Man I was routing that everybody was going to keep their emotions in check. I always compared this place to talking gear with a bunch of AE's over beer well like a good bar we need a bouncer to keep to the piece. Better you than me. Everybody try doing this . If somebody pisses you off wait at least 24 hours before you post. Then try to do it intelligently if that fails be the bigger man walk away from the thread !

Really, i am actually surprised how polite and friendly all the actively writing board members are. From the beginning until now and ongoing. And this is exactly how it should be in every special interest forum, but unfortunately isn't for the most. Warnings are totally ok, doing this per PM is nice to keep things calm and not discuss everything openly. De-escalation. Keep up the good work John, you are as transparent with administration as it gets and as is reasonable.

As a rule, I only participate in forums where people are reasonably civil, otherwise I'm gone. We all have bad days, and gentle moderation is important, but ultimately forum participants are responsible for cultivating the culture of respect. Yeah, egos collide, and I don't doubt that many of us may say we don't give a crap what others think, but a little peer-pressure goes a long way.

The only time I've seen bickering is when it involved politics, banning politics from a pro audio forum is a must. I go to the Reaper forum a lot, the Lounge there is ridiculous so I stay completely away from it.

How can there possibly be heated arguments over gear? I hope everyone is beyond "my compressor is better than your compressor" Well it is, but you already know that.

Eveytime I go to certain stores, 80's music is playing and the sampled snare sounds like frickin' cannon fire.

That was my favorite part about Pensado's Bob Clearmountain interview by far. Dave aks him, "Do you have any regrets looking back on your career? What was your biggest mistake?"
Bob visibly looks dejected, groans and frowns, and says, "You know, probably that damn snare drum on Born In the USA."

I love RGO. I think mostly because of the people, the knowledge shared and the tone set by JK. I'm sad I cant get to Nashville in October to meet some of you guys in person. Someday!!

It wasn't on the board...it was a PM. Be honest. Is this about the nude selfie I sent you? Modding is no fun. I used to do it on GS, and I ended up quitting over the abusive PMs that would (very rarely, but still) pop up in my inbox. GS is a huge place and Jules' livelihood. I heard he now has an India based company doing some of the moderation in addition to the named mods on the board. Sometimes, that will lead to some odd infractions, but it is what it is. A place this size can make do with common sense Gustav

Very true. GS is so big it is a victim of its own success. I can't imagine having to deal with 200k members.

The problem with GS is all the EDM idiots, let's be honest.

Disagree, because I think a lot of the rock dudes and hip hop heads on there are super derp too. Either stuck in the 80's, or working in absolutes that don't exist. Add 500 Hz for more punch! Subtract more 2Khz for less Kanye and more Genesis. Ridiculous comments by people that genuinely think that ProTools 8 band can fix anything their performance or arrangement or even songwriting goofed up in the first place.

Hey, I don't disagree with that.
Everything is too production driven. Hence the low talent and performance standards legitimized, the elephant in the room.
People delude themselves because it pays, but appealing to producers and the lowest common denominator does not make good music and is nothing to be proud of.
There are easier ways of making money, anyway.
Also, half the guys in LA with crazy gear collections make car commercial music for a living. How stupid is that?

I know, I was just naming and shaming some more. Sometimes you'd really want to school some kid for saying "Just use the George Martin compressor setting and your Viola will sound great" or something equally bad. It's not only production driven, it's driven by people who are somehow too dumb to sit down with their VST's and actually fiddle and listen.
Sort of a new social low when people are too lazy to listen to their own crack of Waves' L2.
Agreed on that front. I mean I still want a bunch of nice comps - but it's more a practicality, I've enough to do when mixing without wondering about 20 different compressor inserts. That's not music, for me. At the same time I'd rather spend my time working with a guy with a Casio and a notebook of ideas than a band who really wants to get their music used in a TV show.

Let's not forget the Radial/ Jensen Conspiracy ! GS is just a place for people to scream and be proud that they heard themselves ! But the first time 3 or 4 wing nuts go all pscho on yer arse about something intelligent you've said (that they disagree with)... your taste for the place is all but gone. Man, there are some real KOOKS in that bunch. And some of them are moderators.

I still love it when I do a google search on something and an old thread Where guys like our own BoB Olhson , Silvertone , thrill and shipshape and others would provide valuable information. It's sad how many GS has run off over the years.
