I had intended to wait until I had some vocalists in the studio to record some more serious sample clips, but I decided to let some fellow AEs I respect listen to me talking into a couple of these mics, and they confirmed what I was hearing...so in the meantime, I make these impromptu talking samples available...keep in mind that these two mics can be had for only $99 and $299 on eBay...I believe what you will hear sounds quite unusual at those meager price-points (it should be noted that I have a problematic whistle sound on my "esses" due to a space between my two front teeth that creates all kinds of trouble on overly-bright LDC mics): app.box.com/s/udyh8dvcnkiz0891j39nlqyxlyxkhh2i

They sound cool
I like the Warbler 1
I have written to the guy to see how much for me here in Oz
seems like a bit of a no brainer...
they sound cool.. I could use both when I have "knuckleheads" in the studio and I put the vintage stuff away 8)
cheers

I like the way that Warbler I sounds. Does sound 87ish indeed.

Interesting update this morning from the designer of these mics...this "Warbler" series will be expanded to 5 models: Warbler I (U87 with K67 and 9.5:1 dual-bobbin tranny) Warbler II (FET 47 with K47 capsule and 6.5:1 dual-bobbin tranny) Warbler III, IV, & V (C12 variants from C12 thru 251 tonal range, with edge-terminated C12 capsules and 12:1 dual bobbin tranny) All mics offer 3 voicing settings, that essentially attenuate top-end frequencies...all feature Dale capacitors, WIMA resistors, Fairchild FETs and custom-wound transformers...capsules are produced in-house, no OEM... Clearly, this AE is looking to make waves in the low-end ranks of the mic marketplace...judging how good his $99 CM-1 with C12 capsule sounds, I'm anxious to hear his 3 upgraded Warbler variants... His C12 capsule looks like: Attachments:

I'm pretty set on grabbing a Warbler I. But a good 251 vibe mic might pull me in as well. Tube or FET on the III, IV and V?

The Warbler-series are all FET (with output-coupled transformers)...but he will also be offering tube models, but they are more costly of course... It seems the philosophy here is put all the cost into where it counts (the specific components and build quality that are responsible for the mic's "sound") rather than into more flashy bodies, shock-mounts, aluminum cases, etc...these mics ship in a simple branded foam-lined cardboard box with only a basic but sturdy hard-mount... I believe it's this 3-voicing "Warbler" series that will be the centerpiece for this brand's lineup...great quality at very affordable pricing... Attachments:

Kidvybes, thinkin about getting a pair of the cm1 fets for drum overheads. What would you recommend, the black or the teal? And how would you compare them to the stellar cm6?

Kidvybes, thinkin about getting a pair of the cm1 fets for drum overheads. What would you recommend, the black or the teal? And how would you compare them to the stellar cm6? ...I was having that same conversation with one of my associates, and he felt the Teal CM-1 would be better as drum overheads, as the Black CM-1 might be just a bit too mid-forward...the Teal are also great for acoustic guitars...I had a reggae artist in my studio last night, so I asked him to do a couple of quick vocal takes (singing and chatting) on both the Teal CM-1 (C12 capsule) and the Warbler I (K67 capsule)...here are the results: 3U Warbler I position V1 : app.box.com/s/96c5nq6by1e48wn081ewrpcwbt8jflee3U Teal CM-1: app.box.com/s/0k4be0uy65z1sbnnsezrd16gvf25p2hb...both the CM-1 FET mics are less bright than the Stellar CM-6, which has a more modern "pop-radio" sheen (like a Manley Ref C)...I think the Teal CM-1 is the real bargain, in that it brings a voicing that is unique at such a low price-point...right now out of the four 3U mics I've auditioned, the Warbler I and the Teal CM-1 are garnering the best responses from those who have heard them... ...I'm awaiting samples of the Warbler C12-capsule equipped variant...I think those are going to be outstanding as well...kinda like FET C12 and 251 variants at a bargain price of $299 each...the 3U C12 capsule is very nice quality, as is their K67 capsule...these mics sound more expensive than their price might imply...

Thanks for the detailed response! I have a cm6 and like it alot. Ill eventually pull the trigger on a big dollar tube mic, but for now the stellar has been getting me great results on many different vocalists.
Im currently using a pair of tbone sc140s for overheads and while they work well, id like something that gives me more drum "meat" and less hyped cymbals so i can use less close mics on mixdown. Sounds like the teal cm1's might be the ticket without breaking the bank.
No risk at all at this price, gonna order them and Ill report back when I get a chance to put them to work.
Thanks again kidvybes, nice find!

Thanks again kidvybes, nice find! ...yeah, I think you're gonna be surprised by the "bigness" of these mics...definitely should add size and reduce sizzle...geez, for around $200 a pair shipped, it's just stupid...2 Chinese C12 capsules alone cost more than that... BTW, if you miss out on that auction, another will pop up shortly thereafter...

...well, they are up as single mic "Buy It Now" for $149 each...I spoke to him and he told me with the eBay and Paypal fees plus the "free shipping" from China to the US, he's eating quite a bit of expense on his end...some people have done a bit better than the BIN price by reaching out to him via the website and circumventing the eBay process... www.ebay.com/itm/3U-Audio-TEAL-CM1-Condenser-Microphone-Acoustic-Guitar-Vocal-Instrument-Pro-Mic-/111474878902...or, you could try the "Make Offer" option on the single mic auction (just choose "2" units) and negotiate a better price as well...I know he's been responsive to those requests...right now it's most important for him to get these mics into people's hands to create some more buzz... ...once he ships a few dozen of these, the interest will likely accelerate...I'm curious if he's planning a K47 capsule version as well...seems a FET47 would be a natural...

Yes, you're correct, and there's a Warbler II with K47 as well...but I was implying a 47-version of the CM-1...he's got the K67 and the C12...an inexpensive CM-1 w/47 capsule would undoubtedly garner some attention...

Got it, makes sense now. I just have no patience for bidding on ebay.

I reached out to Guosheng Zhuang, the engineer behind these mics, to ask the best price for forum members...he requested that rather than bidding or purchasing on eBay that any interested members simply contact him via the website contact email and let him know what you are interested in and he will give the best price, including international shipping (which is quite expensive)...for example, a matched pair of the Teal CM-1 (with C12 capsules) would be $210 shipped ($150 each on eBay)...the contact email is: 3uaudio@gmail.com

That Teal color is off-putting. I don't know that I'd want that in my face while recording a vocal. Actually, upon a second look, the actual color of the mic (top pic) is much less "off-putting" than it looks in that eBay ad (bottom pic)...not bad at all... Attachments:
