Hm, sometimes i don't get you american guys. After i read something about 'scandal performance' i watched it, expecting to see a scandal, and thought: "Well, somebody wants to get out of the disney puppet suit to continue a career after puberty, so what? Making a bit of a sexy cat, showing tongue (come on, a bit of Gene Simmons is not THAT bad), a bit of skin plastic nudeness, :-) surprising moment, a bit too dry voice and her beeing a bit out of breath...ok singing...so what? I've seen much worse and more embarassing..." A funny thought, i had immediately, was, that if she had performed in Berlin or Amsterdam, noboby would have seen anything like a scandal at all. In fact i remember seeing Kate Perry with a prude typical american lollipop performance pretending to be sexy at the European Music Awards. Well, that was kind of vicarious embarassment - it didn't work for european audience at all... Yeah, perception is very subjective indeed.... A matter of the point of view... Best regards, Martin Typical European condescension... How many wars do we have to win to get that to stop?

Hilarious. What part of Europe are you from...the part whose ass we kicked or the part whose ass we saved? Just joking. Most of this thread begs the question that she had anything to do with this performance. I personally don't think the little puppet makes many of her own decisions. Her handlers decided that this would be good for their purposes....don't claim to know what those purposes are. Do you really believe she sits in meetings all day deciding on what type of performance she will deliver at the VMAs- let alone has anything at all to do with directing her wardrobe consultants & her choreographers? You pros in the industry should especially know better. This child can barley compose a sentence....Disney does that for her - with the exception of the occasionally disastrous tweet. Just another iteration of the same theme that is continuously repeated in videos and performances in the pop scene these days. Destruction of innocence. Sexualization of youth (teddy bears...really?) the dumbing down of the western world. I feel dumber even posting about this horrible nonsense. I love sexual themes but this was not sexy in the slightest to me. Hm, sometimes i don't get you american guys. While I find it hard to feel sorry for Miley, I do not find it hard to think that she is being exploited by the Idolmakers of the entertainment world. If so, then it is not a stretch to see her mostly young female fans as being exploited, too. What if the sexual nonsense is coldly calculated to walk the awkward line, to be "geeky", and to generate lots of talk on Web sites that would never be talking about her otherwise? The cynic in me thinks so. But that still leaves her fans, who are not protected by wealth and star-status, yet want to be like her. Exploitation takes many forms, the best being the type where the exploited fully buy-in to the BS.

"“Of course I’ll always be here for Miley. Can’t wait to see her when she gets home,” Billy Ray told ET’s Nancy O’Dell exclusively. “She’s still my little girl and I’m still her Dad regardless how this circus we call show business plays out. I love her unconditionally and that will never change.”
At least her dad knows it's a Circus. If someone asked me to be a puppet, I'd tell them to go screw themselves. I either perform the way I perform, or I don't perform. I won't care how may tweets I would have received if I decided to swing my schlong around in circles on national TV.

Her Dad talks a lot about her "handlers" and how they control her... to the point that he is excluded from her life. "If someone asked me to be a puppet, I'd tell them to go screw themselves." And, as a result, it is virtually guaranteed that you will not be a superstar in the mainstream music industry. I don't want to get on a rant. I am not a professional in the music business but I have friends who are. A higher level executive at a ginormous label named after a S. American country, an entertainment lawyer who works for a company accused of killing the radio star etc. The more I know about the inner workings of the machine the more I don't want any part of it. I love great music and what I respect most in an artist is talent as opposed to commercial success. Very big mainstream music is like politics....to make it to the top you have to play a dirty game. Ok...rant over.

sex sells, nothing new here. What I want to know is why does she have her tongue hanging out for 75% of the performance as well as pretty much every picture she's been in? Sex usually turns me on, this, however, turns me off to no end. She's just one more talentless muppet in this superficial industry that's all about packaging and no content. Reminds me of Roman decadence before that system collapsed, hmmmm.....

Typical European condescension... How many wars do we have to win to get that to stop? Ah, c'mon John, that's not condescension to say that some things work in different cultures - and others do not. In fact, europe is a great market for US music business. And differencies are very good for new creative ideas. Lots of real artists enjoy getting new ideas from other parts of the world. As for europe, well, you liked music like the Beatles, Scorpions, Kraftwerk and lots of other european musicians and we enjoyed all kind of Jazz, Blues (e.g. Muddy Waters up to Hendrix at a time they were not that popular in the US...) and lots of others pretty much, don't we? And well, alot of things, perfomance- or music-wise do NOT work in some parts of the world - others do. That's all. Enjoy the difference. Nothing to gain by a war, I guess? ;-) Best regards, Martin

I think what we are witnessing is called Devolution. Just never imagined it could really happen, let alone so fast?? In this country, total morons, void of any talent, are revered and pedestaled for taking first place in the Idiot contests?? wtf?? It's embarrassing! If you haven't seen the movie "idiocracy", you should, i used to think it was funny, now i think it serves as an oracle lol!

Reminds me of Roman decadence before that system collapsed, hmmmm..... I agree , as every year passes the more and more I can't stand americans ......... I can totally relate to that, however, there's a big bunch of decent Americans over there, great minds, great musicians, great people in general. It's just that retarded, stuck-in-the-50s, rightwinged and rightheaded part of the country that spoils it for everyone everywhere. Greed, power and money is all that counts, they just haven't realized that that time is over and things are changing for this planet. That also includes that people will become fed up with the current state of the music industry, with bad products such as Mrs. Cyrus. 90% of the professionals in the industry are in it for the money, not for the love of music. If they could make more money selling toilet paper, they would do that in a second. But don't worry, people will wake up and realize how unnatural all this is and go back to listening to real musicians playing real music.

For all the stuff we're hearing about pedophilia in the UK, it's all stayed pretty quiet in the US. There's always rumors, but the whole Hollywood thing looks like it might be a similar mess. A lot of very messed up stars coming into the public with bodily displays that just set alarm bells ringing in my head - and Miley isn't the first. The shaved head thing in particular, though is sometimes a fashion statement, can be a sign of identity crisis. She's not allowed be a child star anymore, not really, so exactly what is she supposed to be?

Scum, you are breaking my "don't be an asshole" rule I think it's a reference more to American culture and what seems like a constant media frenzy over the thrill of greed and ignorance. When I think "god damn you America" I think of unemployed Physicists having to sit at home and watch Honey Boo Boo and realize they'd make more money if they went on TV and injected mustard into their eyeballs then if they'd ever learned to read. Or Ron Paul. We say it in Europe all the time. You'd want to hear some of the things we call the English.

I think what scum may have been trying to say is, every year he cant believe how stupid society is becoming, although the USA seems to lead the way, i think the current brand of stupidity is an equal opportunity employer around the globe... i wish i could throw a "lol!" at the end of this, but it's really not funny, it's sad.

Yeah thats exactly what I meant . The sexual tones or whatever in Miley's performance didn't offend me , well shes disgusting to look at and young girls look up to her as a role model , so all you dads out there thats what your young daughters want to grow up and be like . What offends me is calling that music and entertainment . Thats more offensive to me . The weird thing is Americans like this crap of today . I think the movies , music , TV and video games , pretty much EVERYTHING entertainment wise sucks today . Its like the intelligence level of society goes down lower and lower as each year passes ..........

Just remember, she has more money than all of us combined from her days as Hannah Montana. Look back when Madonna did some crazy stuff that got her in the tabloids. What happened right afterwards? She linked up with some great songwriters and while she was fresh in everyone's mind from her shenanigans, she dropped an album that had a bunch of hits on it and made even MORE money. for miley, any attention is good, money-generating attention at this point. sad but true!
