I have a question for all of you experienced CAPI users. I am ready to order a pair of the new Missing Links. My question is - which op amp? I'll mostly be using these for mixing, although certainly for some tracking. My priorities are low noise, and more wide open (I figure color is already in abundance on these, and I have plenty of other color pieces).
There seems to be plenty of discussion on the various flavors of op amps for the pre's, but I don't see much discussion on the different flavors for the ML's.
Thanks~~

Jeff, When are you getting more transformers in?
Almost every time I look at your site to purchase, the transformers are out of stock.
I guess it keeps the GAS in check!

Well, I would say the Red Dots are more colored than the Gar1731's or the 2520's...Never tried sll Blue Dots. Maybe Scott can tell us a little about them...I also noticed that horvitz makes opamps...I believe in the 2520 flavor...Maybe he can add too.

Yeah, jsteiger - if one is on your mailing list, would one get updates when stuff is in stock?

They are entirely SMD and certainly have their own character, without straying too far from what you might be used to in this style. One user with much better ears than mine told me that he found them to be a compromise somewhere between the GAR2520 and Red Dot. But you know, opinions are like something something and that goes triple for op amps. I think they're pretty darn great I've made this offer before and it goes for all you guys, too. Buy them, try them. If you really aren't digging it, return them within a month for a full refund minus shipping. Recently reduced the pricing by a bit, too.

Yeah, jsteiger - if one is on your mailing list, would one get updates when stuff is in stock? No, I rarely send out an email blast to all customers. I keep a manual list for each pre when I am out of stock on something. If someone sends an email asking when a particular kit will be in stock, I add them to the manual notify list.

I made the Blue Dots to sound like modern API 2520's so people can replace faulty opamps in a console, or multi-channel unit and have them sound the same. Blue Dots were actually the first version of the opamp I made. It wasn't until someone sent me some Huntington and Melville NY labelled 2520's from the 70's that I discovered there was a sound difference between modern and vintage. I of course, had to dissect them and find out why. That's when the Red Dot was born. I'll have to check out Brian's opamp sometime.
