I went with a Sterling Modular set up a while back and like the ergonomics. I has a lot of rack space below the desk and my wife likes the clean look which helps. Not sure if I would go this route today because their desks have gotten really pricey. Hi mikecthat looks really great cheers wiz |

Can't figure out how to make photos appear instead of link? I'm on the iPhone so I don't see an option to link photo url? Maybe with the http:// in front of the link? I always struggle too when I'm on the phone. |

Thanks Jesse, still the same result. I'll try again from my desktop in a little bit. wiz - don't know what you're showing me. Just comes up as 1 blank square on top of another on the phone lol. I'll just retry in awhile here...... |

This is a workstation I built. I drew up the plans, bought and cut the wood, assembled, and painted. I use this room for V/Os, music beds and mixing. There's a 2 -12" sub in the middle bottom. I must say Robert, I am mostly disappointed in your lack of monitors.  |

I must say Robert, I am mostly disappointed in your lack of monitors. I had this 8 button Switchcraft speaker switcher laying around and I thought I'd put it to use. The passive sub stays in and it just switches between the speakers. Each set give a different perspective of the mix. Nobody can believe how good the Auratones sound.

The first pic is the day we put it together and the others are as I filled it with gear. The pic with Jim Lauderdale ended up being a Sweetwater ad for Mojave Audio. The last pic is from the recent Capi party we hosted. I love days like these, when each of these pics were taken. Sadly, with the dimensions of the room, its hard to get a clear pic of the whole set up. I love the ergonomics of being able to reach everything and not leave mix position. Here are a few pics from my instagram feed, which has turned into pictures of kittens ever since my wife and I got two kittens (adorable) lol 2 out of 3 51x chassis. the 3rd chassis is in the closet waiting to be assembled, once I get a new desk to fit it in.  here's a view of the keyboards i use here.  and finally, the minions helping 'produce' some music lol  and my usual response when they do that:  |

If you plan to do something major a couple of things
1 plan for expansion, I have seen so many great layouts..
Till they bought new gear!
Use stands for monitors, more position options and you can still optimize if you upgrade. Sitting them on the desk is a major compromise
Make a cardboard mockup before you build, great in theory often means revision for best implementation.
Rear rack rails are great for organization !

I tried to make mine a duel purpose space. It doubles for a nice spot for family movie night. There's a rack of gear out of the picture to the right and the door in the picture opens into the tracking room.  Attachment Deleted |

If your going to build a custom desk go shop your local
Office furniture recycler! Just found the perfect set for the Status $35! And it should put it within 1/8 in of what I was going to build!
