupdiy site, i've read Ruff Records, igor's and maybe your thread too. I've collected various schematics at the end i decided to use this one: And i decided to use a that1646 as an output buffer
