It's sad that people with these problems don't get help or refuse to help themselves. I tend to think along the lines of cary and martin in this thread. Thanks for posting that live video by the way that was great. The problem might be, that it often feels completely natural to live like this. Up to the age of 25 i thought i would never reach the 30. And that was totally ok. 14 yrs. later i took antidepressiva the first time. To be fair - the help you can get from professional treatment and medication sometimes is not much better than the illness itself. Often you have to live with not so great compromises. It is a very personal decision what lifestyle you want to live, and nobody can walk in someone else's shoes... It is just sad that so many die so young. OTOH they often gave so much to the world that it's much more than most people can achieve in more than double the lifespan.

Fortunately there are also many examples of musicians with mental problems overcoming or dealing with them successfully, and having long and fruitful careers. I think you are right though that people get used to the lifestyle of self destruction and lose the ability to see a way out.
Also unfortunately, mental illness is grossly misunderstood by the general population and there are many harmful stereotypes and attitudes that people with no direct experience can bring to a situation that actually make things worse instead of better.

This one always sort of spoke to me. They have a knack for strange unforgettable earworms. the bassline is just perfection. "she was a happy girl the day that she left me."

"she was a happy girl the day that she left me." i used to play bass with a band back in the later 90's, we played a lot of STP songs, i always enjoyed learning them because the bass lines by Robert Deleo were always spectacularly fun and challenging, they really carry most of their songs imv how bout this one

OK, i say which one my favorite was, always. The rhythm is classic, bonzo-like. You may think it may be a bit tasteless to post this title, but i think Scott Weiland would have liked it.

coroner's report= coke, ecstasy, and alcohol all in his system, as well as his regular meds, he had arterial sclerosis and asthma to boot, he smoked like a chimney as well, man... he really had it in for himself His problems and super talent aside, I will say this for him, that after following his career for 23 years, i never saw him treat anyone without kindness in person or any film clips, including hounding paparazzi, though i did see him rage on certain fans that were being abusive to others, when i saw them in 2000 at the Del Mar fair in San Diego, he went nutz on one of the security guards for roughing up a fan in front of him, he stopped the band mid song and had the security guard removed from the venue before they'd continue, as close as i can remember it went like this....., apparently a security guard went too far in trying to tame a kid who was moshing or some shit? " HEY!...HEY!..., leave that kid alone! Hey you fucking asshole!.. hey asshole!(trying to get his attention, band stops playing), Hey asshole! there's no need to do that shit, he wasn't resisting you...,(turns to find another security guy, pointing at the punch throwing security guy) hey, get that mother fucking guy out of here!, this show stops until that tough guy asshole is out of here, there was no need to punch anyone, that kid wasn't even doing anything that i could see, you're a fucking asshole pal, get the fuck out of my show or i'll jump down there and kick YOUR fucking ass myself!",(crowd was pretty quieted down at that point, the security guy was escorted out, and then after a minute or so pause, Scott apologized to all of us for the interruption, and said, "this ain't no Limp biscuit mother fuckers, this is STP!" and boom! they slammed right back into the same tune, it was really something, pretty awkward moment, and a bit funny, I had a newfound respect for him after that. I was unable to find video on it, it was prior to everyone's cell phone vids... RIP SW
