Mic A = MK-U47 Mic B = CV4 And go figure, I liked B better. Really surprised.

No flies on that modded CV4. I actually sold my 47 back to Tony, bought a new CV3 and I'm gonna have him do his magic.
But back to the VL37. It's a fantastic compliment to the brighter condensers. The mids were VERY reminiscent of the MK-U47 - at a third of the price. Also, I was just thinking. I had the AEA N22 for a little while and THAT mic was nasally - and I don't really say that in a bad way, it was just mid forward, good for some things. This one is very smooth from 500 up. IMHO, it's a lot easier pulling lows and low mids out than trying to fix the mids at 800-5 kHz.

This VL37 does sound great and the price is attractive. Any chance of getting a clip of the VL37 doing that same tune as the 47 and CV4 I linked above?

I believe Mark has said MF65 and VL37 are essentially the same regarding sound.

I listened this morning again with different headphones, and I don't hear the nasal as much. Probably just a mixture of the vocal harmonics and the headphones I was using. I'd still love to shoot this out with the R121. Sounds pretty similar to it if I remember correctly. I could definitely use another good extended range ribbon for guitars. Hello Svart, Just contact me at info@samaraudiodesign.com We will send you a demo mic. Best, Mark

Just got mine today. Rushed upstairs to try it out and holy crap, it is absolutely fantastic. Rich, thick lower mids with a very smooth and present top end. Fantastic in the range that I have problems in (1-3khz). I'm pretty dang blown away. Here's a little clip of me sing through it into a VP28LW. Gonna try some acoustic later tonight. Really thrilled with this. I've got to pick a new song...it's the only one I can remember the lyrics to. Lol.
I really, really like the sound of this mic (great voice too... )
$799 is a great price too, I wonder how it fares against the MF65?
Hello, Both microphones share the same internal parts (which are interchangeable, including grill material, all the metal parts, and transformers) and have the same tuning. As such, they have the same sonics. Some nerds will surely catch their different grill length. While that certainly makes some difference, this difference is small enough to call it: “Their sound is virtually identical”. The VL37 and MF65 difference is mostly in accessories (integral Stainless Steel shock mount, optional Blumlein adapter, presentation box), as well as lifetime parts warranty for MF65. Best, M

Ordered mine today!! I can't hardly wait. Mark is awesome to deal with too. Note: The overwhelming success Mark is having is meaning there is a wait time now! Mark states 30-45 days but is trying his best to accommodate us all! I'm waiting (can't say it's a patient wait) and am eager to sink my teeth into it.

Attachment DeletedI'll contribute my own nerd-pic. I can't think of more than one or two overdubs I've done on a recent ep that didn't benefit from the 65. Many times I thought ok but yeah, let's try another nice mic on this…nope, back to ol' reliable.

I guess I think of nasal as 800-2ish kHz. I hear a lot of 400 ish. But I would call that muddy. yeah, i hear that 400 also, i think thats a hot spot in your room? john can you PLEASE record yourself singing in your living room for a change? just for one snippet.

I´m interested in the results of a R212 comparison, please go for it svart! I´m playing with the thought to sell my Royer and get a pair of these. Seems to be more versatile then the royer, I found a comparison on a classical guitar clip on gearslutz and the SAMAR sounded more natural and balanced to me (more guitar, less mic in the sonic imprint if it makes sense), but no warranty that the two clips were recorded with completely identical mic placement. I guess in the end I will have to try for myself. Would be nice to have a pair if it performs superb as drum overhead, for tracking guitar and as a vocal mic.

I bought one a couple months ago and can't say enough good things about it. Would be curious to hear your thoughts on the 37 vs. 121....

Here are two clips on Acoustic (D-28 Authentic) through VP28LW. They should be labeled. One is with SLL1731's and the other with SLL Red Dots. 80Hz HPF engaged. This thing mixed in with a SDC is gonna be fantastic.

Hahaha, i see the modus operandi in John's strange ways of buying and selling gear. I think it is like... 1. GAS 2. buying 3. ownership 4. selling 5. regret at this point there is a chance it restarts at 1. For the same piece of gear of course...

By the way, the Samar mic has a very stylish design. Looks like a cold, metallic mixture of SciFi vaccination gun from "Alien 7 - Ripleys Daughter" and a futuristic tattoo machine. In a classy, professional, traditional, conservative and christian way, of cause. . . . . Nah, just kidding. This f*#/%#\ awesome design from hell simply rocks. Like the sound of the mic in the clip. Looks like an excellent price/performance ratio to me.
