...I just received the 3U Audio "Warbler MK V" FET condenser microphone...this is one of the three Warbler-series mics that employs an edge-terminated C12-style capsule and a 12:1 T14-style transformer...I believe that this may be the least-scooped of the C12 Warbler-variants, so this mic exhibits a very smooth and warm character... ...to better put in perspective the differing voicings of these mics, I sandwiched the MK V between sample of the original Warbler (K67 capsule) and the Warbler MK II (K47 capsule)...please keep in mind when you audition these VO files by me that I'm not an ideal candidate for voice-over, as I have a gap between my two top front-teeth which can produce an emphasized "whistle/essy" characteristic to my speech... ...so you will hear the Warbler (I) first, then the Warbler MK V, and lastly the Warbler MK II: app.box.com/s/hqxnu4kg8b32w4q57k1h5ndhd4o2ol0c*** and I must say, that's about the prettiest C12 capsule I've seen in a ready-built condenser microphone in this price category... Wow. That V is smoooooth. I have a strong feeling that's gonna be a good match for my bright voice. I will be ordering one the second the new run is available.

...when Guosheng told me he had 3 Warbler variants in the works that would employ his C12 capsule, it was I who made the (wrong) assumption that "MK III" would be more C12-ish, "MK V" would be like the 251, and the "MK IV" somewhere inbetween, but that's not the case... ...the V is his own design, clearly taken further than the 251 in terms of scooping out more in the 5-8K range, to give the mic a very warm, smooth ribbon-like voicing...it actually resembles my M49 clone a bit...dark, but with air (the rise in response coming from 9-12K)... ...so now, I'm even more curious how the "MK III" and "MK IV" variants will fit into the range...I've reached out to him to get his own desired intentions for those, rather than making any more assumptions... ...here's the response graph for the "MK V" in voice position #1 : Attachments:

...I just heard back from Guosheng in reference to the Warbler III & IV...as I suspected, only after auditioning the unique-sounding Warbler V, this was his response:
"IMO, [Warbler] III is similar to C12, warm and bright sounding, while IV is more similar ELAM 251, warm and airy sounding."

Maybe I misread, but are you saying every model will be $299? ...the entire Warbler-series are $299 (actually, if you contact Guosheng directly via email, he's been giving an introductory price of $270 w/Int'l shipping on them)... ...if I don't grab a III & IV, one of my production squad will I'm sure...I believe most variants should be back in stock in a couple of weeks...

IV will 251-ish. I don't quite know what that graph means though. Are the three colors graphs for 3 settings on the mic?
I'd love to see a 251 graph to compare.
This is what Guosheng wrote in an email response to me: Warbler I is airy sounding, Warbler II is smooth sounding (balance, IMO), Warbler III is warm and bright sounding, Warbler IV is warm and airy sounding and Warbler V is warm and smooth sounding.
I, II, III, IV and V: 67, 47, 12, 251 and smoother (or darker) 251
GZ74 is transformerless (same CM1, no vintage color) SD condenser mic with three interchangeable capsules. It is similar to put Neumann KM183/184/185 in one box.

Where do you find them for $299?? ...they were $299 on eBay, but they are currently out of stock (ETA for new inventory is mid June)...better to contact the designer, Guosheng Zhuang directly at 3uaudio@gmail.com for a better price (circumventing the eBay fees)...

kidvybeshow about hitting him up for a group buy? 8) cheers Wiz ...Wiz, the only problem with a group buy is the individual drop-shipping expense from wherever the group is based...the fact that he is willing to drop-ship individual mics for around $270 from China (to US for example) may actually be a better deal than one of us could put together with shipping materials and freight...you're in his back-yard bro...you may have the best advantage since 3U Audio is based in Sidney... ...only once you have one of these mics in your hand, will you fully appreciate the build-quality and value at these prices...these Warbler mics are very solid pieces of gear...not your daddy's Chinese LDC mic!

Yeah, good point. I sort of reached out once before, but kinda lost interest.. you know saving up for the US trip. Its hard though, to say no 8) I would love to demo them... I am in that place where I actually have the mics that work really well for me , and not many clients anymore, and apart from the interest value... I wouldnt use em... but, curiosity will no doubt get the better of me at some point. CHeers Wiz

I just inquired about the ETA for all the Warbler-series mics and I was informed that all the metal-works are now back in stock and the assembly of new inventory has commenced...so if anyone has any questions or would like to place an order, feel free to link Guosheng directly at 3uaudio@gmail.com for the best pricing... BTW, Warbler III (C12 inspired) and Warbler IV (251 inspired) are currently in production... Here is the response chart for the Warbler III: Attachments:

Guosheng emailed me the specs as well. Sounds like the Warblers will be ready soon! I'm really torn on whether to try a IV or V next.

try IV, why go darker than a 251? The 251 is already kind of a darker C12, no?

try IV, why go darker than a 251? The 251 is already kind of a darker C12, no? I gather that a 251 is less bright than a C12 but still a pretty airy mic. I love KidVybes clip of the Warbler V. I want to hear something done with a IV, but I'm not sure that will be feasible since so few people have these mics.
