Six months back, I had big trouble with the iLok system and authorizations. I thought they were a thing of the past. yesterday, I opened a Logic session, and got a Slate Digital icon saying I wasn't authorized. Usually, I click on the "authorize" button, and it says "please insert an iLok device". I take my iLok out, reinsert it, and then things load and everything is fine. Yesterday, it didn't work. I went to iLok, checked my authorizations, which seemed fine. I uninstalled and reinstalled new drivers, rebooted a half dozen times, and still, my computer isn't seeing the iLok.
When I booted up this morning, I did notice the iLok light flashing, so it seems to be operational. Here's the catch, if I click continue, and try to work without the iLok plugs, I can't hear anything, iLOk has somehow prevented me from using any Logic session, even if I don't use any iLok plugs. The audio is there, but my 2 bus, and output it shows nothing.
This happened once before. I had a demo of the Relab 480XL "Lite" version. I bought the plug. When the demo period expired, instead of just disabling the plug, it locked me out of my own sessions. It took around five days to resolve, and get me back to being able to use my own property, (projects) again.
Any help will be greatly appreciated, I have a session planned for Monday morning, and I HAVE to be able to get my sessions working, even if it means not using iLok plugs for a few days while I figure this out.
Thanks, MJB

God I hate iLok... I stopped using all of my programs that use it. Henge is knowledgeable with this, hopefully he'll chime in.

I don't think that's normal...no plug has ever disabled my entire system. If all else fails, I would just drag the .components onto my desktop until the workweek.

Good to hear from you guys, My Slate VBC demo is still good for another 2 months. I also have Slate FG-X, ReLab 480, and Sound Toys licenses. It's something todo with Slate, it almost always is. mobeach, I absolutely hate iLok too. If it just disabled a plug, even if you are authorized, that would be one thing, but to somehow prevent me from using my own property, ( Logic, projects,) violates state regulations as far as I know. It's as if they're locking me out of my own house. If there was at least a customer service helpline, that would be some relief. But waiting for emails support, when I need to work now is beyond frustrating. John, how would I go about removing all my iLok plugs from a session? Even if I closed out the plugs from the session itself, I think when there are iLok devices in my hard drive, iLok sees them, and freezes me out. Attachments:

Ilok / Slate "authorize" shot: I tried downloading the prompt with the Slate "Authorize" prompt, but the file is too big. Funny, the other ( less important) screen shot loaded..

Did you get a extended licence on slate? Think the problem might be there. This type of stuff can happen when a demo run out.

In the screen shot above, it might be hard to see, but my demo of Slate's VBC is good for another two months. When my ReLab 480XL demo ran out, it did the same thing, so I suspect your right. I forget exactly what I had to do about that, it's been a while, but I think it involved unistalling, which was a real PITA.
If Slate is open today, I'll call, but when this stuff happens on weekends, I'm often lefet to suffer until 12PM Monday EST, when they open customer help lines.

Obviously in that pic the demo period is still good. Unable to remove the slate plugs from the session?

Will try, it's also disabling my ReLab and Sound Toys plugs too. THAT'S what's crazy about iLok, what does one plug have to do with the others, it doesn't discriminate, just blocks all access.

I was given a 3 month demo as a courtesy by Slate mgmt. I complained to them that before I bought FG-X, I called customer service twice, and sent an email asking if the FG-X plug would become 64 bits soon. They replied yes, by the spring. I got mine early February. "Spring" is vague, and there's obviously some wiggle room, in case they run into difficulties, but now that Logic X won't use 32 bit plugs, I'm screwed. FG-X wont work, and I need it to. I asked them if they could switch my FG-X license to a VCB license, this way I'd have a usable plug, and could decide if I still want FG-X later, once they've gone 64 bit. They said they couldn't, but gave me a 3 month VCB demo as a courtesy.
If I'd bought the FG-X without asking first, I wouldn't feel that I'm owed a 64 bit upgrade, it would just be nice. But, since I inquired, as a prerequisite to my buying it, I felt they owed me. If I'd purchased a $200 toaster, knowing I'd need a special adapter in a few months, and the toaster manufacturer said they'd have one when the time comes, and then, they didn't, I either couldn't make toast, or I'd have to by another toaster. Some people at GS tried to give me grief about this, and the mods shut them down, they were so out of line.

Go to Mac HD/Library/Audio/Plugins/Components and drag the Slate VBC onto your desktop. Then restart and see if you still have the same problem.

Can't find it that way. I'm a little clumsy with the IT stuff. I'm looking for my audio units manager now, and will see if I can drag from there, if I find it..

Ashly Smith from Slate wrote this note, meanwhile I can't even locate my audio units manager when I search, it used to sit in my dock, I have no idea where it went..
Delete the offending plug-in(s) from your plug-in directory(ies) - Deactivate and reactivate license(s) in iLok License Manager - Delete the com.apple.audiounits cache file in ~/Library/Caches - Repair Permissions with Disk Utility - Re-install latest plug-in versions - Launch Logic first in 32-bit mode and confirm authorisation(s) in AU Manager
Edit; We work Mon-Fri, 9am to 5pm PST.
Also, for VBC, please run the uninstaller command script in Applications/Slate Digital/Virtual Buss Compressors

Then she wrote this; For further clarity...
These are the plug-in directories for OSX: -
Library/Audio/Plug-Ins...
/Components - for AudioUnits /VST - for VST
Library/Application Support/Digidesign/Plug-Ins - for RTAS
~ indicates your User directory path. And, if you can't see your User "Library" folder, please open Terminal from Applications/Utilities and type this command to permanently show it...
chflags nohidden ~/Library/
To change between 32-bit and 64-bit app launching, select the app in Applications, right click and choose Get Info, then check the option on/off and proceed to launch.

I followed that link John, it was cool, but that wasnt where my problem is, evidently. The iLok isn't being seen by any of my iLok components. So, even if I say... removed Slate's plug, one of my other plugs is stuck, looking for the iLok.

Ashley Smith from Slate has been trying to help. Slate's plugs may or may not be resonsible here, but he's doing his best to walk me through. He wrote this: Check out this vid for re-installing iLok License Manager [ Re-Installing Pace iLok License Manager - YouTube ], and after, run Sync/Repair on the key as detailed here - www.ilok.com/knownissues.hmtlI need to take a break, will be back in an hour, and then try to uninstall and reinstall this mess.. thanks for checking in with me guys,.

Go to Mac HD/Library/Audio/Plugins/Components and drag the Slate VBC onto your desktop. Then restart and see if you still have the same problem. Martin, click on Finder( the blue face in your dock), click on go (drop down), click on your boot drive, click on library, click on audio , click on plugins , click on components, drag vbc to your desktop Attachment Deleted

I'm kinda toasted, so I'm waiting for the energy to get me back to it, as I need to get this done. I may just drag my computer, (big PITA), to Apple tomorrow. I need it Monday. I opened a session, and when I removed all iLok plugs from the session, it worked. So, now I don't know if it's only VCB, or FG-X, or all iLok plugs, . suspect FG-X. Will keep you posted, I'm watching some mindless TV for a bit, gotta shut my brain down for a minute. Thanks guys, I'll be back..

Martin, I embedded bolded directions to respond to each of his 6 steps kcat Ashly Smith from Slate wrote this note, meanwhile I can't even locate my audio units manager when I search, it used to sit in my dock, I have no idea where it went.. 1) Delete the offending plug-in(s) from your plug-in directory(ies) instead of moving vbc to desktop delete it2) - Deactivate and reactivate license(s) in iLok License Manager do this in you ilok manager3) - Delete the com.apple.audiounits cache file in ~/Library/Caches go back to library file on boot drive open caches folder and delete the com.apple.audiounits file 4) - Repair Permissions with Disk Utility from finder open utilities, open disk utilities ,click on your boot drive and follow instructions for Repair Permissions ( click on it) screen shot)View Attachmentup till now you have deleted all elements of the vbc plug and its artifacts that hide in the computer)5) - Re-install latest plug-in versions this is a clean install of the plug6) - Launch Logic first in 32-bit mode and confirm authorisation(s) in AU Manager Save these steps as this is what you do for any plug that is compromised, that you want to clean install. Kcat Edit; We work Mon-Fri, 9am to 5pm PST. Also, for VBC, please run the uninstaller command script in Applications/Slate Digital/Virtual Buss Compressors Thanks, __________________ Ashley Smith Senior Tech Support Specialist and Co-operative Beta Manager Then she wrote this; For further clarity...
