Yippieeeeeee Finally it's being created and by non other than Onlymee, and to those that don't know who that is, let me just tell you that this guys designs are top notch, extremely true to the circuits more so than any I've ever heard. I built is U76 based of the RevA blues stripe 1176 and it was almost near identical in how it sounded to an original revA, even the harmonic distortions were the same. He's just started this, and it was a feeler, but is now putting this project together to start offering. I'm as giddy as a little freaking school girl. This will be amazing, and in a 500 style wow. I will rack mine however, I am only going with the PCB's, I don't have room for anymore 500 stuff. I don't know when he's going to start selling the stuff, but I pray to God it's soon, I'm in desperate need of a GML eq and David's recreation will sound spot on. Here's the GDIY thread. groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=59638.0

Thanks for the heads up about this. Lusting more and more and will probably go for a pair eventually. Suddenly there's a bunch of kits I wanna do. More FC526s, more NV73s, Serpent SA-3 (got most parts already), another LA-2.. So many kits, so little time :-)

He's got them out. I snatched quick, I don't see how he'll have these in stock very long. Better hurry!

I think it's about $500 a channel.... maybe less. The pots are what cost a bit, the kit and mouser BOM are really not all that much.

Haven't gotten the pots. There could be a groupbuy on Groupdiy. The above is just a quote based on the info listed on Thedonclassics site quoting pots at 14 pounds apiece.

yeah, count me in on the group buy for the pots Jerome, i owe some good folks money, and i'm trying to get that stuff paid off, but i WILL NOT let this one slide by! I did that with the Clx160 and missed out. jeromemason , are those pots conductive plastic or carbon? It seems this circuit should be treated to only the best of parts available....

I might be in for some pots if it'll save some dough.

It's the ones that David suggested.... I have no idea what they are honestly, but I would have to imagine they're conductive plastic being on a Sontech.
Soon as the guy let's me know something I'll post over there and here.

How difficult of a build do these seem to be?

Looks pretty straightforward... from the PDF:
Q. Who can build this? A. You! As long as you have patience and are thorough in your work, anyone can build this add-on. There's no wiring & is quite a quick build. There's lots of support and information and it is tried and tested.
edit, finished reading the whole manual --> It does require some very minor calibration to match input and output levels using a trim pot. Could be done easily with a daw signal generator. And you also have to assemble a ribbon cable, which can be fiddly, but not difficult. Overall, it looks like one of the easiest 500 series projects I've seen, especially since opamps are ICs.

How difficult of a build do these seem to be? I think you have to build a ribbon, cable.... but it looks pretty straightforward. On this one making sure that every solder joint is perfect and getting the flux off the board while you're building are going to be important IMO... Sontech is like the king of EQ's, I know on my build I will be taking my time and probably will even spot flux every component to get a good flow through. David is the best though, his builds are amazing and he is the best Iv'e ever seen at putting large scale gear into 500 series and it sounding exactly like the original. Even the folks that can't build this, you can make deals with me or others to build these for you because this is something you don't want to pass up. For the price of 1 original Sontech, you could have these strapped across every buss. Being in mono blocks you can use them on vocals, guitars, strings etc. I mean, this is one of the best 500 processors to date IMO. There was a massive need, he will sell a ton of them. Whoever puts the v76m in a 500 rack will do the same.

Why do tings like this hit right when you don't have any extra money?
I will just tell my self that this will be a normally stocked product.

Looks like he keeps his other project kits in stock so you could probably wait. But you might want to get in on a group buy of the pots and save them till your build.

Well I talked to him earlier and he said they were moving a lot faster than he anticipated, is about to be out of knobs so I know for a fact the kits will be out for 2 weeks probably by tomorrow. Like I said, I think this will be a big seller for him and these probably won't stay in stock as much as his other projects. That's a really good price for what you're getting.

I hope so! because the exchange rate SUCKS! i was calculating the euro vs the us dollar and came up with $380 for the pair, It's british pounds at $530... I'm out, can't afford it plain and simple, shouldn't have even thought about it with the amount of shit i have on my plate currently anyway. Bummer, hope Dave keeps em stocked.

I hear ya Tony.... but sometimes you just can't pass up certain pieces of gear... and this is one of them. Not only will this be on my buss permanently while I'm mixing, but also for tracking vocals, acoustics, cello's, fiddles/violins , anything that needs that sweet sound of a Sontech. The mixes I get over the wire... printing mono or stereo tracks through them.... This is the one EQ that kills them all IMO, I'd been waiting for someone to build this for a long time. The other I'm waiting for in 500, the V76M and I bet you sooner than later that will be out as well.

V-76 is a high voltage tube sound that won't happen in 500 series imo. I love 500 series stuff, but the format excels at fet design and most tube gear I have heard in 500 didn't stand up to scrutiny. The Doublewide is an exception, but it doesn't sound as beefy and rich as any high voltage designs. Sometimes, that can be a good thing though. Designing a V-76 would probably take up 3 slots and still wouldn't get there I am afraid.
