Lucky! Mine are set to be here Monday. I got the Mouser order. What sucks though is having to wait for those pots.... even if I storm through and get them built I'm at a stand still until those are built and shipped as well.

Because it has been asked, i remember the pots for a sontec should be conductive plastic, and were omeg pots as well at the time Igor sold his kits. I was smart enough to buy the kit with the pots. Hard to get. Didn't follow the new kit on GDIY though...sorry if this has been cleared already.

So how do you like them winetree and jeromemason? And how was the build? I've just got the Mouser stuff and then 2 kits from Dave coming probably tomorrow, so I'm looking forward to a glorious DIY weekend!

Ok, got my pair ready mid week but had very limited time for calibration and testing. Got some shrill scratchy noise from one of the units when HF was set to bell (instead of shelf). Had some more time today to double check calibration and got a few tips on that HF bell issue from David of Don Classics, but today the noise was gone. I really tried to get that noise back but failed, so I guess I'm good And as many others have said, these eqs are powerful! Wow, good stuff.. Noticed there are no pics of 'em in this thread so I think it's time! Attachments:

I've built all Don Classics and this is the nicest buildwise. Soundwise they seem equally great. Really grabby on narrow Q, and can be surgical. Wider Q is more transparent but still very effective. Overall quite clean. Just as the original. If you've ever thought about a Sontec or GML (I did) but think it's a bit too expensive for what you're doing, this is the sh*t!

I am glad you posted your thoughts on these. The don stuff is excellent. I (like many others) shouted in joy when I saw the thread of him making this available. Ive been seriously waiting years for someone to do this. I can't justify another eq right now but I will build these. In a 2u rack using dans rack-kit type extension. I've never used the real deal gml but eventually id like to get into mastering so as far as im concerned I'm investing into the future.

Looks like I'm selling my studer EQ's.

Looks like I'm selling my studer EQ's. Sorry! In fact I played with it for a while after posting that, and I'm even more impressed now! I've never owned a Sontec or a GML but I've produced/mixed a bunch of albums that have been mastered with these, as most mastering engineers use them here. And I totally get the same feeling when hearing what this does to a mix. I'm a HW guy so I couldn't tell if there's any plugs that do the job equally well, but I could bet that for a DIYer there isn't a better deal out there.. I'm privileged to have a Fairchild clone and Steve Jackson's lovely Pultecs on my 2 bus and thought I'd never change anything, but now I'm pretty sure I will. Today I'm so grateful I picked up DIY three years ago

Compared to CAPI kits I'd say a tiny bit harder than a VP28 2520 DOA excluded. Partly because no Chunger guide on this one.. The PCB is pretty crammed because there are quite a lot of components on the bottom side too. But the PCB is well organized which I think helps to keep from mixing stuff up. I think the best way to get a feel for the build is to check the manual, and also browse the build thread at GroupDIY. If you go for it, make sure not to miss the tips in the manual page 4/5. If you'd like a taste of it, I could eq an unmastered mix for you sometime next week. Just send a PM.

I looked over the manual and was a bit intimidated by the lack of build guide, but it seems like it would be manageable, just take a bit more time. I don't have the money now, so a taste would be a bad move, but thanks for the offer.

unit7 if you don't mind me asking do you recall how much the total cost was per unit? Seriously thinking about picking a pair of these up.

A pair was approx $925, converted from swedish Krona. Note that I didn't have to pay any duties because they are shipped within EU.
