There's no doubt Apple is cheaping out. I'm sure their server space is being paid for during their rollout. And their exec's who are responsible for the service are being paid. And their employee's who are making this happen technically are getting paid. But musicians should not? Stupid. Swift is on the right side IMO. Apple should just pony up and pay for their science experiment. It sets a bad precedent and I'm sure they know that as they contemplate how much they will pay out in the future. This is all calculated well in advance....

They missed the opportunity to absolutely lock up the industry forever. They could have had the moral high ground if they had come out and said, "we at Apple believe in the creators, so with Apple music, we are going to pay them a fair wage..." But they got greedy.

Btw - Apple has $178 Billion in CASH, yet they refuse to pay for the products they are selling by giving it away for free...who told them I was ok for giving my shit away for free?

If we go back to the thread that announced apple music service I asked the question where is the money for the artists? Now we know there isn't any!

Right so the artists don't get paid for their music if you cancel after three months.
Apple should let people use their computers and tablets for free for three months. Then let people people cancel and return them for no charge if they're not happy in that time.

I think every artist that has their music streamed/stolen in that "free" period(sickens me to type that), should all go down to their local courthouse exactly one day after the end of said "free" period, and file "piracy with intent to distribute" lawsuits against apple, that'd be pretty fun 8)

Since Hulu, Netflix, etc. don't make public how much they pay the producers of their programs during those free month-long trials, is this really any different than what those companies do? the difference is that apple's agreement with content creators was leaked, right? so now we all know that they're being cheap. but were Hulu, Netflix, etc also being cheap to the content creators?

I was looking a buying a few apple products over the next couple of months this change in direction from them has me re thinking this. It doesn’t take much for brand to go from cool to uncool if Taylor and a few friends shun apple it could trigger their decline.

Difference Apple has been a champion for artists, now it's joining in for the race to the bottom and its not like the couldn’t afford to pay.

I posted in the Songwriting forum about this. I liked Taylor Swift from the get go; now I admire and appreciate her as well. She hasn't forgotten who helped her, and she is using her success to try and help others.

Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon pay content creators owners up front, not per stream.

Yeah, but not immediately, they would have to respond, and that would cost them a lot of what they love the most..... MONEY!!

Not disagreeing, Bill, but why did you pick that year? I think John figured it out above ^^^^^^ LOL Eh, kind of pulled it out of my @$$, but it seems about right. Somewhere post 70's, I think post 80's, but maybe mid 80's, and definitely by the mid 90's, corporate America started putting CEO's and buyouts as more important than building products. It started small, and snowballed. Now....oy! Art, quality, pride of product, customer service, etc.. It's all down the tubes it seems. A new world order....
