Yes, my pair have his corrugated ribbons, transformers, and resonators. Also have a stereo conversion of same mic with same updates except the ribbons are B&O piston type rather than corrugated. These are very good, but doubtful you'd pick them over a VL37. You can kinda use them on everything successfully. He'll surely fill you in on details.

Here's a live 3 track from a house party gig. 20' x 20' ish basement with 7' ish ceiling (6'+ barely at mic position). Maybe 20 people in chairs. No PA, no amps other than the upright bass. Suitcase with towel as kick drum. I had no recon on the location. Drums were a little loud on some tracks, vocals a little mumbly too, but it's what you get with an air mix. Samar MF65 Blumlein pair with DPA 4060 as center image Sytek MXP-4A preamp MOTU Monitor 8 capture at 88.2/24 Just enough 4060 to pull the middle together, given the close proximity. https%3A//soundcloud.com/possumjenkins/all-is-not-lost

Wow, a great song, sound and what seems a great time for all. Since I just won'the sacrifice a kidney I might just have to "settle" for the VL37 pair which has been said to be nearly as or equally blissfull, gorgeous and soul fulfilling as the pair you so artfully demonstrate. My only decision will be on which two channel shall I pair them up with. I do have a fairly modest budget, and the other consideration at this juncture would be that they also serve double duty as the anchor of my hopeful endeavor to both record small experimental ensembles in local venues as well as offer higher quality demo recording to singer/songwriters. Any hints, and thank you for sharing as you have helped me make my mind up about the Samars.

Then a 500 series box... BTW - welcome, iamasound!

Thanks everyone, thought you'd like to hear these mics in action. Doesn't sound like Soundcloud did too much damage, but I hear a little. DPA is taped dead center on the stereo mount between the MF65's, 1 inch out from combined line of the 2 ribbons.

Not that my mind hasn't wandered there, in my weaker moments...
I can confidently state that my mind has never wandered there...
Besides, I could never explain that one adequately to my wife.

I walked out of the house this morning to come to work, and there was a package on my doorstep..
My demo VL37 has arrived as well!
I'll be in the studio doing mixes tonight, but I'll find some time to start playing with it!
First impressions is that it's super heavy, weight wise. I wasn't expecting it to be so weighty. It's built very nicely for sure.

I'm currently using it in a Mid-Side configuration with the CV4 as the Fig8 mic. it sounds awesome! my room doesn't suck as much as I thought lol

Yeah - it'll be interesting. Just by memory, I think the VL37 might have a little more top than the 121

I'll be doing dirt guitars, clean guitars and drums in various configurations.
