looks like a cool kit cowboy! I have no experience with it, i'll read up on it tonight and let you know what my opinion is(like it or not lol), I do have to say, IME, a pcb build is easier than point to point. Here's another kit for you to mull over, i think its cheaper, has amazing build docs, and comes from AML, colin also makes the 1073 500 series 2 space. There is also a 500 series pultec that supposedly sounds amazing(not tube though), i want both of these! AML groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=50848.0analog allstars groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=46920.0T

The AML is aprox $950 after shipping and taxes/duties. I've been eyeing up one of these for a few weeks. Jeff Steiger has a pair.

I dunno. I'd want the tube kit to do it right, but 1600$ is quite steep..

At least when i ordered my EZ f760 compressor stuff, i didn't, it does show up when you cart your stuff, but it is removed when your card is run through. T

correct, there is no VAT tax in the US. that's for european union countries only. Be advised that colin ships with TNT. If you search the Better Business Bureau or Consumer Reports about TNT shipping company, you'll find lots of complaints regarding them sending bills months after the fact to the recipient claiming to demand payment of import duties, etc. You can ask him to ship with some other shipper, like USPS (Royal Post over in the UK) but it'll take longer. i'm in NYC, and when I ordered the 1073-500 kits, they showed up about 2 or 3 days later. TNT is fast, but they have some issues. there's a thread on GroupDIY about problems other members had with them...

I realize there's no VAT, but I was told by Colin to expect approx 10% in customs/import/export fees.

I've heard that Recpro before and it sounds amazing. Just kinna leary of the pcb pultecs. I mean is it really a putec? Seems the design is part of the sound.

Same as how PCB-based LA2As are still LA2A's compared to the point-to-point ones. the schematic is the same. in fact, the PCB is potentially better because the designer might design the component layout to avoid some magnetic interference that had a greater potential to occur in the point-to-point design (always use shielded cables when possible).

The PCB is no problem at all. These things sound very nice. I actually have a friend here in town with a recpro. At some point we will try and compare them. I have a feeling mine will sound more open and smooth in the highs and clear in the mids while also having more harmonics. I tweaked this pair from the last pair I built. The Drips and the recpro both use the same transformers or at least that is what I have been told.
I have ordered a number of things from Colin and I love his products. The ez1073's are great! But lately I have been getting hit with all sorts of fees after I purchase from him. TNT sucks huge and tried to ding me for 300 bucks about a month after one purchase for some import fees or something like that, on top of the legit import fees which you do get charged and I had already paid. Also, just yesterday my wife told me that we got charged a $25 "currency change fee" from my credit card from my last AML purchase. That seems like some other bogus fee that Wells Fargo and Visa are trying to stick us with. We are gonna call and complain about that one.
None of this has anything to do with Colin's great work or products just the crap we have to go through to use them. I would love it if he stopped using TNT. They are bad news.

I haven't had time to compare yet but I must say these things sound amazing! I am really loving them. They are best EQ's I have I think.

I do have a pair of the Love Childs. what did the build cost end up being on the drip pultec? that will totally depend on the component choices you make, from what i understand, the better Q you go, noticeably better the end result(top quality caps, nos tubes..blah blah) i would say cheapest is about $1k

I think it could be done really well for 1250 in parts. Well worth it!
