Saw them in 99ish I think.
Saw Talk Show (STP without Scott) when they kicked him out for drug ploblems too. Talk Show sucked without Scott. Sad to see him gone.

I heard about this today. STP was part of the soundtrack to my youth. Sad to hear. Addiction is a nasty business.

When these guys broke out on the scene rock was having it's last great renaissance before the crash. So many great bands touring from Red Hot Chili Peppers to Porno For Pyros, Smashing Pumpkins, Tool, Ministry it was an amazing time in music. I remember partying with Scott in Orlando Florida after hours with a bunch of Hooters chicks. I'm glad I got off that bus years ago. God bless his soul.

love STP, seen them at least 3 times, seen members around town over the years(san diego based band), most recent in irvine with the red hot chilli peps, Scott was very creative, and tormented apparently, too bad, i've been routing for him to get it together for a long time, not surprised even at all that he went young, i'm actually surprised it took this long.
RIP Scott...

RIP Scott. Drug addiction is the bane of Rock and Roll. In some ways he was just another ordinary guy who loved his favorite college football team.

I've been on a total STP kick since i heard of Scott's passing, I've always been a big, big fan, man they were really great, they wrote a shit ton of really great tunes, and Scott really nailed the vox live, a seriously talented and entertaining front man, i can't believe no one could help stop him from doing what he did to himself, some of the vids from this past years performances are absolutely heartbreaking, he quite literally was much less than 1/2 the man he used to be in the end, he seemed so damn sad, totally fried, but still seemed a very kind soul, it's really sad he went out this way, he deserved better, it looks to me like he was an extreme alcoholic? possibly suffered a stroke? does anyone know what substance that lethargic, "rosacea like" look he has in this vid is from if it's not massive amounts of alcohol? Again, i'd like to say RIP Scott, thanx so much for some really, really great rock music.....

This is an important article to read regarding Scott Weiland's life: www.rollingstone.com/music/news/scott-weiland-s-family-dont-glorify-this-tragedy-20151207?page=2I think his ex-wife does an excellent job telling the actual reality of trying to have a life with someone as troubled as Scott. Great singer and talent no doubt. Great person, father and family man - nope, not at all. I love STP. Been following them since Core and couldn't understand the unfair comparisons to Pearl Jam (Eddie Vedder) when they arrived on the scene. But people have to realize that these guys' lives are not glorious at all. I'm personally sick and tired of hearing rock star overdose, death due to debaucherous, self-indulgent and self destructive behavior. It sucked when Layne Staley died but far from surprising. I guess I've grown kind of numb from this type of news. Obviously just my opinion..........RIP

Interesting read, everyone who was into STP knew how self destructive and f-d up Scott was, I don't think it serves anyone including his children, for his X junkie/wife to piss on the guys grave before the body's even cold with that statement, it's like no.... Ur kidding right? Eh... "thank you captain obvious", the article shows more of the narcissism, and bad decision making that existed in his world, instead of letting the people enjoy the music he created in peace, she seems to have struck out to demonize him, again, thanx captain obvious. Is this the woman who released a book slamming him to shreds? He responded to that book with one of his own called "not dead and not for sale", apparently it was no holds barred, I may check them both out, but not likely, I just like the music, and feel bad for a guy so tormented and confused, he was incapable of doing right by himself, how could anyone expect anything good to come to themselves form him? Yet they all latch on, Very sad.

Drug addiction is the bane of Rock and Roll. And sadly no one learns from others mistakes. I started watching the Netflix series "Narcos" about Pablo Escabar. It really hits home how huge and violent the cocaine trade was/is. It just made me sad for every kid who, before he/she takes that first snort of cocaine, doesn't think that behind that powder is so much murder and corruption, along with a substance that is incredibly addictive and life destroying.

Thats the strange thing about dope, when i was a kid, i smoked weed for a couple years straight, then i started to forget things, and finally said "F-this, i like having my faculties in order, i'm out!", i've partied pretty hard, vicodine or perc on occasion, and even snorted a bit of coke back in the day, i rarely drink at all, i can't even tell you the last time i had a beer....? i think with mexican food when wiz was here was the last time? Point is i don't have the addictive personality, it doesn't mean i couldn't get physically addicted to a nasty substance of course, but i think it's more to do with wiring in the head? I haven't givin this a TON of thought, but i'm thinking they should legalize all drugs, tax the shit out of it, put forth the "this will kill you" PSA campaign like they've done with cigarettes(working massively well), and with one fell swoop they'd wipe out crime, fund the stupid government, and balance all the budgets... ohh doodah day 8)

When people think about drugs, they mostly think about the harm to the users. But the murder rate in the supply chain is huge.

I think this is the end result of a lifetime of self-medicating.
Addictions for mentally unstable people often come from never having been diagnosed, or from having been diagnosed in life far too late after addictions form.
My grandfather was hooked on methadone, and then later heroin for nearly 40 years after being injured in WWII. My mother often said he was "normal" only when he was high. In the 1970's he was diagnosed as Manic Depressive (Now classified as Bi-Polar II.) Heroin destroyed his life, and his relationship with my mother. He died before I was born.
I've been meaning to get back to the thread I started here about mental illness and creatives. I spent a large part of this year adjusting to new meds after trying different things. But I know the dangers if you don't take the time to take responsibility and manage your condition.
I saw that Ziprasidone, a medication for Bi-Polar I Disorder (BPI people exhibit Histrionic behavior as well as severe mood swings) and/or Schizophrenia was found with all the other substances he was mixing when he died. What's sad is the man had tried to get help at various points, but it's obvious to me that his support circle was absentee at best, or enabling at worst. Mixing substances with meds like that can get a person killed easy.
He might have been troubled, and a terrible family man, but when people with those sorts of problems don't have anyone taking their condition seriously to support them, it's incredibly easy to falter, time and again.
I was a huge fan of Purple and Tiny Music...and I do think that at his peak the man was a genius with an incredible voice.

Yes, and when people think about drugs they conveniently forget alcohol and the pharmaceutical industry.

Unfortunately, great creativity, great uniqueness and real rockstar qualities do often correlate with affective psychiatric illnesses like bipolar disorder or adult ADD and often a self-medication with alcohol and drugs follows and speeds up self-destructive behavior. Cary already wrote about it. Also there is a pretty high risk of suicide. How many rock stars do you admire who died from drugs or suicide and had mental problems? Keith Moon, the inventor of destroyed hotel rooms, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain and so many others... I was a fan of STP in the 90s and still listen to the albums regularly. Also the live shows and Scott's stage presence were legendary. Too sad Scott died so early. R.I.P.

It's sad that people with these problems don't get help or refuse to help themselves. I tend to think along the lines of cary and martin in this thread. Thanks for posting that live video by the way that was great.
