I'd love to do a console, but that takes some serious money and I just can't justify that with Blackbird 2 miles down the road. And the console is just the tip of the iceberg if you're going the hardware route.

About analog crosstalk in consoles... Actually, the classical channel order, with fixed drum section first and fix sections for the different instrument groups and vox takes this into account. In large channel count you often have free unused strips inbetween depending on the project demands, so annoying pollution is minimized. Crosstalk can be part of the analogue sound and a kind of glue...
PS: There are even digital console emulations trying to emulate crosstalk. Read about this but can't remember, where...not sure if it is emulated in Mixbus...

There is far more acoustic crosstalk across a drum kit from ajacent mics than the crosstalk specs of an average console.
Being said, the harmonic relationships and true acoustic image unadulterated by a console's added crosstalk is more accurate and natural with a low crosstalk console design. Do stereo acoustic recordings and the imaging becomes 3d like, sounds eminate from behind, to the sides and around the speaker position.
This is not very important for a pop/rock recording that is mixed essentially mono.
